Robert "Rob" J. Derouin, 54, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 at U of M Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on January 5, 1969 in Escanaba, son to Robert Lee Derouin and Sandra Elizabeth (Nelson) Wandahsega. Rob graduated from Escanaba High School, class of 1987 and later attended Bay College and Lake Superior State University. On May 4, 2021, Rob married Kelli Ann Degnan in Hannahville. Rob worked for Sysco for over 20 years and then for Reinhart Foodservice before accomplishing his dream of opening his own restaurant. In 2017, he purchased Sidetrack in Powers. He was a hard worker who put in long hours to make his business successful and also was a substitute teacher at Hannahville School. Rob enjoyed riding his motorcycle, spending time on his boat, and always collected too many vehicles. He had a passion for cooking, serving his customers, and also dining out and experiencing different restaurants. Rob had a love for traveling, especially going to Las Vegas. Spending time with his family and running his business brought him the most happiness. He was a kind and generous man, always supporting his family, friends, and the community however he could. Rob was that guy who would give the shirt off his back to help others. Among survivors include his wife, Kelli Derouin of Bark River; daughter, Madisen Derouin (Jason Mercier) of Escanaba; step son, Mitchell Johnson of Escanaba; mother, Sandra (James) Wandahsega of Wilson; siblings, Shannen Villeneuve and Shawn Wandahsega; mother-in-law, Donna Degnan; and many other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; infant brother, David James Derouin; father-in-law, Michael Degnan; and step son, Owen Johnson. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 11th beginning at 2 p. m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St. , Escanaba. The funeral service will take place at 5 p. m. with Rev. Darryl Pepin officiating. At the conclusion of the service, visitation will continue until 6 p. m. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Henry M. "Hank" Polishak, 93, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Cedar Hill Assisted Living in Bark River surrounded by family and caring staff. He was born on December 2, 1929 in Perronville, son to Matthew and Bernice (Dyl) Polishak. Hank attended Harris High School and, during the Korean War, enlisted in the Air Force (1951). Following basic training he spent three months in England followed by one year in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star. Following the passing of his father in December of 1959, Hank returned to Perronville to help his brother and mother on the dairy farm. He also worked at Harnischfeger from 1966 until their closure in 1983. The farming continued as they raised beef cattle for a few years with his nieces and nephews spending summers at "the farm" to help out. Hank enjoyed sports. In his younger adult years, he played on the Perronville Baseball Team. Also Hank was a long-time member of the Highland Golf Course, recording a hole in one and was named Senior League Champion in 1999. Hank also was acknowledged as the 1997-1998 Bark River Harris Sports Booster of the year. He loved politics, farming, and gardening. His garden supplied many friends and neighbors with vegetables--especially cucumbers. Hank was a proud veteran and a member of the Bark River American Legion. He was very grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in the U. P. Honor Flight. Survivors include his many beloved nieces and nephews who were more like his children; and a special family friend, who helped care for Hank. Hank was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Thomas (Joan), Walter, and Francis Polishak, Mary (Joe) Kamuda, Sophie (Ed) Blahnik, and Stephanie (Joseph) Smolucha. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 16th at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River from 10:30 a. m. concluding with military honors at 12:15 p. m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p. m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bark River with Rev. Darryl Pepin officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall with burial later taking place at St. Michael's Cemetery in Perronville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the U. P. Honor Flight. Steven Daniel Andrews, born July 22nd 1950, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, November 4, 2023. Steve was well-traveled before settling back into his hometown where he became a long time PC Technology teacher at the Delta County ISD. He was affectionately known as "The Captain," to many of his students. He could always be found rooting for his beloved Green Bay Packers. Steve will be dearly missed by his mother, Stella Andrews of Escanaba, MI; brother, Sid Andrews (Betty) of Escanaba, MI; sister, Julie Andrews of Hastings, MI; nephews, Ben Andrews (Lauren) of Sault Ste. Marie, Steve Andrews (Carolyn) of Traverse City, MI, Samm Lewis of Hastings, MI, Timm Lewis (Ashley) of Buchanan, MI, and Macky Lewis of Kalamazoo, MI; great-nieces and nephews, Isabella and Easton Andrews, Bauer Andrews, and Lexi and Rowan Lewis. He was preceded in death by daughters, Sarah and Samantha; dad, Bruce Andrews; grandparents, Ted and Ruth Polmateer of Escanaba, MI, and Sid and Sophia Andrews; brother-in-law, Bob Lewis; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Timothy "Tim" J. Farrell, 84, of Perronville, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Hospital. He was born on October 29, 1938 in Iron Mountain, son to Oren J. "Jack" and Alice C. (Hammersmith) Farrell. Tim was raised in Felch and graduated from Felch High School in 1956. On February 10, 1978, Tim married Nancy Jane Almonroeder in Gladstone. They have resided in Perronville for 48 years. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Operators Engineer Union 139 until his retirement in 1989. Tim was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, working in his large garden, and cutting wood. Visiting his friends at their camps and helping out with the production of maple syrup making were also things he enjoyed doing. Among survivors include his wife, Nancy of Perronville; children, Keith (Karen) Farrell of Faithorn, Kathy (Steve) Armstrong of Eureka, CA, Karen (Steve) Lounds of Norway, Steve (Stacy) Farrell of Pembine; step children, Chris (Matt) Dewan of Green Bay, Jim Stock of Gladstone, Jeanne (Bruce) Albert of Menominee, Joan (Jim) Richer of Bark River; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Bruce (Betty) Farrell of Tuscon, AZ, Mike Farrell of Iron Mountain, Jim (Becky) Farrell of Winsor, CO, and Don (Loann) Farrell of Felch; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Cary and Robert Farrell; sister, Judy Isaacson; and former wife and mother of his children, Patricia Farrell. Frances Flodin, 95, of Wells, passed away early Tuesday morning, October 3, 2023 at her home surrounded by some of her family. She was born on December 26, 1927 in Manistique, MI, daughter to Marcus and Lillian (McNair) Lindberg. Fran graduated from Manistique High School and then attended Cloverland Commercial College. On July 2, 1949, Frances married Malcolm "Mac" Flodin at Zion Lutheran Church in Manistique. He preceded her in death. She worked at the Fair Store, Delta Hardware, and then was the secretary at the Escanaba Area High School for over 18 years until her retirement. Fran enjoyed playing golf with the "Golden Girls" golf league at the Gladstone Golf Club and was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. Among survivors include her three sons, Randy (Shelly) Flodin of Doniphan, MO, Mark (Tracy) Flodin of Grand Rapids, MI, and Ken (Denise) Flodin of Wells, MI; daughter in law, Pat Flodin of Onsted, MI; 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; sister, Sandy Wilsick of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mac; she was preceded in death by her son, Fred; daughter in law, Brenda; grandson, Dustin; and sisters, Phyllis Arntzen and Patricia Hinkson. Ronda R. Malinowski, 56, of Harris, passed away on Tuesday morning, September 5, 2023 at her home as a result of multiple health issues she was struggling with. She was born on January 20, 1967 in Manistique, MI, daughter to Andrew Elliott and Linda Sue (Fitzpatrick) Swisher. Ronda was raised in Wells and graduated from Escanaba High School, class of 1985. On April 18, 1998, Ronda married Adam Edward Malinowski, Jr. in Hannahville. Ronda loved to perform and was passionate about music. As a singer and songwriter, she performed at many festivals and venues. She was so proud and it was a highlight of her life to open for Lorrie Morgan. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. Ronda always wanted to be knowledgeable of her daughter's Native American culture. She respected their heritage and wanted to be able to share that with them. Among survivors include her husband, Adam of Wilson; mother, Linda Swisher of Harris; three daughters, Heather (Andrew) Bartky of Rapid River, Barbara Malinowski and Gabrielle Sagataw Malinowski both of Wilson; son, Four Winds Charging Hawk of Wilson; grandchildren, Kayden, McKenzie, Rosalii, Leanara, Miles, Zakarie, Natalie, Noel, Eathen, and Adam III; siblings, Jackie (Clayton) Livermore of Perkins, Traci (Tim) Gartland of Rapid River, Terry (Rose) Swisher of Hyde, and Wendy Mattson of Riverland; and many nieces and nephews.
