Douglas Hance

Douglas Hance

Age - 50

October 14, 2023

Douglas Scott Hance went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 22, 1973 in Jacksonville, Il. All his life, Doug loved to keep his parents, Raymond and Karen (Warden) Hance, on their toes. Doug and his brother, B. J. Hance (wife Laura), had a lot of great times aggravating their Sissy, Janna (husband Jerimy) Wooley. Also, one of Doug and B. J. 's daily activities was being ornery to their dear Aunt Freda Sherrill (who lived with their family for 25 years) Doug was the proud Father of Douglas Ray and Charles Joseph Scott (C. J. ) Hance. He adored his two grandsons, Cameron and Colton Hance. Doug took great pride in all his nieces and nephews: Krista, Justin, Ryan, Brayden, Ethan, Jayda, Anthony, Noah, Joel, Maggie, Raygan, Bodhi, Benjamin & Nolan. Doug loved Jesus and his church family at the Beardstown Church of the Nazarene. When Pastor Bill Couchenor was pastor at Doug's church, the two had a special relationship. They spent many hours together going on lots of fishing trips, going calling, attending church camp, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army Kettle, and "trying" to ride on elevators. Throughout the years, their friendship remained strong. Doug's favorite baseball team was the St. Louis Cardinals and he loved attending games and watching them on TV. He also enjoyed watching his "favorite" NFL team. . . but that "favorite" team was always changing depending on which team was doing good that year! He enjoyed fishing, visiting with friends and riding around town on his scooter. He loved Dairy Queen, and a cherry vanilla Pepsi with extra ice was his special treat. Doug loved to call his Uncle Charlie "Tuffy" Hance and spent many hours talking to him. As a kid growing up, he loved to go to Uncle Tuffy and Aunt Judy's house for holiday dinners. Aunt Judy was quite the cook and always had quite the spread. Doug and B. J. , along with their cousins Ronnie, Curt, Chris, and Jason (Bubby), had lots of fun aggravating their cousin Karrie and sister Janna. Doug found great joy when all the family gathered at Grandma Alene's and he got to see cousins Tracy, Bud, Lisa and Mike. Doug loved all his cousins and enjoyed spending time with each of them. Doug didn't want to leave his family but was very excited to see Jesus and all his loved ones that went on before him: his dad and best friend, Raymond Hance; his grandparents, Clifford Hance, Frank and Alene Lisenbee, Charles and Beulah Warden; his uncles, Rev. Larry Hance, Ronnie Hance, Larry Warden, Ronnie Warden; and his aunts, Shirley Dawson and Virgina Warden; and several cousins. Surviving are uncles and aunts Richard (Carole) Warden, John (late wife Doris) Warden, Mike (Debbie) Warden, Joyce Wallace, Janice (late husband Mike) Knowles, Kathy Vermillion, Lisa (Marty) Turke, Marilyn (late husband Rev. Larry) Hance, Charlie "Tuffy" (Judy) Hance, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Memorials are suggested to Community Hope & Recovery Center's Community Housing Program. While living in the CHP apartments, Doug made many friends and developed many special relationships. He was so appreciative of all his caregivers. Emily Mathena and her girls, Brookyln and Kenzlee, were very special to him and he considered them to be his "adopted" family. One of his greatest enjoyments while there was to sit outside and visit with his friends. So, with the memorial donations, the family would love to honor Doug by building a gazebo at the CHP apartments. There is no better way to honor him than to create a space for others to visit outside and build those special friendships that brought so much joy to Doug's life. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, October 16, 2023 at Beardstown Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 9:30 AM until the time of services at the church on Monday. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
