Gregory Tackett

Age - 68

November 30, 2023

Gregory E. Tackett, 68, of Missoula, passed away peacefully at St. Patrick’s Hospital surrounded by his family on November 23, 2023. He was born in Fort Morgan, Colorado to William Tackett and Velma Arthur on March 27th, 1955. Greg lived many places in his childhood, but found a home in Troy, Montana with his mother and stepfather, Harry Arthur. As a teen, Greg enjoyed spending as much time outside with his two best friends, Ron and John Mosher. On July 5, 1975, Greg met Diana Bowers while they both worked canning sweet peas in Red Lodge on their summer break from college. Diana transferred to the University of Montana that winter to continue their relationship, and they were married on August 11, 1979. They spent 44 years happily in love, despite Greg’s dry, sarcastic humor and endless puns. Greg enjoyed a close relationship with his in-laws, Robert and Esther Bowers of Laurel, Mark (Beth) Bowers of Bothell, Washington, and Becky (Doug) Dyer of Seattle, Washington. Greg was an enrolled agent for the IRS, running his own tax accounting business, Tackett & Associates since 1980. He retired gradually between 2015 and 2019, spending more and more time exploring his favorite rockhounding spots in Challis, Idaho, Moab, Utah, and Agate Mountain, Montana. Greg was an active member of several rock clubs, including the Hellgate Mineral Society. Greg would encourage anyone who likes to be outside and is looking for a good friend to join a mineral society. Greg and Diana were proud parents of two children, Eric and Amy, who shared his love of the outdoors, geology, and reading… but not accounting. In May 2023, they became proud grandparents to Olivia Tackett. Greg once said, "how could one kid be so darn cute?" Eric and Amy tried not to take offense to that question. Greg and Diana enjoyed many adventures over the years, with Norway, Hawaii, Utah, and Arizona being among their favorites. They traveled to Laurel, Montana and Seattle, Washington often to be with family. Greg was a tax accountant by trade, but was a scientist, outdoorsman, and artist at heart. He enjoyed rockhounding, carpentry, hunting, fishing, baking, and rock tumbling. He was a devout Christian and regularly attended services at Missoula Alliance Church. He especially enjoyed learning and growing in his faith with his Life Group. Richard Miller

Richard Miller

Age - 86

November 28, 2023

This is my own obituary written by me, Richard Miller. I was born April 9, 1937 to Howard and Ethel Miller on Sconondoa Road. There is no such place anymore. It was located between Oneida and Verona, at the intersection of routes 365 and 365A in upstate New York. I was born in my Grandpa and Grandma Miller's house. That house, as well as two other houses I lived in nearby, have been replaced by a gas station. I have three sisters, Shirley Bodmer, Barbara Miller and Nancy Pierce. Barbara is in Heaven. My first job was being a caddy at a golf course on route 5 west of Oneida. I got a dollar for nine holes. My next job was sweeping floors at the bottle cap factory my last three summers of high school. My dad worked as a machinist there for over 35 years so he got them to create a job for me. I applied to a few colleges, but felt I didn't have much of a chance of getting in. So I took a job bottling milk after graduation from high school in 1955 at 75 cents an hour. A month later I got accepted at the New York State Ranger School. It didn't start until March of the following year. I made enough bottling milk and a few odd jobs to pay for the year of school. I attended the Ranger School and graduated in February 1957. Five of us that graduated got jobs working for the Bureau of Land Management in Alaska and drove up in two cars. It took three weeks, but it seemed like three years. I worked three summers in Alaska as a fire guard on forest fires and got to travel all over Alaska. I went to the School of Forestry at the University of Montana in Missoula for three years, graduating in 1962. I could have graduated a year earlier, but I got seriously injured in an automobile accident. A few months before graduating, I got married. Twelve years later after working for the Federal government in Montana, California, and Michigan and having three children, John, Chuck and Matt, we got divorced. In 1992, the boys and I moved to Falls Church, Virginia where I worked for the Bureau of Land Management and other agencies within the Department of Interior. The girlfriend of a guy I worked with fixed me up with a blind date. Our first date was on Valentine's Day in 1974 and we really hit it off. Three and a half months later we were married. It took a very special woman to marry a guy with three kids all under the age of 12. Three and a half years later we had a girl, Jenni. That was as large as our family got. While we lived in Falls Church, the kids graduated from high school. I retired at age 57 and enjoyed many things that I did not have time to do. Shortly thereafter, Carol retired in 2000 and we moved to Culpeper where we had a house built on our 10 acres. Woodworking was my hobby and the move to Culpeper was a dream made in heaven. My workshop was a double car garage full of every power tool imaginable and stacks of all kinds of wood. I got tired of doing craft shows so my woodworking slowed down. In 2014 we decided that we missed our youngest grandkids a lot so we moved to Midlothian to be near them. That was probably the best decision we ever made. All of my grandchildren brought me such joy, Forrest, Justine, Samantha, Mark, Addisan, Campbell, and Connall as well as my great grandson Theo. The family will receive friends 12 to 1 p. m. Monday, December 4, 2023 at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd. followed by a funeral service at 1 p. m. Interment at Dale Memorial Park.Show more
