Charles Edward “Chuck” Bertlshofer, Jr., 82, of Fort Madison, Iowa, passed away at 3:55 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024, at his home in Fort Madison.He was born on February 7, 1942, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Charles, Sr. and Mary (Cormick) Bertlshofer. On April 14, 1962, he married Karen Sue Randell at Sharon Presbyterian Church in rural Farmington, Iowa.He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years: Karen; one son: Michael Charles (Angi) Bertlshofer of Galesburg, Illinois; one daughter: Tracy Lynn (Mike) Morrison of North Liberty, Iowa; grandchildren: Tyler Morrison, Haley (Tyler) Africa, Stephen Bertlshofer, Michael Bertlshofer, Kylee Bertlshofer, Bryan Bertlshofer; sisters: Carol (David) Faeth of Eldridge, Iowa, Judy (Ron) Hunsaker of Burlington, Iowa; brother: Edward Bertlshofer of Fort Madison, Iowa; brothers-in-law: Larry Reid of Burlington, Iowa and Aaron Burghoffer of Fort Madison, Iowa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Joan Reid and Debbie Burghoffer.Chuck was a graduate of Donnellson High School, where he lettered in track, baseball and basketball for four years. He served in the United States Army Reserves for six years. He worked at Gleason Corporation for forty-four years, the last twenty-seven of which he was plant manager. Chuck was a member of the Sharon Presbyterian Church. He served on the Central Lee School Board for six years and was on the Fort Madison Community Hospital Board of Directors for twenty years. He coached little league baseball and YMCA girls grade school basketball. He enjoyed gardening, flowers, fishing and he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Family was of utmost importance to him. Chuck’s favorite motto was “Always give more than you take.”A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2024, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson.A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2024, at Schmitz Funeral Home with Pastor Katrina Bergman officiating.Burial will be at Clay Grove Cemetery in rural West Point, Iowa.A memorial has been established for the Donnellson Fire & Rescue.Schmitz Funeral Home of Donnellson is assisting the family with arrangements. Lester Walter Strunk, 75, of rural Donnellson, Iowa, passed away at 12:39 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison.He was born on November 24, 1948, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Frank Adam and Laverne (Nolte) Strunk. On May 21, 2005, he married Christine Jeffers on their farm near Donnellson.He is survived by his wife: Christine; children: Stacey (Jeremy) Good of Burlington, Elizabeth (Gabe) Orth of Burlington, Sara Mills of Mt. Pleasant, Jenel Wesselink of Burlington; John Robert (Sarah) Howell of Mt. Pleasant; daughter-in-law: Kimberly Strunk of Dallas City, Illinois; twenty-two grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; siblings: Melvin (Jo) Strunk of Donnellson, Dorothy (Dennis) Copeland of Copperas Cove, Texas, Willis (Sheila) Strunk of Rockford, Ohio, Alice (Ben) Milander of Reno, Nevada, Louise Ballard of Fort Madison and Dennis Strunk of Fort Madison. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Brian; brother: Marvin and brother-in-law: Ronnie Ballard.Lester was a 1968 graduate of Fort Madison High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He farmed all his life and worked at J.I. Case Company for thirty years. Lester was a member of the Donnellson American Legion Gillaspey - Moodie Post #474, the Southeast Iowa Beekeepers Association and he volunteered at the Donnellson Library and Lee County Speedway. He enjoyed gardening, being around his hound dogs and his beloved cat “Tipper”. Most of all, Lester enjoyed spending time with family and friends at everyone’s happy place “the farm”.A visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson.A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson with Pastor Mary Hart officiating.Burial will be at Oakland Sand Cemetery in Vincennes, Iowa, with full military rites presented by the Donnellson American Legion.Memorials have been established in his memory for the Donnellson American Legion or PAW Animal Shelter.Schmitz Funeral Home of Donnellson is assisting the family with arrangements. Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Price, 82 of Fort Madison, IA formerly of Keokuk, IA died Saturday, January 27, 2024 at The Kensington in Fort Madison, IA.He was born on February 23, 1941 in Eolia, MO the son of Daniel W. and Maizie May Sharp Price.Gerald proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy on the USS Ranger during the Vietnam War.On April 28, 1978 he was united in marriage to Donna Louise Wyrick Kay in Hamilton, IL. She preceded him in death on January 26, 2016.Gerald was a machine operator for Gregory Manufacturing in Ft. Madison. He had also worked various other jobs. He was a jack of all trades and could do about anything.He was a very talented guitarist and led several bands throughout his life. He was an outdoorsman at heart and spent as much time as he could hunting and fishing. Gerald had a very humorous side of his personality. Even though he seemed to be a crusty old person he was very loving and generous.He is survived by two sisters, Mildred Frederick and Juanita Axtell, a special nephew, Jeff Frederick, and a special niece, Terry Howell and other nieces and nephews.Gerald was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Charles, Daniel Jr., William and Robert Price.According to Gerald’s wishes, there will be no services.

Lillian M. Helling, 86, of rural Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family . She was born on August 3, 1937 in Houghton, IA to William & Loretta Hellweg Jacobsmeier. She married Stanley B. Helling on January 26, 1957 at Sacred Heart Church in Fort Madison, IA. In her early years, she was one of the first Candy Stripers at Sacred Heart Hospital in Fort Madison. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She was a member of Holy Family Parish and enjoyed baking, singing, writing poetry, camping, square dancing, ballroom dancing. Her favorite dance of all was the waltz. Lillian was known for her famous cinnamon rolls, her infectious giggle & her sense of humor. She sang bass in the barbershop quartet with her sisters, the L-Aires.
