Robert Gilkey Obituary

Robert M. Gilkey passed away Friday, October 6th, 2023, at the age of 92. He was born to the late James and Annette Gilkey on January 30, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bob was the beloved husband of the late Mary Elizabeth "Mae" Gilkey for 57 years; loving father of Mary Ann (Rick) Doerflein, Roger Gilkey, Mathew (Suzanne) Gilkey, and Lisa (Tyson) Triplett; cherished grandfather of Mike (Kristen), Brian (Ashleigh), Allie, Nathan, Ava, Tyson Jr. , and Silas; and treasured great-grandfather of Storm, Ruby, Deavon, and Charlie. He is also survived by siblings: Mary Lou (the late Bill) Osterfeld, Larry (Sharon) Gilkey, and Ken (Mary) Gilkey. In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by siblings: Dorothy (Bud) Mahon, Millie (Ross) McFarland, Jerry (Nancy) Gilkey, Jim Gilkey, and Don (Justine) Gilkey. Bob was a proud graduate of the University of Cincinnati. He spent his career as a Civil Engineer for the Metropolitan Sewer District and after retirement continued to work approving plans for Hamilton County. Bob was a dedicated man and worked hard to provide for those he loved, particularly his family. Though a man of few words, he was selflessly generous, helpful, and supportive. He was a planner, detail oriented, and a fair mediator. In his free time, Bob enjoyed creating and tinkering in his workshop. He was curious and loved to learn. Bob enjoyed taking nature hikes, exercising, and traveling with his family. Though he will be missed terribly, we are comforted knowing he is reunited with his beloved Mae.
