It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Alfred Walter Schwartzel on November 27, 2023, surrounded by wife Wendy and children Mark and Lesley. He was father-in law to Tamsyn and Dale, Papa to Cody (Mikayla), Timothy, Samantha, Taylor, Keelin, Owen and Great-Papa to Hudson. Charles was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on September 3, 1948. He was the 2nd of 4 boys and son to Arthur and Yvonne Schwartzel. Charles met Wendy at a disco club, and it wasn't long before they married in 1973. Charles was a devoted husband who loved his wife dearly and always showed his love by making her morning tea. In the summer 1987, Charles and Wendy took a leap of faith and of immigrated to Canada. Charles had a successful career in the automotive and gas industry, finally retiring in 2011. Charles was "Mr. Fix-it"! There was nothing he couldn't fix, and he never gave up. He was a role model to his family, and we all wanted to make him proud. Charles worked hard in life and enjoyed his retirement at their property on Stoney Lake. Charles and Wendy spent their days renovating their home and enjoying their garden. You could always get Charles to sit at the end of the day when you offered him a beer, but not until the task was complete! Anyone who knew Charles, knew his 3 greatest joys in life were grandchildren, golf, and gardening. Charles was an avid golfer who loved spending time at Wildfire. When he wasn't on the golf course, he was watching YouTube videos on how to perfect his swing and driving Wendy crazy practicing them in the hallway. Charles was a family man through-and-through and loved having his family around. He enjoyed spending time teaching his grandchildren the tricks of the trade when it came oil changes and changing over the tires. He also loved teaching all the babies how to drive the tractor and cut the lawn. He was an avid sports fan of soccer, cricket, and rugby and loved watching the grandchildren play hockey and soccer. You will be Forever in our hearts and the memory of you will be shared for all the years to come.Show more

Jenessa Perreault

Age - 32

November 29, 2023

Jenessa Perreault brought so much light into the world, and on November 18th, 2023, she passed away suddenly at only 32 years old. She was born in Edmonton on March 1st, 1991. She was raised there for several years; it's where she first developed her deep hatred of most vegetables and made her first of many lasting friendships. She moved a few times, from Cape Breton, to Ottawa, to St. Catharine's making lifelong connections in each city before finally settling down in Peterborough in 2008. Jenessa had a life full of love. She lived in Peterborough with her three beautiful children and many pets. She would move mountains and earth for the people she loved, especially her children, and all of us will continue doing so in her memory. She was an advocate for mental health and Indigenous women, and she never hesitated to voice her opinion or to stand up for a cause she believed in. She was a passionate and driven young woman who could get more done in a day than most could get done in a month. In the last few years of her life, she reconnected with her Metis and Cree backgrounds and participated in traditional dances and created beautiful beadwork pieces. Jenessa is survived by her children Morgan Pitre, Emersyn Pitre, and Parker Pitre, her parents Tina Perreault, Phil Douglas, and Shannon Blanke, her sister Soliloquy Douglas, and her grandmothers Renie Perreault and Franki Marcussen. No amount of words will ever be enough to describe the love we all feel for Jenessa. We will be holding a sacred fire and celebration of life for Jenessa at Mnidoowag A'Kiing (The Spirit Lands) at Trent University on December 1st, at 11:30 AM.Show more

Louise Iolene Seim (nee Love) July 1st, 1928 - November 18th, 2023 It is with sadness the family of Louise Iolene Seim announces her passing away the evening of Saturday November 18th. Predeceased by her husband Harold, Louise is survived by her three brothers, John, Lyle (Isabelle), Gordon (Shirley) and her sister, Jean (Edward); by her sons and daughters-in-law Ken and Janet, and Glenn and Sharon, her grandchildren, Derek (Julie), Cheryl (Eric) and Michael and by her great-grandchildren, Emma, Abigail, Keith, Austin, Zachary, and Faith. She is also mourned by her many nieces, nephews, and their families. Louise was born July 1st, 1928, in West Williams Twp. , Ontario. She grew up during the Great Depression and 2nd World War in various communities in southwestern Ontario. Eventually, she and her family moved to Hanover. Louise met Harold in childhood and became sweethearts in high school. They married, on her birthday in 1952. Harold, a wise man, always arranged for large fireworks shows to celebrate their combined birthday and anniversary. Their boys, Ken and Glenn were born in Hanover. Moving to London, then to Ottawa, and, upon Harold's retirement, back to Hanover, they made many lifelong friends. Louise became known for her skills in the kitchen, organizing large banquets at the churches they attended. She also became skilled at cake decorating. She made wedding cakes for both Ken and Janet, and Glenn and Sharon, and for several of her beloved nieces, and nephews. Moving these cakes from home to the wedding venue (almost 1400 km to Thunder Bay for Glenn and Sharon's wedding) was a veritable demonstration packing skills and good driving habits. Family was extremely important to both Louise and Harold. Over the years, they enjoyed many extended family Christmas celebration, vacations, and reunions. They enjoyed adventures together traveling abroad with Lyle and Isabelle and with John and Beatrice. They also made many trips to northwestern Ontario to visit with Ken and Janet in Red Lake and Glenn and Sharon in Sioux Lookout. A few years after Harold's passing in 2008, and as dementia started its slow progress, Louise moved to Peterborough so that she could be closer to Ken and Janet. There, enjoyed many (weekly) family dinners at their place. Between those dinners and travelling north to Cochrane and Timmins, Louise got to know and enjoy time with her six great-grandchildren who knew her as GG. Eventually, Louise needed more and more assistance, and fortunately moved to Extendicare in Lakefield where her Janet worked as a nurse. Janet made sure that she was well cared for through to and after her retirement. Louise passed peacefully with Janet at her side listening to a favorite hymn. A Celebration of Life will occur at Northminster United Church (300 Sunset Blvd, Peterborough ON) on December 28, 2023 starting at11:30 a. m. Donations in memory of Louise may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, the Rotary Foundation, the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation or Northminster United Church (Peterborough).Show more

David Alexander Bacchus April 18th, 1943 - November 20th, 2023. It is with heavy hearts that the family of David Bacchus announce his passing, peacefully in his 80th year, in Peterborough, Ontario. Dear son of the late Alexander and Madeline Bacchus. Beloved brother to the late Carolyn Magee (Aubrey). Cherished Uncle to David Bradley (Jennifer) and Karyn Arthur (Jonathan). He will be missed by his nieces and nephews, Adam, Steph, Kaitlyn, Madeline, Grace and his 1st cousin Graeme Harnett and family. A very special thank you to Phill and Barb Rimmer for their care and devotion to David. With their commitment and support, David spent the last years of his life comfortable and most importantly, with dignity. Our family will be forever grateful. He spent his career with General Motors in Scarborough and then Oshawa. David also had a passion for cars, spurred by the love he had for his second car, a 1969 Firebird. A picture of the man and his machine proudly remained on display for decades, in his home. What the family will miss the most was his infectious sense of humour. His quick and sarcastic wit was spectacular when unleashed. Some may have called him different or even odd. To us he was just Dave or Uncle Dave. We loved him and we will miss him. Per David's wishes, there will be no service. Internment will take place at Pine Hills Cemetery in Toronto, Ontario. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Sick Kids Hospital, Toronto in memory of David. Condolences for the family may be offered at www. ashburnhamfuneral. caShow more
