Robert Duane Tesdahl, age 78, of Ames, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at his home. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P. M. until 6:00 P. M. on Monday, October 16, 2023 at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 Douglas Ave. , Ames, where there will be a time of sharing at 6:00 P. M. Private family burial will take place in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Born on December 16, 1944 in Ames, Robert was the son of Zenith and Opal (Veach) Tesdahl. He grew up in Ames and graduated from Ames High School in 1963. Robert enlisted in the U. S. Army on July 15, 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1967. He began a lengthy career with Farner Bocken starting as a delivery driver. He then worked in the warehouse until his retirement. In his retirement, Robert worked part-time for Access Direct. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, golfing and going for walks. Robert liked to play cards with his family and listen to the oldies and he dominated the ping-pong table. Robert was also a fan of professional football and college basketball (GO CYCLONES!). Robert is survived by his daughter, Amy (Soren) Faaborg of Nevada; granddaughter, Ada and grandson, Otto, also of Nevada; brothers, Gary (Sharon) of Carlisle and Dale of Ames; nieces, Michelle Mann and Heather Born; and a nephew, Corey Tesdahl. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Robert Tesdahl. Carroll Leon Lovig, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines Iowa. Carroll was born to Ruben and Mae (Erickson) Lovig on October 22, 1939 in McCallsburg, IA. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 with visitation starting at 10 AM and the service at 11:00 AM at Stavanger Lutheran Free Church in Garden City, IA. Carroll graduated from Randall high school in 1957. While in high school he drove a school bus. After graduation from high school he did several jobs including working for Matson Builders, Story City Building Products, the DOT where he did soil testing and selling life insurance which led to his 30 year career of being an insurance adjuster. For several years, while being an insurance adjuster, he would leave Friday afternoon after working all week and drive all night hauling fuel to earn extra money to buy used cars for his daughters Michelle and Lori and any other extra things. He worked so hard and sacrificial while never complaining. After retiring, he worked driving a semi and also hauled corn for Greenfields. He loved both jobs and kept the trucks, like everything else he owned, immaculate and organized. On Oct 21, 1961 he married the love of his life Elaine (Annis) They shared 62 happy years together and had 2 daughters Lori (Lovig) Lake and Michelle (Lovig) Braatz and 6 grandkids, and 13 great grandchildren. He throughly enjoyed his time he had with them and they loved their time with him and will miss him so much. He enjoyed wood working and making beautiful and unique furniture for his family. He also loved camping and fishing. They took their daughters camping when they were kids and the grandkids when they were little. They went all over the United States and made some great memories. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents Rueben Lovig and Mae (Erickson) Lovig; his daughter Michelle (Lovig) Braatz, his grandson Zachary Braatz and his mother and father in law Clifford Annis and Pearl (Peggy Goodwin) Annis. Carroll is survived by his wife Elaine, his daughter Lori (Randy) Lake of Brighton, CO, Granddaughter Abbey Connelly (Luke) of Denver, CO, Andrew Lake (Courtnie) of Fort Lupton, CO, Austin Lake (Carlie) of Skiatook, OK, Aaron Lake (Morgan), and Annalee Bauer (Tom) of Colorado Springs, CO. He also has 13 great grandchildren; Graci, Nevaeh, Irelynn, Oakley, Daysie, Eleanor, Capri, George, Dahlia, Ottilie, Clara, Bella, and Grant. Glenda (Karpan) Barbour-DeCamp, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26 at her home in Slater, Iowa surrounded by her family. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service at the Slater Baptist Church, 601 Story Street, Slater on Friday, December 1 at 10:30 A. M. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Glenda Lee Karpan was born on August 17, 1936 to John and Sarah (Laws) Karpan. She grew up in Melcher-Dallas, IA with her siblings John, Matt, Kristy and Bobby. Glenda was joined in marriage to her first husband Jack D Barbour on September 1, 1956. Jack and Glenda had 4 sons, Michael, Jerry, Jack and Patrick. They lived in Melcher IA and Spanish Fort AL until moving to Slater in 1973. Glenda returned to work after her sons were in school. She worked for Hawkeye Insurance in Des Moines as an insurance underwriter until she retired in 1999 after her husband Jack passed away. Glenda was joined in marriage to Donald DeCamp on September 5, 2007. She and Don enjoyed traveling around the US in a motor home for a few years before settling in Redfield IA. When Don passed away in 2021, she returned to her home in Slater. Glenda lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; cooking, traveling, fishing and mushroom hunting, and spending time with her family. She was also an artist; working with charcoal and ceramics. Glenda was a devoted mother and grandmother and loving sister and friend. She could always be counted on for unconditional love and support. Glenda is preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, and brother Matt. She is survived by her 4 sons: Michael (Patty) Barbour of Madrid, Jerry Barbour of Slater, Jack Barbour of Slater, and Patrick Barbour of Madrid; her sister Kristy (Karpan) (Ralph) Lyons of Kirksville MO; brother John (Nancy) Karpan of Tucson, AZ; and Bobby (Kim) Karpan of Dallas, IA. She will be greatly missed by her 5 grandchildren: David (Alyssa) Barbour, Stephanie Quillen, Krystina (Andy) Long, Ciara Barbour, and Courtney Barbour, and 7 great- grandchildren (Tessa, Maddison, Katelyn, Carter, Colten, Chloe and Abraham). Jesse A. Romp, one of the last great Randall Rams, passed away on November 14, 2023 at the age of 89 after a stroke. Jesse was born near Jewell and raised in Randall. He graduated from Randall Consolidated School in 1952 and married Charlotte Tokle in Grinell in 1957. He was a life long resident of southern Hamilton County where he farmed and raised cattle with Charlotte for more that 55 years. They raised their two sons near Ellsworth. Jess enjoyed life - usually at a good farm sale, cattle auction, game of cards, fishing, sharing his opinions, or enjoying coffee at the elevator and a whiskey among friends. Some may say he was a bit ornery and could be counted on to liven up any event. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Charlotte Romp, his sons, Bill Romp (Jackie) of Des Moines, IA and Keith Romp of Pleasant Hill, IA and three grandchildren, Jack Romp of Atlanta, GA, Jane Romp of Boston, MA, and Adelaide of Windsor Heights. He is also survived by his younger sister, Linda Baker (Norman dec. ), as well as dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Francis (Johnson) Romp, two older brothers and their spouses, Phillip and Mary Romp and Roger and Delores Romp, one sister, as well his brother and sister-in-law Ray and Sandy Tokle. A private burial service at the time of interment will take place at Homewood Cemetery near Ellsworth. Bruce "Goosie" Stanley Nesbit, 76, passed away peacefully at home on November 14, 2023, surrounded by his family. Bruce was born June 28, 1947 in Waterloo, IA, the second of five children born to Charles and Janet Nesbit. He was raised in Waterloo and Cedar Falls until 1959, when the family moved to the Des Moines Area. Bruce graduated from Valley High School in 1965, and from Drake University in 1970. Bruce met the love of his life, Ingrid Lewis, in the fall of 1993, and since that time they have been inseparable. Bruce and Ingrid were married on October 15, 1994 in Jewell, IA. Bruce enjoyed his successful career in the fast-food industry where he spent his life trying to help people, retiring from Subway in 2017. Bruce just loved people in general and would always be there to lend a helping hand for those in need. Bruce's favorite pastime was golfing. He enjoyed taking his grandsons out on the golf course with him at times and teaching them how to play. He always made sure that they each had their own set of golf clubs and plenty of golf balls. But even more important to Bruce was attending each of his grandchildren's' sporting and school events. Bruce also enjoyed cooking for family and friends. But most of all, his number #1 priority and concern was always Ingrid, his 2 daughters, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He always had so much love to spread around. Bruce is survived by his wife Ingrid; his daughter Regina (Michael) Jenkins, and their children Abbigail and Jackson; his daughter Jennifer Thompson-Medina, and her children Cody (wife Morgan) (children Jeremy (JJ) & Mia) Thompson; Devon (children Josiah, Delilah & Athena) Thompson; Drake Thompson and Madeleine Medina. Bruce is also survived by his siblings, sister Kathleen (Richard) Bienapfl; brother Mark Nesbit; and brother David (Linda) Nesbit; and his loving cats Charlie and Tabbi. Other surviving family members include many in-law relatives, cousins, nieces and nephews. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and in-law parents, Ingrid and Samuel Lewis; his brother Ronald Nesbit; sister-in-law Denise Schnitker, and son-in-law Jeremy Thompson. The Rev. Kenneth Eugene Davis, age 95, of Ellijay, Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2023. Kenneth was born on April 5, 1928, in Jewell, Iowa, son of the late Floyd Davis and Gladys (Bissey) Davis. He graduated from Jewell High School, class of 1945. Kenneth served in the Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952 prior to continuing his education at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He earned a bachelor's degree in religion from Drake in 1955. It was there that Ken met the love of his life, Doris (LeGrant) Davis whom he married on June 3, 1955 at the University Christian Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Ken went on to receive his Master of Divinity from Yale University in 1958 and became an ordained pastor of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Ken's first position was pastor at the University Christian Church in Champaign, Illinois, followed by pastor positions at the First Christian Church in Leon, Iowa and later Hampton, Iowa. He was known by his parishioners as a kind and dedicated pastor who worked tirelessly to provide care, guidance, and comfort to his congregation. In 1977, Ken felt called to a different form of ministry, that of nursing home administration. He worked in this capacity from 1978-1996, working in a nursing home in Nora Springs, Iowa. Ken had a gift in connecting with the elderly, using his sense of humor, his joyful disposition, and his loving attitude for all the patients he served. Ken lived such a full life. He loved to be engaged and involved in his community and was the mayor of Nora Springs for several years. Ken loved music and singing. He was a member of the community band and chorus, theater, and sang in his church choir for many years. He mentored youth and would always lend a helping hand to friends or neighbors who needed a handyman or just a listening ear. He and Doris also lived in Austin, Minnesota in a retirement community for 18 years. In 2018, Ken moved to Georgia to be near family. Ken loved spending time with his family and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity to his loved ones. He loved being together to share a meal, play games, share stories, sing, and would always bring a smile to our face with his joyful nature. He enjoyed meticulously tending to his beautiful rose bushes which produced gorgeous flowers. He loved to do crossword puzzles, play cribbage, and tinker in his shop in his spare time. Ken will be greatly missed by so many that were touched by his unconditional love and kindness, his joyfulness, and his smile. Ken was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Doris Davis, and his brother Frederick (Phyllis) Davis. He is survived by their two daughters, Janelle (Alan) Condra of Ellijay and Lori Davis (Arthur Rovner) of South Burlington, Vermont; grandchildren Alissa Condra (Dani Hepperlin), Seth (Stacy) Condra, Jared Soule, and Leah Soule; great grandchildren Davis Condra and Remi Hepperlin; niece Jerra (Ed) Wilkinson and nephew Fred B. JoAnn Elizabeth (Ullestad) Boothe, age 60, leaped into the arms of Jesus on October 25, 2023. Jo was born August 2, 1963 to Marjorie (Lund) and Vernon Ullestad in Story City, Iowa. She graduated from Roland-Story High School in 1981, then headed to Southern California seeking a new adventure. She worked as an Assistant Manager at LeatherBound Ltd. in Torrance before returning to the Midwest nearly a year later. She then attended the University of Northern Iowa. After one year, she transferred to Waldorf University where she received her Associate of Arts degree. Jo spent several years working in retail prior to joining the staff at McFarland Clinic in Ames. There, she faithfully served for 23 years, most recently as Support Services Supervisor for Imaging Services. She married Jerry Boothe in Maui on April 30, 1991 and they made their home in Des Moines. They later moved to Story City and after Jerry passed away in 2016, Jo moved to Ames. As a result of a car accident, Jo quietly endured chronic pain for 17 years. Although her pain kept her from many of her favorite activities and visiting family and friends as often as she would like, she was not one to complain. In addition, when a second (different) bout with cancer returned 30 years after the first, she continued to battle it quietly with courage and grace. Jo had an unshakeable faith. She loved her Lord and family fiercely. She was a friend to many and her kind and genuine spirit made everyone around her feel special. She adored the ocean, bright vivid colors, artwork, classic movies, the Kansas City Chiefs, finding underpriced collectibles, spending time with family and friends, and laughing until it hurt. Left to cherish Jo's memory are sisters Pat (Carter) Holman of Des Moines, Pam (Craig) Amenson of Polk City, Rita (Mark) Gilbertson of Ames; sister-in-law Sue Ullestad of Boone; brothers-in-law Doug Boothe of Norwalk and Mike Boothe of Overland Park, KS; beloved nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Dr. David Wall, Jr. - or simply "Dave" to those who knew him best - left this world on October 19th, 2023, at the age of 82, surrounded by his loving family at the M. G. M. C Israel Family Hospice House. Born in Buffalo, New York, on December 16th, 1940, Dave was a man of many titles and accomplishments. Dave's journey through life was one of dedication and boundless compassion. He was a proud graduate of Ames High School, Iowa State University, and the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Dave's passion for medicine led him to complete his OBGYN residency at UCLA. He then followed in the footsteps of his father, the illustrious David Wall Sr. , practicing at McFarland Clinic until his well-deserved retirement. Known by many as "Doc or Junior," he was not only a beloved OBGYN but also a remarkable father, grandpa, husband, brother, uncle, and friend. Dave's legacy is intertwined with the lives of over 5,000 babies he delivered, and families he helped create through in vitro fertilization. He was a lifelong learner, an enthusiast of fishing, reading, crosswords, skiing, and golfing. Dave's adventurous spirit took him across lakes and oceans, in fast cars, and even into the skies as a pilot. He was a devoted father to three incredible daughters: Jenny Wall (Koren), Jill Wall Alexander (Jacob), and Cristina Wall Simmons (Mike). His six grandchildren lovingly referred to him as "Papa" - Wylder Wall; Ben, Ike, and Nick Alexander; Roman, and Quinn Simmons - all of whom he cherished. Dave's absence will be felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Cecilia, with whom he shared a lifetime of globe-trotting adventures and companionship. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Dallas Wall Rust and Mary Wall Harlan, and his best friend, Dr. Alan Munson. Jeffrey Lynn Schwartz, 61, passed away to be with the Lord on October 16, 2023. He was born April 7, 1962, to Walter and Kathryn Schwartz. Jeff was an incredibly kind, humble and loving husband, son, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Kim; son, Nick (Kenzie); daughter, Jessica; grandchildren, Henry and Carmen; and his mother, Kathryn. Jeff was born in Oelwein, Iowa, and spent most of his childhood farming with his parents on a farm outside of Westgate, Iowa. Growing up he enjoyed working on the farm, showing horses and cattle, and playing football. Jeff found great success in showing livestock, once holding a record for Grand Champion Steer six years in a row at the Fayette County Fair. Upon his graduation from High School, he attended Iowa State University and received a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science. From there he went on to work for Dekalb, Monsanto, Dow, and the USDA. His work contributed to innovative new hybrids of corn and beans that help feed the world, something that he was incredibly proud of. He married the love of his life, Kim, on November 7, 1992, in Spencer Iowa. His love of his family drove him to work hard to support and care for them. He was always quick to jump in and lend a hand for a move, house project, sports, and even spontaneous road tripsHis faith was something that was so important to him, even though he would describe himself as a late bloomer or a work in progress. He expressed his thankfulness to his family and wife for encouraging him in his faith walk and he also cherished his church family at Ascension Lutheran where he made great strides to know the Lord more and develop his faith. Faith carried him through his Leukemia diagnosis where he made sure to find something to be thankful for every day. Despite his illness Jeff continued to be a rock for his friends and family by giving them hope and peace knowing that Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior. He truly knew he was going to be with the Lord after his passing. Jeff's thoughtfulness, hard-working mindset, and love will be remembered and carried on by his friends and family. His life and faith were an example to all, his wife wanted share this about Jeff:"Throughout our journey Jeff would often get tears in his eyes and when I would ask, "What's wrong?" He'd reply, "I'm just so thankful". We had so much to be thankful for - calls, texts, pies, food, visits, signs in our yard, flowers in Jeff's work hard hat. It all meant so much. Janet L. (Sydnes) Thompson died peacefully on September 11, 2023, and entered into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with her loving family surrounding her. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P. M. until 4:00 P. M. on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 1517 Northwestern Ave. , Ames, Iowa. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A. M. on Monday, September 18, 2023 at the church. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Janet was born on September 1, 1934, in rural Story County, Iowa to Tilmer and Carrie (Wee) Sydnes. She was the fourth of seven children. She was baptized and confirmed at Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley, Iowa. She graduated from Huxley High School in 1952. She began working as a secretary at Morrill Hall on the Iowa State College campus for a year and then worked four years at Doane Agricultural Services. Her greatest joy was being a stay -at -home mom. Janet married the love of her life, Gary Thompson, on August 14, 1955. They first met during the summer of 1951 at the Skateland roller rink in Ames, Iowa. She went home that night and told her mom "I'm going to marry that guy. "At an early age Janet placed her faith and belief in Jesus Christ. She was always grateful to her parents and grandparents for her Christian upbringing. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church for the last 55 years. During which she co-chaired the Scandinavian Coffee, leading several of the workshops making lefse, kringla and spritz cookies. She always made extra kringla at home for the Scandinavian Coffee. She headed up the church Clothing Room and was a member of the Women's Circle Bible study. She was also a member of P. E. O. Chapter LN, Theta Chi and the MGMC Auxillary. She loved bowling and great fun was had with the AG&CC women's bowling league. She played in multiple bridge groups, enjoyed going out to lunch with friends, shopping with her daughter, listening to all kinds of music, family vacations, decorating for the holidays, cheering and supporting her grandchildren at their activities, having tea parties for her granddaughters when they were young and rooting for the Iowa State Cyclones. She loved reading books but she really loved reading magazines which could always be found in stacks next to her favorite chair. And always nearby was her green covered The Living Bible, where she underlined and made notes next to her favorite scripture verses. Evident of what was on her mind and in her heart. Janet was a friend to many. She was gracious and elegant and had a kind, caring and servant heart. She saw the best in everyone and loved them unconditionally. Her husband, children and grandchildren brought her the most joy. Her faith in Jesus Christ and the love for her family were the most important things to her. Left to cherish Janet's memory is her husband, Gary of 68 years; children: Kim (Tom) Wierson, Rick (Renee) Thompson and Scott (Mary) Thompson; seven grandchildren: Matthew Wierson, Chelsea (Aaron) Trowbridge, Tyler Wierson, Rachel Thompson, Erica Thompson, Brandon (Bianca) Thompson and Emily (Austin) Edwards; two great-granddaughters, Ava and Noa Trowbridge; sister, Sandra (Garry) Wirtz; brother-in-law, DeLon Thompson; and sister-in-law Jackie Christenson; and many nieces and nephews who were all very special to her.
