Natalia "Natalie" Hobbs, age 96 passed away peacefully at her home on November 26, 2023. She was born in Los Angeles, Ca to Salome Regalado and Nicanora Flores. For several years, she worked as a nurse's aide at Dearborn Hospital and then later worked as an instructional teacher's aide at Millview Elementary School where she retired after 18 years. Natalie was gifted with remarkable talents including cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, playing the piano, and creating jewelry. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Nick and Paul and one sister, Virgie. Natalie is survived by her four children, Stanley (Nancy), Gloria (Steve), Marsha, and Lenard, two sisters, Emily and Carmen. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. A visitation for Natalie will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm at Jay Chapel, 1121 Roberts Ave. , Madera, CA. Joseph Sullivan

ObituaryJoseph Edward Sullivan, 86, of Fresno, California, died November 12th, 2023, in Madera, California while residing at Madera Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born on September 24th, 1937, to Leo Joseph Sullivan and Mary Isabelle Essex in Chicago, Illinois. Joseph was baptized on October 10th, 1937, by Rev. Edward S. Keough. He married Gwenneth Ann Teevens in Fresno, California on August 24th, 1979, service conducted by their close friends Father Paul Baxter and Father Redmond from Ottawa, Canada. Joe lived and attended grade school in Chicago, Illinois with his father, becoming a devoted Chicago Cub fan. Most summers he travelled by train to live with his mother in Arnprior, Ontario, Canada where he played baseball and met lifelong friends, one being Gwen Briscoe. After serving in the Air Force for 4 years, he resided in Fresno, California and in 1975 purchased his first and only home on North Nantucket Avenue working as a consumer electronics salesman. Four years later he married Gwen who moved from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to Fresno along with her three children: Perry, Danny, and Cheryl. Shortly after marrying, Joe and Gwen established an Irish merchandise import business, named Sullivan's Irish Imports. This resulted in many trips to Ireland for business, and pleasure. They retired Sullivan's Irish Imports after more than 30 years of service. Church was one of several things Joe was very consistent with in his life, attending Catholic mass each week. He also kept in contact with his Air Force buddies, golfing friends, and old acquaintances from Canada. Joe was often on the phone in the evening catching up on their affairs, current events, or memories of yesteryear. Only his poor hearing and failing health kept him from this pleasantry. Early each evening for years before retiring Joe would take their two dogs, Cready and Clancy, for a drive to Bullard High School where he walked them around the athletic track while watching baseball practice. Inevitably, he would chit-chat with others about sports, the weather, or a political issue of some kind. He was a natural salesman, and his 'gift of gab' was not lost on strangers he came in contact. A fond memory of Joe and his furry friends. Joe is survived by his wife (Gwen Sullivan) and three stepchildren (Perry, Danny, and Cheryl), some family, and friends from the Fresno area, Arnprior, and the Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, relatives, and some longtime friends. Joe will be cremated and interred at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery in Fresno, California close to Fresno Chaffee Zoo where Gwen worked for 20 years as a docent. Joe Gomes

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband and father, Joe C Gomes. Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Born on January 16th, 1936 to Raulino and Victoria Gomes, he was the oldest of four siblings. He was born on the small island of Flores in the Azores. His parents preceded him in death. At the age of 18, Joe joined the Portuguese Army where he made life-long friends. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Maria Esmenia Oliveria. In 1966, he moved with his wife and two small children to Madera, CA, to join his parents and siblings who had moved to Madera (insert X years earlier). Upon coming to Madera, he began working on the same dairy where his father and brothers worked and he had two more children. In 1976, Joe and his family moved in to town, in the home that Maria still lives in. At that time, Joe began working at the current day Mission Bell Winery southwest of town and worked there for 25 years. Upon his retirement, he helped Maria with her cleaning businesses. Outside of work, Joe loved to grow vegetables in his garden in their backyard. He loved to give anyone who stopped by a tour of the garden, which was usually full of corn, garlic, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, blackberries, oranges, and his favorite fava beans. He loved his family and greatly enjoyed when the kids and grandkids stopped by, usually so he could show them the garden. His doors were never locked, and everyone was always welcome in their home. Joe loved to talk to anyone and everyone who would listen, especially, anyone from his beloved homeland, old Portuguese army buddies, neighbors, childhood friends, and anyone that was even remotely Portuguese. He could go on for hours talking about old times, reliving old stories, the 49ers, his vegetables, and his family, usually driving Maria crazy in the process. Joe lived by his famous broken English quote, "Do the best you can, that's it. " Joe leaves behind his beautiful wife of 64 years, Maria Esmenia Gomes, four children Maria Hinkle and her husband Todd of Madera, Joe R Gomes of Madera, Bill Gomes of Madera, Joanne Gomes of Madera, four grandsons Haden Hinkle and his wife Katie of Fresno, Trent Hinkle and Scott Oueletta of Porter Ranch, Colton Gomes of Clovis, Brixton Gomes of Madera, three precious great-granddaughters Kennedy, Raegan, and Dakota Hinkle, his sister Mary Credit of Madera, and brothers John Gomes of Madera and Tony Gomes and his wife Mary of Fresno.Show more

Jesus Lopez

JESSE H LOPEZ Jesse Lopez Sr was born to Sara and Marcelino Lopez on April 30, 1929 in Sonora, AZ. He married Sally Ramirez in 1950 and they raised 6 children. Sadly, Jess passed away on November 15, 2023 after a brief illness. He was proceeded in death by his wife Sally, his son David Lopez and his grandson Ricardo Lopez, his siblings Alvaro Lopez, Marcelino Lopez, Mary Arriola and Sara Rodriguez and his parents. He is survived by his children Hope Lopez (Raul Alejo), Jesse Lopez Jr (Gloria), Virginia Salas (Candelario), Alvaro Lopez (Bertha) and Sally (Becka) Marmolejo (Louie). Jesse had 21 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 13 great, great grandchildren. Jesse's greatest joy was his family, friends, the outdoors, and his horses. Jesse was the founder of Madera Charros Unidos, a Mexican equestrian organization that instills the Mexican Charro tradition. He was also the first Hispanic elected to the Board of Supervisors of Madera County in 1982. Public viewing will be held from 12 noon to 1 p. m. The Rosary and Vigil will be held at Jay Chapel 1121 Roberts Ave at 1p. m. A joint Celebration of Life Reception will be held at the Madera Elks Lodge at 3 p. m. for Jesse and his son David who sadly passed 12 days prior.Show more

Alberto Gonzales

Alberto Gonzales was born April 8, 1954 and due to natural causes went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2023. He attended Madera schools and upon graduating from Madera High School in 1973 continued his education at Phoenix, Arizona. He then moved to Sunnyvale, CA in Silicon Valley making it his permanent home. He worked as a Technical Specialist then returned to college and earned his BA and Masters degree in Computer Engineering which led to jobs at Intel, Caliper Life Sciences and other major Tech Companies throughout the Silicone Valley. Demonstrating a strong work ethic and job dedication were always a priority to him. He was always passionate and meticulous about his work. One of his many professional skills was being an expert in hardware and software development. Albert's desire for traveling abroad took him to visit and experience many different countries. His appreciation for diversity and other cultures was evident in how he treated all people. He was kind, generous, intelligent and a great communicator. He loved a good debate and seemed to always have the last word. Most of all he loved his family and his mom's home cooked meals. He will be greatly missed and leaves an emptiness in our hearts. Albert is preceded in death by his father, Aniceto, "Cheto" and younger brother, Joey. He is survived by his mother, Margarita Gonzalez, three sisters, Rosa Perez , (Jose Luis), Maria Guadalupe Gonzales (Marty), and Ana, Gonzales, along with nephews, niece, great nephews and nieces. Jeremiah Carroll

Jeremiah Johannan Carroll was born in Clovis, California on July 7th, 2003 and went home to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 16th, 2023. Jeremiah, known by some as "Mr. Joy" is survived by: his loving parents-Jay and Yolanda Carroll, sister-Tasha Logan, brother-"bruh-bruh" Daniel Carroll, Grandma-Mary Bradley, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, nephew-Kai Logan, and many other family members, friends and loved ones. Jeremiah graduated from Hoover High School in 2021. After that, Jeremiah went to adult transitional school where he enjoyed working at CVS, Fresno Ag, and Round Table Pizza. He was on a bowling team and was actively involved in weekly Bible Study with adults with disabilities. Jeremiah enjoyed his weekend visits to Starbucks with Dad and loved playing basketball together. He was involved in Break the Barriers and most recently swam and danced. More than anything, Jeremiah Johannan Carroll loved Jesus.Show more

Socorro Valdez Owens was born on March 28, 1947 at 12:05 P. M in Madera, California to Arthur and Natalia Rios. Socorro Valdez Owens, our beloved sister, mother, Tia (Aunt), grandma, granny, NaNa, Suegra, and friend was called home to be with our ever lasting Savior on November 15, 2023 at 6:30 p. m. She was blessed to be born into a family of 9 Siblings, 6 Brothers, and 3 Sisters. Herself being child number 10. She loved being the baby of the family and had no problem letting her family know it. Socorro was known by many names, Sokie, daughter, sister, wife, mom, Tia (aunt), grandma, granny, NaNa, and Suegra. Sokie was blessed with her first child her daughter born December of 1963. Six months later June of 1964 she married her 1st husband Alvin Tesnear and together they were blessed with 3 sons Alvin Jr. , Duane, and Jesse. Her passion and love was her family. Her favorite season of the year was summer. She loved going camping, fishing, working, in her rose garden of many colors. Red being her very favorite color. She also loved working and growing her vegetables. Her hobbies were putting puzzles together, playing Solitaire on her tablet, and watching old black and white western movies starring John Wayne or Clint Eastwood. On August 9, 1988 she married her one true love Fred Owens and gained 2 additional sons, Douglas and Richard Owens. Sokie and Fred were married for 31 years, 5 months, 2 weeks and 1 day before her beloved husband passed away in January of 2019. Sokie is preceded in death by her youngest son Jesse Tesnear, bother her parents Arthur and Natalia Rios, 5 brothers Arthur Jr. , Billy, Alex, Joe, Manual, 3 sisters Lucy, Gloria, Aelmas (Chama). Sokie is survived by her brother Domingo, her daughter Nellie, 4 sons Alvin and Duane Tesnear, Douglas and Richard Owens. Son-in-Law Jerome Monselle, many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren Paul Raper II, Joseph Raper, Justin Raper, Dezary Smith, Tanna Jackson, Christopher Mcley, Lisa Will, Lisa Tesnear, Kellie Raper, Kaylee Esquivel, 15 great grand kids, Justin RaperII, Joseph Raper II, Emily Raper, Evan Raper, Paul Raper III, Alice Belcher, Abigail Rose, Aiden Durham, Krystlynn Durham, Adrienna Ojeda, Sophia Rosales, Evelyn Rosales, Vaida Mendoza, Alayna Mcley, Katie McClain, and many many friends. Shirley Ann Hollingsworth passed into her eternal home November 6, 2023 at the age of 87. She was born Shirley Ann Crawford on February 19, 1936 in Sheridan, Oregon to Ira Jackson and Vivian Lucille Crawford. She was the eldest of seven children. Shirley moved to Madera, California in 1957. She met the love of her life Earl Hollingsworth and they were married in 1958. There they created a beautiful life together. They were married until his passing in 1990. Shirley loved family life. Raising their 3 children Ronald, Wanda, and Donna in a peaceful country setting. She taught them all she knew about their farm animals and livestock. She enjoyed cooking, canning fruits, sewing, quilting, crocheting and reading, but family get togethers were her favorite. She is preceded in death by her husband Earl Hollingsworth, daughter Wanda Jasso, siblings, Jimmie, Bobbi, Jack, Billie Crawford, and Patricia Rystedt. Shirley is survived by her sister; Mary Stinson of Martinsville, Indiana, son; Ronald Hollingsworth of Fresno, CA, daughter; Donna Hollingsworth (George Jr) of Chowchilla, CA, and son-in-law Alfredo Jasso of Fresno, CA), Six grandchildren; Christina DelaCruz, Mark Martinez, Gabriel Jasso (Heather), Monica Stevens (Jeremy), George Sandoval III, and Donna Sandoval. Nine great grandchildren; Angel and Isaac Sanchez, Evelina, Alexis and Robert DelaCruz, Trystan and Elana Stevens, Maddox Sandoval Sabala and Serah Jasso. Shirley's family would like to thank the Chowchilla Skilled Nursing Facility staff and doctors for caring and loving our mother. Shirley was loved by all and will be forever missed.
