Rita M. Johnson, 88, of Macomb passed away at 6:05 p. m. Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb. She was born on February 10, 1934 in Cooperstown, Illinois to Cledus and Winifred Spoonmore Cross. She married Philip R. Johnson on July 22, 1951. He passed away on November 25, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and two brothers. Rita is survived by one son, Rick Johnson of Plymouth; two daughters, Anna M. (Steven) Oller of Good Hope and Phyllis S. Smith of Good Hope; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Zachary) Prater of Vermont, Dana (Jerod) Brown of Wataga and Jeff Smith of Abingdon and seven great-grandchildren. Rita lived in Good Hope most of her married life. She worked as a cook at Western Illinois University for many years. She also cooked for several area restaurants and for many children camps around the area. She loved yard sales and riding in the semi. She was a member of the Sod Buster's Committee a member of the Good Hope United Methodist Church where she served as secretary for several years. She was also the head of the Agape Women's Group at the church. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they were the apple of her eye. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p. m. Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. Private graveside services will be held at Bushnell Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made in her memory.
