Santos "Poncho" Castillo Perez, Jr. passed away on February 26, 2024, at the age of 76. He was a resident at the V.A. Nursing Home in Kosciusko, MS. Born December 28, 1947, to Santos C. Perez and Marie Theresa Lemaire at Paris, France. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy November 1965, at the age of 17 and obtained his GED. He was very proud to serve his country and of his service on the USS Valor. After his military service he made his home in Jackson, MS and started his business installing carpet. In June 1991, Santos married Maiden Christensen in Jackson, MS and they were married for over thirty years. The couple were known by their friends as Poncho and Sam. Both were huge New Orleans Saints fans. They would travel to New Orleans many times throughout the years to support their football team. He is preceded in passing by his parents, wife Sam, sister, Frances Perez Weed of Jackson, MS and brother, Jose Perez of San Antonio, TX. He is survived by his sister, Irene Chacon (Victor) of Chicago, IL. and youngest sister, Linda Weaver (Gary) of Columbus, MS. Santos will be missed by his nephews, Kelly Weaver (Karla) of El Paso, TX., Colby Weaver of Denver, CO., and Garrett Weaver of Columbus, MS. He had a great love for life and will continue to live in his friends and family hearts. A graveside service to honor Santos' life will be held in Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 11:00am. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum Niche.

Services for Senior Master Sergeant Jack Paul Rushing will be held Thursday, February 29th 2024 with Visitation from 1PM-2PM at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes North. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:30PM in Meridian Memorial Park. Jack passed away with family by his side in Kosciusko, Mississippi on February 26, 2024. Born on March 28, 1929, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, Jack left home and joined the Military in 1950. He is a Veteran of the Korean War and dedicated 36 years of service before retiring with the Air National Guard. Married for 63 years, Jack and his wife raised their family in Meridian, Mississippi. Aside from being with his family, Jack loved golf. The greens were not just a place to play but a space where he found joy and camaraderie. He was also an avid chess player and enjoyed working in violin repair.He is survived by children, Dana Rushing (Jane), and Brady Rushing (Kim). Grandchildren Matthew Rushing (Jessica), Kellie Rushing, Justin Rushing along with 3 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.He is predeceased by his wife Peggy Gaines Rushing, his Father William A. Rushing, Mother Gladys LaMastus Rushing and son John Michael Rushing.

John Morris Ward, 97, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Baptist Attala in Kosciusko. Funeral services are 11:00 am Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Kosciusko First United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Kosciusko City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until 11:00 am at the First Methodist Church. John Morris is survived by his son John Morris Ward, Jr., his grandchildren Michael Ward (Allison), Stephen Ward (Laura), Kimberly Keizur (Shaun) and Matthew Ward, and his great grandchildren Elliana, Adeline, Amelia, Zoe, Baker, Ebon, and Ashlynn. John Morris was a retired Accountant, having worked for the Attala Company in Kosciusko. He was an active member of First Methodist Church having served in numerous capacities within the Church. He was also a U S Army Veteran of World War II. He had been active with Habitat for Humanity, the Kosciusko Historical Society, Walk to Emaus, and Boy Scouts of America. He was an Author himself and helped with the Attala County History book. John Morris was preceded in death by his wife, Clotea Johnson Ward, his parents, Ebon and Lettie Lowery Ward, brothers Ebon Ward, Jr. and Douglas Ward, sisters Mary Catherine Patterson, Frances Cheek, Lettie Golson, Empress Christine Ward and Dorothy Haney, and daughter Sandra Gail Ward.

They are survived by their daughter Kayci Tucker (Josh), son Jamie Hutchinson and 4 grandchildren, Drake, Brentley, Collins and Mackenzie. Jan leaves 3 brothers Tim Poole, Michael Poole and Frankie Lacey (Christan). Mike leaves his sister Diane Wheeler. Jan was a former schoolteacher and served as a Justice Court Judge for Choctaw County. Mike was retired Choctaw County Sheriff. They attended Hopewell Baptist Church. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Loette Russell Poole. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Faye Burkes Hutchinson.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 10:00 am until service time Thursday at the church. Berdie is survived by her daughters Betty Andras (Chris) and Janet Muirhead, her sister Debbie Stewart (Craig), 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Berdie was preceded in death by her parents Roger and Ruby Cheatwood Howell, her husband Louie Muirhead, son C C, and grandchild Robin. She was a member of Shiloh Church and a homemaker. Brother Gary Thornton will officiate the services.

Nicodemus II May 30, 1953-February 19, 2024Alfred B Nicodemus II was born May 30, 1953 in Newark, Ohio to Mryta B Nicodemus and Alfred B Nicodemus, whom both proceed him in death, Alfred had one sister Ramona Ferris, who also preceded him in death. Alfred was the oldest of the two. Alfred was also called Nick. Alfred attended schools in Newark, OH, where he graduated and then later served in the Army until he was discharged. Soon after, Alfred relocated to Mississippi, where he worked several years for Fleetwood Housing. During this time Alfred was introduced to a beautiful soul, the love of his life, Ms. Jerrydean Booker. Shortly after the two were joined in holy matrimony. Alfred the began working for Tyson Foods as head jack driver until he retired. Sometime after, Alfred joined First Baptist M.B church in Kosciuski, Mississippi, where he received Jesus Christ as his lord and savior and was baptized.Alfred was a loving, kind, and generous person. He had a great sense of humor, very playful and always telling jokes. Later in life Alfred’s health began to fail and on February 19, 2024 he made a peaceful transition at home with his wife. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and caring wife Jerrydean B. Nicodemus; 2 children: Heather (Richard) King of Texas, Holly Nicodemus of Florida; 3 step children: Sophia Booker of Kosciusko, Mississippi, Kenosha Booker of Peotone, Illinois, and Chevy Booker of Chicago, Illinois; 13 grandchildren: Nathan Smith, Savannah Nicodemus, Ryder King, Haley Nicodemus, Eureika, Eric, Mokeece and Kenisha Townsend, Harrison Griffin III, Dejah Booker, Dezire Booker, Chevy Booker and Chayla Booker; 10 greatgrands, 1 niece, 2 nephews and a host of in laws who loved him dearly.TRIBUTESMy friend, my love, my husband….Thank you for allowing me to know you for even a little while. Kobe played AAU basketball for the Yung Bulls and with the Oprah Winfrey Boys & Girls Club. Kobe loved basketball. Kobe was versatile playing sports: basketball, football, baseball and kickball. Kobe played his PS5 with family and friends. Kobe was loved by all and never met a stranger. He joked and loved to have fun. He loved God, family and friends. He departed his life February 5, 2024. He attended Kosciusko Senior High School as a Junior. Vonte had such a cheerful disposition. He enjoyed weightlifting, playing video games and basketball. He also took pleasure in going to the gym with his friends and going to work.
