Robert D. "Bob" Carroll, 70, Topeka, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023. Bob was born October 10, 1952 in Topeka, the son of James and Mary (Ruth) Carroll. He attended Topeka Public Schools. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and spent most of his time in the Mediterranean. He was a self-employed tile setter. He enjoyed watching Kansas basketball, Royals baseball and Chiefs football. He loved vacationing in Arizona and spending time with all his grandchildren. Survivors include daughters, Cheyenne (Andy) Gonzales, Mesa, AZ, Patricia (Eddie) Johnston, Topeka, Karen Acuna, Crittenden, KY; grandchildren, Iso, Raeahnna, Zoie, Zion, Scarlett and Rhett; Great-grandchild Violet; Brother Jim. Cremation has taken place and no official services are planned but there will be a celebration of life. Dove Southeast Chapel is assisting with arrangements. Adeline "Jean" Penry, 97, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023. She was born April 1, 1926, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Ralph and Bessie (Kasselhout) Hockett. Jean married John W. Penry on February 16, 1946 in Topeka, KS. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2013. Jean had the best laugh. She adored her children and grandchildren. She treasured her time spent with them. She enjoyed going to the casino with her sisters and playing the penny slots. After retirement, her and her husband bought a farm. The farm is where a lot of memories with the family took place. Together they shared their love for the garden. Jean would can anything and everything that John grew in the garden. She canned clear up into her 90s. Survivors include her children, James Penry and Jan Bryan; grandchildren, Jason (Brandi) Harris, Chad (Mallory) Penry, Destiny (Jon) Thompson, Jamie (Rebecca) Penry, and Chelsea Meyer; eight great-grandchildren and her sisters, Nancy (Larry) Redd and Dona (Virgil) Waldo and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Bessie; husband, John W. Penry; sisters, Becky Hodges, Maxine Bush, Alyce Frost, Marjorie Hummer, Grace Hockett, and her brother, Pat Hockett. A Funeral Ceremony will be 11:00 a. m. on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at the Parker-Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 N. W. Independence Avenue, Topeka. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery in Topeka. The family would like to specially thank Homestead and their staff for their continued help throughout Jean's time there. Tammy Irene Myers, a cherished soul known for her adventurous spirit and generous heart, has passed away on November 24, 2023, at the age of 56 in her hometown of Topeka, Kansas, due to a heart attack. Born on December 15, 1966, in Topeka, Tammy spent her entire life in the community she loved, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and a life rich in experiences and relationships. Tammy, a proud graduate of Highland Park High School, was a woman of many passions. She found solace in the great outdoors, often embarking on fishing and camping trips that not only quenched her adventurous thirst but also brought her closer to the family she adored. Gardening was another of Tammy's cherished activities, where she cultivated not just plants, but also the growth and nurturing of her relationships with those she loved. Family was the cornerstone of Tammy's life. She is survived by her devoted companion, Doug Deal, Dan Hutchinson, with whom she co-parented their beloved children. Tammy's memory will be honored and cherished by her sons, Thomas Chance, Daniel Hutchinson, David Hutchinson, and Scott Hutchinson and fiance Haylie Calvin, and her grandchildren, Aurora Hutchinson, Olivia Hutchinson, David Hutchinson, and Oakley Hutchinson. Tammy's love and legacy will live on through them. Tammy was the heart of her family, which included her siblings Gayle Brock and the late Greg Lister, Kris Schultz, Kim Rife, and Kenny Myers. Despite the profound loss of her daughter, Trina Chance, Tammy's life was a testament to the resilience and love that binds a family together, even in the face of adversity. Those who knew Tammy would describe her as not just adventurous but also incredibly generous and thoughtful. She had a unique ability to make everyone around her feel valued and loved. Her warmth extended beyond her family to her wide circle of friends and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her. Tammy's legacy is one of unconditional love, boundless generosity, and a zest for life that inspired everyone around her. Johnnelle Marie Hymon (Lady J) entered this world on December 12th, 1979 in Topeka, KS to John B. Hymon and Johnnetta Marie Brown Hymon. She was the first of three children who all carried the same initials as Johnnetta, J. M. H. Johnnelle represents a family of artists, musicians, entrepreneurs, culinary genius, creatives in fashion art and decor-but above all are a village of strong individuals who are lovers of family. Her early years were spent in Topeka, Kansas and among her cherished memories at Topeka High School were the moments she spent as a member of the musical groups Choraliers, Chansonettes, and Robed Choir. Beyond her high school graduation in 1998 she was pursuing further education at Johnson County Community College (also KU) to fulfill her dream of becoming a drug and alcohol counselor. Johnnelle desired to be able to help people who are battling addiction and guide them with resources and support into a better life. She was 5 years sober before her passing and gained many rewards for her accomplishments from her support system in AA. Johnnelle was currently employed at Maximus Services LLC, but previously spent a portion of her career in social services, banking, and at the Topeka Veterans Administration. Johnnelle was brought up from early childhood at the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ where she was an active member in multiple sections of the church before branching out to find her own personal higher power. She was always a social butterfly and made an abundance of friends during her lifetime including her former partner/childhood friend Wallace Lee Scott III. On October 3rd 2003 the pair welcomed their first, and Johnnelle's only biological daughter Ahn'Zure (Ahnie Marie Scott). Johnnelle's mom Johnnetta along with Johnnelle's sister Jenny actively participated in the delivery room to welcome Ahnie into this world. This was one of our family's most treasured memories. Johnnelle was preceded in death by her mother Johnnetta Brown Hymon, maternal grandfather John Brown II, paternal grandmother, Magnolia Hampton Bradley, and cousins Terrell Brown, Diamond Brown, and Eric Jackson. Johnnelle is survived by her daughter Ahnie (Marcus) (Lawrence, KS), siblings Jennifur (Katie and Nephew Zaire) (Los Angeles, CA), Jordan (Ashley and Nephew Zion) (Nashville TN), Father John (Toi) (Topeka, KS), bonus daughters Chrishe'La, Khade'Ja, and Eniyah, grandmother Lillian Brown, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends. Johnnelle's end of life wish was to be cremated and have her ashes memorialized by planting a tree in her honor. This will lovingly occur on a future pending date at the direction of her daughter Ahnie. Leslie Yvonne Baker, 49, (known to most as Joy) passed away November 26, 2023. She was born June 8,1974, in Topeka, Kansas to Robert Lee Wilkerson (Deceased) and Bobbi Jean (Baker) Wilkerson. Leslie was the fourth child out of eight siblings. She had five brothers: Robert W. Baker (LaCrescha), Fort Worth, TX, Tyrone L. Baker, Lansing, KS, Robert L. Hunter (Rebecca) Hutchinson, KS, Mauiro E. Wilkerson, Topeka, KS and Xa Lee (Vinai) Portland, OR; two sisters; Elnonia E. Branch, Fort Worth, TX and Ageonia M. J. Wilkerson (Jerad Henderson) Topeka, KS. Leslie graduated from Topeka High School in Topeka, Kansas. Leslie was a jack of all trades who worked throughout the community. Her greatest accomplishment was being in management in customer service, leaving a great impact on those around her. Leslie worked until she was no longer able to do so in 2022. Leslie loved to play her music loud and always had a good time. She was always on the move- spending time with her family (especially her grandchildren), having family gatherings with her children and grandchildren. Leslie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church for many years. To cherish her memory, she leaves her four children Brandon Wilkerson, Brendon Wilkerson,Jatese Brown, Shaylese Wilkerson all in Topeka, KS ;her mother, her spouse Clarance Jackson of 13 years; 9 grandchildren, her siblings: church family and a host of family and friends. ObituaryView Funeral WebcastPowhattan, KS Alvin R. Wenger, of rural Powhattan, died November 4, 2023, at Medicalodges of Jackson County at Holton, at age of 96. Alvin was born at home on the family farm near Powhattan, April 5, 1927, the son of Ernest and Ethel Warner Wenger. Alvin had twin sisters, Loraine and Lorene, 10 years his senior, both now deceased. During high school, he received the Union Pacific Scholarship. He farmed with his father and joined the US Navy when he was 18 serving on a minesweeper Gladiator in the Pacific during World War II. He returned home to continue to farm with his father, and in later years, his son Ronald. Alvin married Pauline J. Wolfley, April 7, 1948. They enjoyed traveling through the years including to New York City, and for their 60th wedding anniversary, to Alaska. They had a happy marriage and he will be remembered as a good man. She preceded him in death May 11, 2012. He's survived by a daughter Nancy (Jon) Mitchell of Lenexa, Kansas, a son Ronald D. Wenger of the home; grand-daughters: Elizabeth (David) Oberle of Keller, Texas, and Pamela (Todd) McDonald of Luxembourg; great-grandchildren: Audrey, Isaac, Gabriel, and Cressida. Alvin was a member of the Church of the Brethren; and Wenger Post #373, Powhattan American Legion. He and several Powhattan area farmers helped to organize what became known as the Powhattan Co-op and served on the board of directors for many years. Alvin and Ron built his home by salvaging old schools and barn. He enjoyed bowling and attending the Wenger Family Reunion held every year. His lifelong friend James Steinbrink was a pilot. Alvin, at the age of 79, started taking flying lessons. When asked he said "He wasn't getting any younger"!He will be missed!Services are planned for 2 p. m. Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Powhattan United Methodist Church. Shane Spangler will officiate. Friends may call after 10 a. m. until 5 p. m. Donald D. Barry April 25th, 1937 - November 28th, 2023 Donald D. Barry, passed away on November 28th, 2023. Don was born on April 25th, 1937, in Kane, Illinois the son of Robert and Geneva Barry. Don grew up in Wood River, Illinois, attending Wood River High School. Thereafter, he attended Kirksville University on a basketball scholarship, later transferring to Southern Illinois University to finish his basketball career. Don married Margorie Ann Baron on March 26, 1960, in Alton, Illinois, and they enjoyed sixty-one years of marriage together. Don and Marge had two children Tony and Angie. Don was drafted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Riley, KS. It was there that Don met and served under General Berry, who encouraged Don to take graduate classes at Kansas State University and ultimately to take the Law School Entrance Exam. Don graduated from Washburn University Law School in 1965. After a brief stint at a law firm in Hutchinson, Kansas, Don returned to Topeka and joined the law firm of Crane Martin Clausen Ashworth, that later became Crane Martin Clausen Hamilton and Barry. Don practiced with the Crane Martin firm for fifteen years before starting his own law firm, Barry Law Office. In 1990, Don's son, Tony, joined the firm and they practiced together for almost thirty years. Don is survived by his son Tony (Jana) Barry; and grandchildren Brogan (Katie) Barry; Addison (Matt) McLaughlin and Misty Redd; siblings, sister Betty Macias, brother Larry (Sherry) Barry; and his nieces and nephews. Don's grandchildren were his pride and joy. He also loved his farm west of Topeka, where he would spend countless hours riding on his tractor(s), brush hogging or working on his roads. The farm was Don's favorite place and a stress relief for the seven days a week work schedule he insisted on keeping until August of this year. Don was preceded in death by his both his wife, Marge, and daughter, Angie, in 2021. A private service and celebration of Don's life is planned for a later date.
