John Marion Cullers, 87, of Mt. Gilead, passed away October 16, 2023 at his home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 20, 2023 at Little River United Methodist Church in Mt. Gilead. Rev. Casey Harris will officiate and interment will follow at church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead. Mr. Cullers was born October 1, 1936, in Boone, NC, to the late Howard Alison and Sophia Lena Woodring Cullers. Mr. Cullers was a graduate of Appalachian High School and Appalachian State University. He was a retired educator from Montgomery County Schools and was a member of Little River Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Deborah East Cullers. He is survived by his daughter Jody's Cullers and grandson, Colt Cullers, of the home. He also survived by his son John Jeffrey Cullers (Jocelyn) of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren: Jack Cullers (Elise), Justin Cullers (Kirstyn), Sara Agan (Nick), and Emily Jones; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Cullers leaves a legacy of his passion and appreciation for music. He was a professional musician who played steel guitar in multiple country music bands throughout his life. n Albemarle, North Carolina, on September 26, 2023, Richard Allan Hange passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 74 years Richard was born in Georgia on April 27, 1949 He worked and retired from Southern California Gas Company in California and Morrow Mountain State Park in North Carolina A true lover of nature, Richard enjoyed walking in the woods and going down to the creek to listen to the water He was always spotting treasures on the way: arrowheads, interesting flowers or anything else that caught his eye He loved watching the wildlife that shared the woods and fields of their home, from the deer to the wild turkeys and many birds Richard stood strongly for his beliefs and had a generous heart His home was a welcome place for extended family to stay He enjoyed going out to lunch with his wife Marielena, listening to music and dancing together His passions included fishing, reading, flying kites, wood-carving and spending time with the many dogs he's had over the years But most of all, he adored visiting with his daughter and her husband, Ingrid and Patrick, and his grandkids and great-grandkids They were the sparkle in his eyes! Samuel Alexander Alias Eyeball, John, Henry, Cesaro, Pugh, Brown, Jones, Eyeclicker McRae, better known as "Shorty" 97 of Mt Gilead went to his heavenly home Monday evening, September 25, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, September 28, 2023 at White Crest Baptist Church, Pastors Ken McRae and Danny Laws will officiate and interment will follow in the Family Cemetery at the McRae Farm. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Wednesday evening at White Crest Baptist Church. Mr. McRae was born August 31, 1926 in Montgomery County to the late Murphy Asbury and Sally DeBerry McRae. He was a WWII Veteran of the Merchant Marines and retired owner and operator of McRae Roofing and Siding Company in Asheboro and was a member of White Crest Baptist Church. Mr. McRae enjoyed his life to the fullest. He enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing. He had a unique collection of antique cars he enjoyed making a trade. He was also well-known for his love of Story Telling. His most cherished time was spent with his loving family. He is survived by his loving son Danny "Whitey" McRae and wife Lisa of Mt. Gilead. His grandchildren Michelle McRae Millen and husband Bruce and Ken Alexander McRae and wife Christy all of Mt. Gilead and great-grandchildren, Robert Tyler Yarboro, Abigail Lea Yarboro and Gage Alexander McRae. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years Mildred Eudy McRae February 16, 2022. Charlie was born July 25, 1942, in Norwood, NC, to the late Philmore and Roxie Little Snuggs. He departed this life peacefully on September 11, 2023. Charlie Snuggs, 81, of Albemarle passed away peacefully on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Atrium Health Stanly. His homegoing celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Stanly Grove Cemetery in Norwood with the repass held at Norwood Community Building. He was educated at Kingsville School and spent his working life in construction. Charlie and Olebia met in Norwood and have been married for over 50 years. Charlie was a devout Christian and a longstanding member of Stanly Grove Church of God in Norwood where he served as their Deacon, Superintendent of Sunday School, Trustee, and Sexton. In addition, he had a love for fishing and riding bikes. He lived a full life that could only be designed for him by God. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters: Roxanne Gulledge, Ann Eliza Snuggs-Rustin, and brothers: Roger Snuggs, Adam Snuggs, George Snuggs, Richard Snuggs, Louis Snuggs, and Eddy Snuggs. Charlie is survived by his wife Olebia Snuggs, daughter Lynetta Alexander, sister Verdell Harris, three grandchildren: Shakira Alexander, Clairsean Alexander-Floyd, and Aneisha Alexander-Floyd, and four great-grandchildren: Jaeda Johnson, Emrie Johnson, Kori Littlejohn, and Gavin Alexander-Mason, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. Barbara Mabry Britt, 75, of Asheboro, formerly of Mount Gilead, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 surrounded by her family at her daughter's home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday September 17, 2023 at 3pm at Hamer Creek Baptist Church in Mount Gilead. The Rev. Jerry Mabry will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Barbara was born February 3, 1948 in Montgomery County to the late Eugene and Anna Lois Roberts Mabry. She was a graduate of West Montgomery High School. She was employed with Gilead Manufacturing before taking a job with ALCOA. She worked 25 years there before retiring. Barbara loved the simple things in life like a hot cup of coffee sitting by the lake admiring its beauty. She loved plants, flowers, nature and animals. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Above all, her Faith in Jesus stood strong throughout her life and she knew she would be spending Eternity with him in Heaven. Kem Floyd Almond passed away peacefully with his family on August 27, 2023 at the age of 68. Kem was proud to be a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and "pop pop" to his grand kids. He was well known throughout the community as a skilled auto mechanic throughout his life. Kem always took pride in his career and was known to family and friends as the man who could "fix any car". You could often find him either coaching, watching, or working with the Athletic Booster Clubs around Aquadale and South Stanly sporting events. He took pride in being at all of his kids games no matter the time or distance. He helped start the Aquadale Community Youth Basketball League as well as helping rebuild the Aquadale baseball field. Over the years he took an abundance of softballs to the shins and surprise footballs to his body attempting to teach his kids the sports they love. He was known to many for his sarcastic and witty sense of humor giving him the ability to make anyone laugh. He was an avid North Carolina Tar Heels fan and taught his kids from a young age that UNC basketball games were best watched with the TV muted and AM radio tuned to Woody Durham. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Aquadale Baptist Church. Rev. Delane Burris will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery.
