Cherished husband, father, grandfather and brother, Chief Petty Officer Richard Michael Pulsifer, U. S. Navy (Retired), peacefully passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Frederick Health Hospital after a 16-month battle with lung cancer. Richard was born on May 23, 1941 to the late Wilbur B. And Clarice J. Pulsifer of Orlando, Florida. During his adolescence, Orlando, Florida was a quiet little city. Disney World was probably just an idea on someone's desk. Instead of waiting to be drafted, he decided to enlist in 1959 in the U. S. Navy, hoping to see the world. He did not quite make the whole world but after Boot Camp in San Diego, California, he divided the next twenty-two years between San Diego, California; Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; a Personnel Transport Ship to the Far East, The Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington DC; Taipei, Taiwan; an Ammunition Ship out of Concord, California; and last but not least, Port Huron, Michigan. After retiring from the Navy, Richard went to work at Hechinger's in Bethesda, Maryland and later Home Depot in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He and his wife settled in Frederick, Maryland in September 2001 to be near his daughter, her husband, grandson and yet to be born granddaughter. Mourning his passing are his wife of almost fifty-eight years, Harriet Pulsifer; his daughter and son-in-law, Sheri L. and Shawn D. Miller, Middletown, MD; Grandchildren: Christopher L. Miller and Katherine M. R. Miller, Middletown, MD: Siblings; Larry B. Pulsifer of Orlando, FL. , Cheryl J. and husband Joseph W. Robert's, Orlando, FL and Joy L. Powell, Orlando, FL; Brother-in-laws: Steven J. and wife Claire Leichtman, Rochester Hills, MI; and Robert L. Parke, Frederick, MD. An avid animal lover he will be sorely missed by his Miniature Schnauzer, Maggie May and his granddog a Teacup Yorkie, Holly Berry. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Oh, Dr. Wernick, and the nurses in the Infusion Center at the James M. Stockman Cancer Center, for the continuing care they gave Richard during this time. Another thank you to Ira and Lori in the Hospice Unit at Frederick Health Hospital for their gentle care they extended to both Richard and his family in his final hours. Lastly, the nurses, especially Natalie, and physical therapist Heather, from FHH Home Health Care who brought hope and encouragement on each of their visits into our home.
