Visitation will be Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 2:00 followed by a Funeral Service at 3:00 at St Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady Street, Davenport, IA 52803. After the service, Rose’s ashes will be spread in the St Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Garden. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Rose (Rosalyn Ellis) was born in 1934 in Randolph, NE. She grew up on a farm until moving to town, Wayne, NE when she was in fifth grade. Rosie (as she was called) was very active in school activities – especially music. Rosie graduated from high school in 1951 and then enrolled at Wayne State Teachers’ College. She graduated in 1954 with a double major in elementary education and home economics. She married Kenneth Nuernberger in January 1954. Rose taught elementary school in El Paso, TX (while Ken was in the Army); Ute, IA; and Hinsdale, IL. She attended Gifted and Talented seminars and had much pleasure in teaching her students (all of them) to be fluent and flexible thinkers. Creativity was emphasized in every part of the curriculum. She retired from teaching in 1990 after teaching twenty-five years. She and her husband moved to Bettendorf, IA to live closer to one of their sons and his family. It was a very good decision in many ways. They started a nursing home craft ministry and it grew into twenty-one years of bringing joy and cheer to lots of people. Rose also made five hundred scrapbooks – of all different sorts. Rose was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church. She especially enjoyed helping the people feel welcome. In her younger years, she sang in the choir and played the organ. She and her husband always enjoyed the different Bible study sessions that were available. She was a member of P. E. O. Chapter LM. In addition to her music activities, Rose enjoyed reading, writing, doing crafts projects, and watercolor painting. Rose is survived by her husband; sons Jerry (Kate) Nuernberger, David (Joyce) Nuernberger; grandchildren Chris (Carly) Nuernberger, Mark Nuernberger, Tim (Sunny) Nuernberger, Sarah (Brent) Gomach, Mary (Matthew) Nelson; four great grandchildren, Hank Nuernberger, Adelyn, and Nora Gomach, and Myron Nelson; and a sister Barbara Andrews.
