She is survived by her grandsons, Adam (and Jody) Shriver and their children Abigail and William of Pennsville, and Evan (and Kayla) Shriver and their children Isabella and Emily of Somerset; her daughter-in-law, Connie Shriver of McConnelsville and by her cat, Harry. Other relatives Dorothy wished to mention include her cousin Dennis Hann, Clint and Angie Shriver and sons Hunter, Hayden and Gavin, Shane Shriver, and Amanda Shriver. Dorothy owned her cleaning service "The Cleaning Ladies" for over 40 years. She also enjoyed "clowning" with her friends, Pat Border and Marna Hyatt at events and parades over many years. She worked alongside many other volunteers to establish and maintain the Christmas Lights in McConnelsville. She was instrumental in planning the Annual M & M Alumni Banquet for decades and enjoyed working with her classmates and other school alumni. Dorothy hosted several foreign exchange students throughout the years. She enjoyed learning about different cultures, and two of these students, Henrik (and Heidi) Verjup of Denmark and Jennifer (and Maykel) van Londen-Fries of The Netherlands became members of the family, frequently returning to Morgan County to visit. For all but two years of her life, Dorothy lived on Willis Hill Farm where she raised sheep, cattle, chickens, and hogs. Over the years her neighbors became a second family. Mike and Kim Hanson, Jean Glenn, Kay Bookman, and Karen Huffman just to name a few. They and some of her other close friends including Bill Kester, Gordon Ashton and Teresa Carnes could often be found spending time on Dorothy's sunporch swapping stories. She was a life-long caregiver her entire life. She cared for family members who lived on the Willis Hill Farm and spent her entire life caring for her brother Dewey. Dorothy was a member of Neelysville Grange, the McConnelsville Eagles, and the Mystified Mothers Club. She was a lifelong Democrat, supporting many campaigns and even serving on the Democratic Central Committee herself for a time. She also enjoyed watching her son Rick play music with many talented musicians over the years, traveling all over Ohio to Wheeling, WV and even in Nashville, TN. The family wishes to thank all of the kind and compassionate nurses and staff from Shrivers Hospice, who cared for her in her final months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shivers Hospice. Friends may call 3-5 pm Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville.
