Benjamin M. Barraza, aged 92, a man of profound love and spirited faith, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2023, at his residence in Huntsville, Alabama. Born on August 30, 1931, in Ft. Fillmore, New Mexico, Benjamin's journey through life was marked by dedication, joy, and an unwavering commitment to his family and country. A cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Benjamin leaves behind a legacy of warmth and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Martha Brocato Barraza; his son, Patrick (Cheryl) Barraza of Owens Cross Roads; his daughters, Cindy (Michael) Thomas of Liberty, S. C. , Angie Barraza of Huntsville, and Kathy B. (David) Matt of Huntsville. His love and lessons will live on through his grandchildren, Ken (Brittany) McLatyre, Michal Barraza, Logan Thomas, Jared Alburl, Christine (John) Barraza, Megan Thomas, Tori (Travis) Cassell, Jessica (Jeremy) Myrick, Nicole (Christian) Matt, and Mia (Austin) McShan, as well as a host of great-grandchildren and other loving family members. Benjamin's professional life was as illustrious as his personal life was rich. He dedicated over 25 years to the aerospace industry as an Electrical Engineer, where his exceptional work was recognized by NASA with the prestigious Silver Snoopy award, an accolade honoring outstanding achievements in human flight safety and mission success. His technical expertise as a Radar Tech in the United States Army during the Korean War, and his involvement with the "Minute-Men," further exemplified his commitment to excellence and service. Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Benjamin was a man of diverse interests and talents. He discovered a passion for tennis in his forties, which led him to become a two-time State Champion in doubles. His love for the sport endured, and he remained an active player well into his eighties, becoming a respected member of the USTA. A bilingual individual, Spanish was his heart's first language, and he took great pleasure in the vibrant sounds of mariachi bands, often found dancing to the music with a joyful heart. Benjamin's green thumb was no secret to those who knew him; his gardens, especially his tomatoes, were often the envy of friends and neighbors. But it was his family that truly cultivated the greatest joy in his life. He cherished the annual camping trips that continued even as his children grew and the arrival of grandchildren brought new adventures. His faith-filled nature was not just a characteristic but a way of life that he shared generously with all who surrounded him. In every aspect of his life, Benjamin was the epitome of a loving, faith-filled, and spirited individual. His stories, laughter, and the wisdom imparted will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy is not just in the achievements and awards, but in the lives he touched, the family he nurtured, and the community he helped build. As we bid farewell to Benjamin M. Barraza, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with honor, love, and grace. His memory will be cherished and his spirit will continue to inspire those he has left behind.
