Lindale, TX

"Robert Hopkins Evans (Bob), age 84, of Lindale, Texas was called home unexpectedly to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 17th, 2023 in Tyler, Texas. His memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Hideaway Lake Community Church in Hideaway Lake, Texas on September 16, 2023 at 10:00am. It will be a combined memorial with his late wife, Priscilla Barnard Evans who passed eleven days later. Bob was born May 8, 1939, in Baltimore, Maryland and was raised in Summit, New Jersey. He completed his college studies and played soccer for Dartmouth College. After graduating in 1961, he volunteered to serve as a 1st Lieutenant in Intelligence for the Armed Service Division of the US Army. He was stationed in Ft. Hood, Texas and chose to stay and live in Texas for the rest of his life. He took his first job with Proctor \u0026amp; Gamble in 1965. This is when he met the love of his life, the late Priscilla Barnard Evans, when he was set up on a blind date in Dallas, Texas. After a short courtship Bob married his "yellow rose of Texas" in May of 1966. Bob worked in El Paso, Texas and then in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma before settling down in Dallas for almost thirty years. Bob spent most of his career working as credit manager for Ericsson Telecommunications in Dallas. After the children were grown, Bob and Priscilla retired and moved to Hideaway Lake enjoying the special community with great friends, family, and grandchildren for almost twenty years. Bob was the most loving, sweet, and compassionate husband, father, and "poppy" his family could ever hope for. He was a smart, interesting, handsome man with a good sense of humor and an infectious smile. His passions included his faith, music, reading, running, soccer, and painting. He played the piano by ear just beautifully and had a gorgeous singing voice. He enjoyed sitting down to the piano and the grandchildren have kept many recordings of his playing. Bob was known for his love for many genres of music from classical to jazz, from the Beatles to contemporary Christian music. His daughters' early memories include sitting on his lap, sharing his stereo headphones to listen to a huge collection of albums while he listened with them or read a book. He was also an avid reader, known to be reading four or five books at one time. His love of music and literature impressed his children and grandchildren who would often suggest, share, and trade books and create playlists of great music with him. Along with a love for the arts, he was just as much a lover of running and soccer. He was a daily runner completing endless 10Ks, half marathons, and marathons well into his fifties and sixties. His favorite sport was soccer, not only playing through grade school and at the university level for the Dartmouth College soccer team, but continued to play in adult leagues, and coached his daughter's soccer team. In Hideaway Lake, Bob served on the Board of Directors, was a current treasurer of the Hideaway Lake Community Church, a dedicated member of Bible Study Fellowship, actively involved in his "Saints Alive" Sunday School class, an active member of the Hideaway Dinner and Dance club, and sang with the Get Happy Singers in Hideaway Lake for years. Above all, he will be remembered as someone who loved and blessed everyone around him and who sincerely took great pride and joy in taking care of his precious wife Priscilla who had endured some serious health issues the last few years of her life. It made him so happy to help take care of her and be by her side. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Davison Evans and Virginia (Hobbs) Evans, his sister Virginia Evans Lansinger and her husband Larry Lansinger, as well as their son David Lansinger. He is survived by his loving family of two daughters Paige Leigh Evans Barriga and her husband Raul Jose Barriga of Missouri City, Texas and Leslie Virginia Hemby and her husband Shane Ryan Hemby of Plano, Texas; his five grandchildren from oldest to youngest Abigail Barriga, Avery Barriga, Ethan Hemby, Elise Hemby, and Addison Barriga. He also leaves behind his niece Robin Lansinger of Providence, Rhode Island along with many cousins and family members from around the country. Bob and Priscilla were longtime active members of the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church while living in Dallas and they have chosen to remain there following their celebrations of life at the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church Columbarium. Please send floral arrangements to Hideaway Lake Community Church in Hideaway, Texas. "
