Jay was born in Elkhart, Indiana on January 30, 1969 to Joseph and Judith (Mittendorf) Gajdostik. Jay graduated from Cardinal Stritch High School in 1987. He was a recipient of the Evans Scholarship and attended Miami University for 2 years before deciding to join the professional painters union. He started his painting career with Charles F. Mann Company. He then went to work for OCP, where he was a foreman. During this time he made many close friends and was highly respected for his work. In 2009 he started his own painting company which kept him busy until he became ill. Jay's number one priority was always his family, and being a dad was his most cherished role (until Evelyn Rose was born). For his family, he was their knight in shining armor. His sense of humor was one of his greatest assets. His quick wit filled every conversation with laughter. He will be missed tremendously by his family and many, many friends. A longtime friend described Jay as the "the most loving and entertaining man I have ever met. Ruth was a proud 1956 graduate of Waite High School. She began working at Louisville Title after high school, eventually becoming the Supervisor of the Title Examiners, retiring in the late 1990's. She was known for her kindness and thorough work. Ruth married her best friend, Richard Utter in 1959 and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary just prior to his death. Ruth and her late husband Richard spent their time with family and friends; volunteering, traveling and impromptu quality time with their eleven grandchildren. Ruth was a seriously competitive spirit; she never allowed anyone to win, but each win had to be earned. This included games with her grandchildren. Ruth had a heart for service and that included the service of time with those around her, and formal service with organizations. She was a volunteer at the St. Charles Cancer Center for more than 15 years, cooked meals for Helping Hands of Toledo and was a constant presence at her church. Ruth rarely sat down and never stayed still. Even if she was watching a television program, she would use commercials to get as much done as possible. Regardless of the task or activity, Ruth was a tireless worker and put forth her very best in everything she did. She encouraged those around her to live to the same aspirations and instilled in her family that we "get" to do things and saw everything as a gift. She applied her tenacious work ethic throughout her entire life and will be greatly missed. Ruth was an avid supporter of THE Ohio State University and never wavered to attend TBDBITL Skull Sessions until the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Richard, her parents, brothers William and Richard, sisters Cecile, Jean, Rena and Marilyn. Ruth is survived by and blessed with three children, Jane (James), Jeff (Joann) and John (Lyndsey). They always thought of their children's spouses as their own. Ruth was delighted by her eleven treasured grandchildren, Jacqueline, Samantha (Erik), Elizabeth (Daniel), Joshua (Melissa), Joseph, Megan (Willie), Ethan (Danielle), Kayla, JJ, Jaxon and Jett, and her three great grandchildren Jase, Noah, Adelynn with a fourth great grandchild due in January 2024.
