James E. “Gus” Filegar, age 70, of Duncansville, has bowled his last frame and joined the big leagues in the sky. He passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 26, 202, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 14, 1953 in Union City, son of the late Kenneth O. and Ruth E. (Hadlock) Filegar. Surviving is his wife, Cynthia (Willis) Filegar of Duncansville; a son, Michael (Sarah) Filegar of Ashville; two daughters: Jessica (Jordan) Deshong of Altoona and Hayley (Brian) Filegar of Durham, NC; two step-daughters: Naomi Pelc of Atlantic and Holly (Greg) Luce of Conneautville; a brother, Don (Lillian) Filegar of Windsor, CO; three nieces; two nephews; 8 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his beloved yorkie-poo, Hollidawg. He was preceded in death by a son, Jamie Filegar; a brother, Kenneth Ray Filegar; and a step-son, Jeremy Bundy. James attended Cambridge Springs High School. He was a man of many talents. He worked at Millennium Rail, formerly Watco, for 26 years as an industrial painter, specializing in railcar repair. In 2017, he swapped his painter’s coveralls for a bowling ball and started working at Holiday Bowl in the pro-shop. There he drilled bowling balls and connected with fellow bowlers and customers. In his spare time, James had a passion for history, specifically the Civil War. He was a Civil War re-enactor and was also a published author, having written and published a realistic fiction novel, Fathers, Sons, and Brothers, in 2003. He enjoyed yearly camping trips with his wife and children in Gettysburg, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. His lifetime love for bowling never ceased. James was a man who knew how to spare a moment for those he loved, and he will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those who knew him. Friends will be received from 10am until the noon memorial service on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at The Well Ministry Center, 605 Burns Ave., Altoona, PA 16601. Freda M. (McKelvey) Morrison, age 97, of Duncansville, went into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at The Winds at Mattern Orchard, Duncansville. She was born May 21, 1926 in Tipton, daughter of the late Norbert and C. Pearl (Whitsel) McKelvey. On October 21, 1946, she married Kenneth E. Morrison, who preceded her in death on November 26, 1989. Surviving is a daughter, Mary "Peggy" Sollenberger (Robert); two grandchildren: Christina "Tina" Mobley and Randall Sollenberger; two half-sisters: Ida, and Lorna; several cousins: Norma Dultry (Doyle), Martin McKelvey (Georgia), and Della Parks; a special niece, Jonnie Malovich; and a special nephew Buster Brunner. She was preceded in death by a half-sister, Mary "Naomi". Freda was a 1944 graduate of Altoona High School. She was a member of Canan Station Mennonite Church, where she was actively involved. She also enjoyed fellowshipping with her Tuesday morning Bible study group. . Freda was a homemaker, wife, and mother. Surviving are his mother, Brenda of Duncansville; his father, Bradley and girlfriend, Jacqueline Haga of Duncansville; two grandmothers: Bonnie Harley and Sondra Hazenstab; a sister, Brooke Hazenstab and husband, Ellis LaPiana; a step sister, Abby Haga; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by two grandfathers: George Harley and Bernard Hazenstab; and two uncles: Eric Harley and Tim Hazenstab. Jordan graduated from Hollidaysburg Area High School in 2016 and from Pittsburgh Technical College with an associate degree in Computer Programming in 2018. He was born July 17, 1941 in Johnstown, son of the late Sharon D. and Geraldine Mae (Delozier) Piper. He married Dixie J. Imler on Nov. 13, 1963 in Winchester, VA. Surviving are his wife; two children: Sherie J. Piper (Kevin Diehl) and Dan Piper (Diana); and three grandchildren: Nichole Piper (Tyler Kessler), Danyelle Donaldson (Case), and Piper Diehl. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Durwood and Foster Piper and a sister, Doris Langham. Dan was a 1961 graduate of Hollidayburg High School. He retired as a truck driver from Wal-Mart. He enjoyed his antique cars and was a member of Fort Bedford Auto Club. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Taylor M. Miller Taylor M. Miller, 65 of Duncansville went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly Monday, October 16, 2023. She was born April 6, 1958 in Altoona, PA; a daughter of the late Justus Paul and Shirley Marie (Betar) Miller. Taylor was greeted in heaven by her parents, a brother Wadid "Woody" Miller and nephew Jordan Miller. Surviving are three siblings, brother Justus Paul Miller, II and his wife, Laurie of Duncansville; brother James F. Miller and his wife Penny of Altoona; and sister Clarissa A. "Crissi" Miller of Mount Joy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Taylor was a graduate of Altoona Area High School. She worked for Investment Savings Bank for 29 years. Taylor was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family and church. She was an active member of Faith Baptist Church in Altoona. She enjoyed worshiping the Lord, Sunday dinners spent with her family, spending time with friends while following country singer Trace Adkins, the Dallas Cowboys, and organizing bus trips to Sight and Sound Theater. She loved spoiling the family dogs with endless treats, who we all know will miss her greatly. Most recently Taylor got to enjoy her new great niece and was looking forward to buying her first fancy Christmas dress.
