LINDSBORG - , 73, was born April 7,1950 in Lindsborg to Hubert and Marlys (Spongberg) Mattingly. She passed away, unexpectedly, November 29, 2023. She attended Lindsborg Rural High School. She also had an identical twin sister, Joan Lindfors, who was born several hours later on April 8th. Together they were known as the Mattingly twins. She was very active with school events, sports, cheer leading, music and was home coming queen her senior year. She was also a Lindsborg Swedish Dancer throughout her high school years. While still in High School, she started on what would become her beloved profession: she volunteered as a "Candy Striper" at the local hospital. She graduated from Lindsborg in 1968 and headed off to the University of Kansas. She was a Frosh Hawk her freshman year and was a Devout Jayhawk. She then attended Stormont Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka, KS. While there, she worked in the hospital as to become a certified nurse. She was a Clinical Nurse, Staff Nurse and Team Leader. From there, her career in medicine endured for the next 40 plus years. Her numerous accomplishments touched many people. The list is long: Mother-Infant Consultant, Pediatric Behavioral Consultant, Clinical Preceptor for KWU students, Affiliated Faculty Appointment Fort Hays State, Pediatric Staff Nurse SRHC (Salina), Nursing Care Coordinator/Supervisor St. Johns Hospital (Salina). The next 10 years she touched many children's lives as the senior nurse in Dr. Rosales's Practice at Mowrey Clinic. It was during this period she earned her Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner and Master's Degree from the University of Kansas. It was then she decided to be a Pioneer: she opened the FIRST Independent ARNP Pediatric Clinic in Salina. She made it "kid friendly" with exam rooms that had Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh on the walls and a large exam table in one of the rooms that was a lion (the kids really love that room). The children loved it and were super comfortable going to the "Doctors Office". It was innovating and successful but was ahead of the times. She returned to school again and earned her second Master's Degree from Wichita State in adolescent behavioral psychology. She worked for Prairie View, Inc. in Salina and McPherson and St. Francis Boy's Home, Salina. She was recruited by Gary Co. Emergency Dept. as an ARNP-CNS/MSN. She finally retired due to severe back issues, but had to give it one more shot, so she filled the position to start a Medical Assistant program at Salina Area Technical College. She ended her long career three years later with the MA program on solid ground for the future. While doing all the above she managed to give birth to and raise three children, Andrew, Steven and Hannah. In 1993 she married her husband of 30 years, Hal Peterson and acquired two more children, Venessa and Jessica. She is survived by her husband Hal of Lindsborg; three children, Andy Kelley (Dana) of Lone Tree, CO, Steve Kelley (Robyn Ziolkowski) of Vero Beach, FL, and Hannah Kelley of Wichita; two step-daughters, Venessa Madden (Paul) of Leawood, and Jessica Peterson (Jason Daniels) of Oskaloosa; eight grandchildren she loved so much; Lena, Elise, Liv, Lexi all of Kansas City, Siera of Kiowa, CO, Aiden of Lone Tree, Jayden of Wichita, and Dante of Vero Beach. Also surviving are sisters, Betty Amos (Leland Nelson) of Lindsborg, Joan Lindfors (Allan) of Marquette, Connie Davis of Lady Lake, FL; and brother, Matt Mattingly of Palmetto, FL. In retirement Jane loved her country home. Planting flowers, feeding the wildlife, and decorating it spectacularly for holidays, especially Christmas. She was a Rock Star wife and mother. SALINA, KS - , 92, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023. She was born September 29, 1931 to Elmer and Georgia (Houska) Jordan in Claflin, KS. Lois married Wayne Nichols in 1954. Lois loved cooking, crocheting and embroidery. She and Wayne enjoyed many years of travel in retirement. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Robert Jordan and Cliff Jordan and sister Mae Ecton. James Lung

SALINA - , 78, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 from coronary artery disease and dementia. James was born on December 9, 1944 to Percy and Carrie Lung in their home near Newark, Nebraska. He graduated from high school in Superior Nebraska in 1962. In 1986, James met Lois Nelson, and they were married that same year on July 19, 1986. They were married for 37 happy years and raised Lois's two children, Philip and Jennifer Nelson. Before his retirement in 2017 from truck driving, James worked as a carpenter for Jack Gritten from approximately 1982 to 1990. Before that, he drove a truck for Spangler Insulation. James loved going places like Mushroom Rock State Park, to see the buffalo at Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, and the birds at Lovewell Lake. James was a very kind, loving person that always had a story to tell. He learned how to do a train whistle sound that was taught to him by a cousin. He always liked to do his "train whistle" for any child we would meet. James was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Carrie (Brenneman) Lung, his sister Charlotte LaPointe, brothers Harry, Percy, and Paul Lung. SALINA - was born on December 2, 1953 and passed away on November 27, 2023 at the age of 69. He was born to Clifford and Patricia Compton in Topeka, KS. He was preceded in death by both parents; his son, Christopher Compton; sister, Cindy; and his brother, Michael. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy, of 50 years; his children, Jancee Schuerger, Daniel Compton, Matthew Compton; his grandchildren, Trevor Hampton, Karastyn Schuerger, Danielle Kirkendoll, Anna Compton, Cole Compton, Claire Compton, Kristopher Compton, Gabe Compton, Adison Brant and Sebastian Brant; and his great-grandchildren, Charlotte Hampton and Avery Kirkendoll. Greg spent more than 20 years working with the Salina Fire Department where he started out as an EMT. He then became a firefighter and returned to school to become a paramedic and then a registered nurse. Greg advanced to the ranking of lieutenant before he left the fire department in 1997. He spent several years in Missouri continuing his nursing career. After moving back to Salina, he worked at Salina Regional in the cath-lab before taking a position at Fort Riley in the ER. Thomas Rouse

Age - 86

OLATHE - , 86, was born March 15, 1937 in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His life's work here on earth ended on November 22, 2023. Tom grew up in South Milwaukee. His entire neighborhood was his backyard full of constant playmates and friend s, especially his Rouse cousins. He would walk the 2 blocks almost daily to serve at early morning mass. He enjoyed his work as a teenager at Grant Park golf course on Lake Michigan. He attended St. John's grade school, Marquette High School and graduated from Marquette University. Tom married his high school sweetheart, his beloved "Schatzy," Florence Sulewski, on August 16, 1958. As a family, they moved to Columbia, South Carolina and later settled in Kansas in 1975. He was well-respected in manufacturing, working as an accountant, a controller, and eventually, the President of Superior Boiler Works in Hutchinson, Kansas. In Hutchinson, Tom and Florence were extremely involved with their church, community and kids' sporting events, having spent many years volunteering together with the Hutchinson High School Cross Country team. He often led the Rosary and the Stations of the Cross at Holy Cross Church. Tom also volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels, and the Kansas Golf and Youth Golf Association. Whether in these endeavors or over a game of cards, cribbage or dominos, Tom shined as a talented conversationalist. He had a laugh that made those around him join in, and to say "he never knew a stranger" was an understatement. When their kids went to college, they became true K-State fans, with Tom wearing purple and white at countless games with his family. When not supporting the Wildcats, he was an enthusiastic fan of the Royals and the Chiefs. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Gertrude, his beloved wife Florence, infant son Donald, grandson Jackson Rouse, his sister Mary Ellen (Rouse) Oswald and in-laws Rudy Oswald, Eddie & Arleen Sulewski and Roger Rayeske. Tom leaves behind his family that will miss him dearly, including his children Barbara Ehr (John), Jim Rouse (Cindy), Susan Williams (Gary), Mike Rouse (Dawn) and Jeff Rouse (Angela), as well as grandchildren, Chris Ehr (Angi), Jodi Tuite (Michael), Emily Budden (Ted), Hillary Richards (Tate), Abby Baez (Ozzy), Thomas Williams, Lauren Rouse, Nathan Rouse, Katy Rouse and Megan Rouse and great-grandchildren, Aubree, Spencer, Kerrigan, Emsley, Henry, Benjamin, Everett, Natalie, Cohen, Rosie and Josemaria, his sister-in-law, Dorothy Rayeske, and many nieces and nephews. , 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away November 19, 2023. Jerry was born in Tampa, Florida July 14, 1942, to Elijah and Edna (Folds) Scott. He grew up in Georgia, fishing and hunting and spending summers on his grandparent's farm. He graduated from Bainbridge High School, Bainbridge, GA. Jerry served his country in the U. S. Air Force, stationed at Schilling Air Force Base, Salina. He married Sharon Sheridan on June 11, 1967, in Salina. He retired as Fire Marshall of the Salina Fire Dept after 32 years. Scott branched into accident prevention serving on the Saline County Safe Kids board and helping secure grants for child safety seats and smoke alarms. He worked with the Kansas legislature as member and president of the Fire Education Association of Kansas to implement a mandatory smoke detection law for Kansas homes. He mentored youth as a Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America Troop #3, Salina in the 1980s. He was owner of Scott's Taxidermy for many years; showing his love of nature. As a member of the 1st United Methodist Church, Salina for 43 years, he served as a head usher and on many committees. He dearly loved his family and was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, William Wells; and stepbrothers, Harvey and Charles Wells. Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon; son, Jerry; grandsons, Luke and Jackson Scott; step grandsons, Levi Sanderson; sisters, Joyce (Clint) Hillburn, Becky (Owen (Grimsley) and Shirley (Jack) Ellis; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and sister-in-law, Edith Hummer, Ft. SALINA - , 32, unexpectedly left this earth Saturday evening, November 11, 2023. Emily was the first born to Mel and Tina Eck on June 11, 1991. Emily is survived by her parents of Beloit, KS; companion, Patrick Ryan and son Maverick Ryan of Salina; siblings, sister Shelby Eck (Kyle, son Theo) of Salina and brother Chance Eck of Medora, ND; grandparents, Earl and Norma Waterman of Beloit and aunts, uncles, cousins and a mountain of friends. Emily was a 2009 graduate of Beloit High School; studied business at Wichita State, and furthered her education online. Majors included pharmacy, paralegal and medical coder. She currently was employed at Central Care Cancer Center, Salina. Emily was a bright and loving child. She loved to express herself through dance and playing the piano and clarinet. In her high school years she was a smart young lady that loved her friends near and far, enjoyed cheering on her team mascot and performing on the dance team. Even as a busy young lady she still loved her after school job at S & S Drug. Emily loved making people smile and be happy. That wasn't hard for her as she had a contagious laugh, beautiful smile, and was a light to every room. Emily loved to host surprise parties and baby showers. Robert Earl Andreasen, 72, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023. Robert was born in Hays, KS, on May 28, 1951, to Harlan and Donna (Kerns) Andreasen. On July 1, 1970, Robert married his high school sweetheart, Stephanie June Pickett. They had 3 sons, James in 1972, Danny in 1974, and Patrick in 1982. Robert enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed in Japan for several years. During his military career, he was an Air Force Police and trained several military dogs. He also joined the Army National Guard after he was honorably discharged from the Air Force. He worked for the City of Salina as a Water Plant Operator until his retirement. Robert is survived by his sons, James and Patrick both of Salina; granddaughters, Samantha Radford of Wichita, Shannon Hird of Topeka, Jamie Andreasen of Wichita, and Haleigh Andreasen Salina; one grandson, Wyatt Andreasen of Newton; and one great-granddaughter, Mavryn. Loren Erickson

SALINA - , 84, passed away on November 9, 2023. Loren was a lifelong resident of Salina, born to Charles and Elizabeth on September 28, 1939. He was a 1957 graduate of Sacred Heart high school. Following high school Loren served in the Army and then returned to Salina and started a career as a mechanic. He will be remembered for his dedication as an AA sponsor, and a regular volunteer at the Fekas Christmas meal. He was a collector and a regular face at many auctions. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth (Beck) and Charles Erickson; brother, Larry; and sister-in-law, Joyce. He is survived by his brothers, Jess (Phyllis) and Jerry (Sara), along with many nieces and nephews, who will miss him dearly. Gladys Egan

Age - 98

, 98, left this world peacefully Nov. 9, and was greeted at the gates of Heaven by her husband Tom Egan and her two daughters, Margaret and her daughter lost at birth. She was born Dec. 1, 1924, in Pawnee Rock, KS, to John and Mary Kindsvater, and graduated from Kinsley, KS, High School in May, 1942. She married Tom Egan January 16, 1943, and they were devoted to each other in marriage for 60 years, until Tom preceded her in 2003. They had 5 children. Survivors include children Teresa Browne of OK City, OK, Elaine Wilson of The Villages, FL, and Tom Egan II of Manhattan, KS, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Gladys was a dedicated secretary, first for her future Father-in-Law, where she met her husband Tom Egan, then after her husband went off to WWII in Europe, she became secretary to the Vice President of Boeing Wichita. She performed this important job with competence and dedication to the war effort, when Boeing Wichita grew at a phenomenal rate, from less than 3,000 to almost 30,000 employees. She faithfully mailed from her heart both love letters and new socks to her husband fighting all the way across France and Germany. After the war she became a homemaker. In 1963 she also became secretary and bookkeeper for her husband when he launched his own business, Tom Egan Roofing, and then for her son, Tom Egan II. Gladys was enthusiastic in everything she did. She loved contests, and entered the winning name "Bicentennial Center" in the contest held by the City of Salina to name that facility. She also won a very valuable football signed by Dan Marino, which she gifted to her grandson Jamie Wilson. She was the top seller of tickets for the annual Presbyterian Manor Soup Supper fund raiser for many years, after she moved there in January 2004 after the death of her husband. At the Manor, Gladys led a morning exercise class for many years, and attended all types of exercise classes that the Manor held as well. She enjoyed announcing the birthdays of everyone at lunch in the Manor dining room, and greeted her friends there and everywhere she went. She lived a full and vigorous life, and was always thinking of others. She is dearly missed. There will be a celebration of life at the Chapel in the Presbyterian Manor in Salina, 2601 E.
