Robert Lester Bunting (Bob) was born on May 24, 1941 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, to the late Lester Henry Bunting and Ethel Virginia Godsey Bunting. Bob passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at the age of 81, surrounded by his loving wife Frances and his three beloved sons. Bob graduated from Norview High School and went on to study mathematics and education at Old Dominion University receiving a BA degree in Mathematics and a MS degree in Education. He taught math in Norfolk City Public Schools for over thirty-five years, served as the math department chairman, and is remembered fondly by his former students to this day. Bob married Frances Elizabeth Gray in August of 1964, and the couple celebrated fifty-seven wonderful years together. Bob and Frances raised three sons, Bob, Bill and David and enjoyed their children's early years on Mallory Court in West Ghent, Norfolk. The family later moved to their family's beach cottage in Virginia Beach. Bob was a devoted and loving husband and father. Bob spent beautiful days with his family on the beach sailing Hobie Cats, swimming, walking, and fishing. Bob enjoyed the state park, just a few blocks from his home, where he would boat with his family and walk to his secret fishing and crabbing holes. The family also enjoyed many summer camping adventures. Bob loved playing golf and tennis with his friends and always looked forward to singing in his church choir at VB United Methodist. Later in life, Bob cherished spending quiet evenings with Frances and his dog Bow, simply watching the tide roll in and out. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 57 years, Frances; son Robert and his wife, Trish; son William and his wife, Lisa; son David and his wife, Kristen; grandchildren Matthew, Austin, Daniel, Michael, Madeline, Evan, and Elena; his sister, Jean Peppito and her husband, Gerard, as well as nephews, extended family members and dear friends. There will be a family graveside service at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 9:45 am. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 11:00 am at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church on 19th Street. Following the service, a small gathering of family and friends, to share special memories, will take place at the home of David and Kristen Bunting. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
