Mother Loisstein (Mason) Boxley

Jun 05, 1934 - Feb 25, 2024

location-icon

Flint, MI

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 Mother Loisstein (Mason) Boxley well known as “Mum,” aka Stein, passed away at the age of 89 in Flint, Michigan. She was born in Brinkley, Arkansas to Reverend McCright and Josephine Mason. She moved to Flint, Michigan in 1961 and retired from General Motor Corporation after 15 years of service. Mother Boxley received Christ at an early age. Her Christian journey led her to Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan under the leadership of the late Dr. Pastor William A. Cox and remained there as a servant until the Lord called her home. Mother Boxley was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading her bible, cooking, traveling to spend time with family (especially family reunions). Oftentimes she would sing Amazing Grace. Some of her favorite places to shop were estate sales, Kroger and Great Giant. After thirteen children and their children, "Mum" never had an empty home to lay down in, wake up to nor come home to. Her door always remained open. She was a mother not only to her biological family but to the neighborhood of Beecher “Kennedy Estates”. She was a southern style cooker but often cooked meals to feed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as friends of friends in the community – no one went unfed. No one could make goulash nor dressing like Mum. Mother Boxley was full of life and love. After retiring, she was a caregiver to the elder and a babysitter to the babies. Love is what kept her on the go. "Mum" stayed super busy! She was the last of her siblings. As we prepare for our heavenly reunion with her, she leaves to cherish Tommie Psalms, her eight surviving children: Yvonne Morrow, Josephine Boxley-Horton (Walter), Ophelia Stradwick (Kenny), Antonio Boxley, Michelle Tucker (Ernest) David Boxley of Flint/Flushing, Michigan Mark Boxley of Atlanta, Georgia and Shantone Boxley of Salt Lake City, Utah; 27 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren; special friend Betty Brandon; special nephews Gilbert Mason, Robert Boxley, Ecker Lee Mason; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mother Boxley was preceded in death by her husband Louis Luther Boxley; parents, Reverend McCrite and Josephine Mason; stepmother, Maimi Mason; 5 children, Melvia McKinney, Catherine Boxley, William Boxley, Felicia Psalms and Ahmad Boxley; 8 brothers, Mack, Arthur, Monty, Albert, Crite, Tom, Charles and William; 3 sisters, Inollya, Ruth, and Betsy; grandson Baby Tony Boxley; granddaughter Tajuana Boxley. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7
