Robert William (Bob) Newcombe was born September 21, 1943, in Rapid City, SD to William and Ursula Newcombe of Piedmont, SD. His father, William, was serving as a pilot with the US Army Air Corps in New Guinea when Bob was born and did not meet his son until Bob was 18 months old. The family lived on a working farm jointly owned by William and Ursula's father, Herman Benoit. In 1948 the family moved to Long Pine, NE where William was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. Bob attended Long Pine public school and graduated in 1961. After a short time at Kearney State Teachers College, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in February 1962. He remained in the Air Force for 30 years. He proudly stated that he had 15 duty stations in those 30 years. Half of those were overseas assignments. He spent five years in Alaska, nine years in Germany and served one year in Vietnam. He proudly retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1992. His awards included the Joint Services Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters and the Air Force Commendation Medal with six oak leaf clusters. After his Air Force career, he and his wife, the late Lillian Ketty Schatter Newcombe, lived in Fairborn, OH and Summerville, SC until Lillians death in 2013. Subsequent to that he lived in Texas, Ohio and Missouri. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lillian, three brothers, Floyd, John David, and Ted, brother-in-law, Dale Bye and sister-in-law, Barbara Newcombe. He is served by daughters Theresa Roger's of Fairborn, OH and Kathryn Price of Dudley, NC, granddaughter, Shannon Hester, grandsons Robert Rogers and John Price, great-grandchildren Zachary, Alyssa, Austin and Andrew, sister Janet Bye and brother James. Visitation will be held from 10:30-11:00am Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Springfield, Missouri. A Memorial Mass will begin at 11:00am with Father Tom Kiefer officiating. A Memorial Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 1:00pm Monday, October 2023 at Dayton National Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Herman H. Gloria Leidholt, 72, of Piedmont, SD passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Monument Health Hospice House. Gloria was born on July 30, 1951, in Ipswich, South Dakota to Frank and Christina (Landfried) Peterson. She graduated from Bowdle High School in 1969. Gloria went on to marry Larry Leidholt in June of 1970 in Bowdle. Together they had two children. Larry and Gloria owned Bowdle Chevrolet until 1986 when they moved to Groton, SD. She then worked as the office manager at Trail Chevrolet until her retirement. Gloria enjoyed her retirement with her brother in Piedmont. She is survived by her son, Jim Leidholt; daughter, Tabitha Leidholt; siblings, Ellen (LeRoy) Malsam, Larry (Brinda) Peterson, Betty VonEye, Donna Retzer, and Nancy (Vernon) Kaiser; and numerous nephews and nieces, great nephews and great nieces. Gloria was proceeded in death by her parents, Frank and Christina Peterson; husband, Larry Leidholt; brother, Jerry Peterson; sisters Sandra Kaiser and Shirley Goodman; brother-in laws Durran Kaiser, Earl Goodman, Bob VonEye and Al Retzer; and daughter-in law, Sheri Leidholt. A special thank you from the family to Justin and Pam Seeba for all their kindness, friendship, support and care that they gave to Gloria. Piedmont - Virgil L. Richards, 85, of Piedmont, SD, passed away July 28, 2022 at his home. Funeral services will be held on August 12, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Pastor John Britt officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. Virgil was born July 17, 1937 to William and Louise Richards. He attended school in New Albin, IA, and continued his education at Aeronautics School. Virgil was a member of the Army National Guard and served for 8 years. On September 6, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart Sandra Dresselhaus of New Albin, IA. Virgil worked for Frontier, Continental, and United Airlines as a Station Agent and Supervisor for a total of 38 years. He enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball for many years, raising red angus cattle, and riding his Arabian horses. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and his Shetland Sheepdogs and barn cats. Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Thompson and her husband Ken of Alliance, NE; son, Jay Richards and friend Sheila Quiroz of Montrose, CO; grandchildren, Andy Thompson of Wichita, KS, and Ashley Thompson of Denver, CO; his sister, Lois Shelton of New Carrollton, MD; his sister Virginia Pavek and her husband Don of Janesville, WI; his brother-in-law, Robert Dresselhaus and wife Sandy of Apache Junction, AZ; and sister-in-law Sheryl Welper of New Albin, IA.Show more

Jerome "Jerry" Joseph Weber, 82, formerly of Piedmont, SD passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Firesteel Healthcare Community in Mitchell, SD due to complications from COVID. Jerry was born December 12, 1938 in Bertha, Minnesota to Theodore Joseph and Mildred Elizabeth (Horn) Weber. He graduated from Verndale High School in Verndale, MN. After high school he joined the United States Army where he proudly served during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Staff Sargent in 1980. After his time in the service, he worked as a truck driver for Black Hills Trucking in Rapid City from 1983-1985. From 1985 until he retired in 2005, he worked as a maintenance clerk for the United States Postal Service. Jerry was a member of the Rushmore German Club, Black Hills ATV (All Terrain Vehicles), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), American Legion, and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). In his spare time, he enjoyed dancing, supporting local country bands and groups. Jerry is survived by his sons, Jerry (Vickie) Weber, Mitchell, SD, and Terry (Linda) Weber, Raymore, MO; daughter, Julie Crosby, Kansas City, MO; sister, Janice Eschedor; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife (divorced), Mary (Horn) Weber; son, Frank Weber; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela (Roger) Ivey; sister and brother-in-law, Joanne (Ken) Voelk; and brother-in-law, Gary Eschedor; and his granddaughter, Angela.
