Audie Blaylock, Renowned Bluegrass Singer and Bandleader, Passes Away at 61. Audie Blaylock, the esteemed bluegrass singer and bandleader, unexpectedly passed away earlier this week at his Auburn, IN home. Born on August 18, 1962, in El Paso, Texas, Audie was 61 years old. Dedicating his life to bluegrass, Audie's musical journey began in Lansing, MI, where he played guitar and mandolin in regional bands during his school years. His breakthrough came in 1982 when he joined Jimmy Martin's band as the mandolin player, spending nine years as a Sunny Mountain Boy. He later played with Red Allen, Harley Allen, The Lynn Morris Band, Chris Jones & The Night Drivers, and Rhonda Vincent & The Rage. After his tenure with Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, Audie revived Redline, his solo project, which produced several popular recordings. A significant accomplishment was coordinating the Grammy-nominated album, "A Tribute to Jimmy Martin: The King of Bluegrass," where Audie, along with top musicians, honored his hero and mentor in 2004. Playing at the Opry with Rhonda Vincent and sharing the stage with Andy Griffith were cherished moments in Audie's career. His passion for bluegrass, demanding precision and enthusiasm, was matched by his deep affection for vintage American automobiles. Reed Jones, bassist with Redline and a close friend, expressed, "Audie was a very passionate person, and once you were his friend, you were in for good. Extremely loyal... Redline has had a core that stayed. Audie called it a brotherhood." Audie Blaylock's legacy in bluegrass will be remembered, and his impact on the genre resonates through the bonds formed with fellow musicians. His unexpected departure leaves a void in the hearts of friends, family, and fans. May he rest in peace.
