Richard D "Rick" Luke, 72, of Williamsburg, went home to be with his Lord, Thursday morning, October 5, 2023 at UPMC Altoona He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Roland E Sr and Gladys A (Lear) Luke On June 1, 1977 he married Nancy A Roush in Altoona Surviving are his beloved wife, Nancy of 46 years; a daughter, Sherrie L Link (Matt) of Lebanon; a granddaughter, Ciara and two great-grandsons in Wisconsin; a brother, James D Luke (Arlene) in Tennessee; a sister, Judith Cole (Daryl) of Williamsburg; three sisters-in-law: Harriet Bowser, Darlene Jackson and Susan Blough (Jim); three brothers-in-law: Robert Roush (Peggy), Terry Roush and Tom Gorsuch; and many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by six sisters: Margie JoAnn Bowser, Dorothy E Bowser, Mary Alice Grubb, Betty J Luke, Ruth E Lykens and Violet M Blontz; three brothers: Roland E Luke Jr , Samuel Jack Luke and Charles E Luke; a sister-in-law, Emily Gorsuch; and a brother-in-law, James "Bill" Lloyd Rick attended Williamsburg High School and was a graduate from the Indiana University Police Academy in 1982 He was a U S Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving from 1969-1972 attaining the rank of Specialist 5th class and while serving his country completed his G E D He worked for 26 years as a car repairman/welder for Conrail, Sam Ray shops in Hollidaysburg and also served as a part time police officer in Williamsburg Rick was a longtime, faithful member of Grace Pointe Community Church, Williamsburg Rick was a lifetime member of the N R A and a former member of numerous local Sportsmen and Gun Clubs He loved spending time with his family, traveling with his wife, Nancy and creating many beautiful oil paintings Rick was also an avid outdoorsman, who spent many hours fishing and hunting out west in Wyoming He also enjoyed making people laugh and watching western movies and comedy shows Rick was a true patriot, who was extremely proud to serve in our military and help to preserve and protect the liberties of our great nation Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Monday, October 9, 2023 at Grace Pointe Community Church, Williamsburg and from 10 until 11am, Tuesday at the church, where a funeral service will begin at 11am, Rev Josh Kirksey officiating Interment with full military honors will be held at Shellytown-Fairview Cemetery, rural Williamsburg Arrangements are by John K Bolger Funeral Home Inc , Williamsburg In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Rick may be given to Grace Pointe Community Church, 815 Yellow Springs Dr , Williamsburg, PA 16693 To to the family or in memory of Richard D "Rick" Luke, please

"Dee" (Reininger) Miller, 62, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, September 19, 2023, at UPMC Altoona surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lewistown, a daughter of the late Merle D. and Roxy E. (Stimely) Reininger. Surviving are her life partner of 26 years, Bill Myers; three children: Jason M. Reininger, of South Carolina, Jessica E. Swindell (Chris), and Jennifer K. Welsh (Bill), both of Martinsburg; eight grandchildren: Colin, Blake, Braydon, Kaylin, Caleb, Kyle, Kendell, and Paxton; three siblings: Daniel Reininger, Mike Reininger (Sharon), and Barb Burket (John); and numerous extended family members and friends. Dee was a 1979 graduate of Central High School. She was employed at Cove Shoe Company, Martinsburg and at D. Merl Tipton VFW Post 43, Martinsburg. Dee was a member of the D. Merl Tipton VFW Post 43 Auxiliary, Martinsburg. She loved spending time with her family and relaxing by the pool with her grandchildren. Dee enjoyed playing shuffleboard and cornhole, going to the beach, and swimming. She also enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers. Evelyn K. KephartJanuary 6, 1943 ~ September 15, 2023 Evelyn K. Kephart, 80, passed away early Friday morning, September 15, 2023, at UPMC Altoona. She was born in East Sharpsburg, a daughter of the late John H. II and Betty (Mock) Berkey. She married David A. Kephart, Sr. and he preceded her in death on August 4, 2021. Surviving are two children: Sheri L. Koelle, of Wimauma, FL. , and David A. Kephart, Jr. , of Hollidaysburg; two grandsons: Ian Koelle (Cassidy) and Colby Koelle; two sisters: Pat Dick and Barb Mattern; a brother: John Berkey; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Berkey. Evelyn was a 1961 graduate of Central High School. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed oil painting. James Hershberger

Dr. James Kenneth Hershberger October 20, 1928 ~ August 29, 2023 Dr. James Kenneth Hershberger, known to his loved ones as Jim, passed away Tuesday evening, August 29, 2023, at the age of 94 in Martinsburg, PA. He was born on October 20, 1928, in Akron, Ohio, son of the late George E. and Alma R. (Baker) Hershberger. On October 15, 1949, Jim married Shirley Jean Hull at the Loysburg Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on April 16, 2019, following 69 years of marriage. Surviving are two sons: Mark W. Hershberger of Audubon, NJ and Richard A. Hershberger of Morgantown; three granddaughters: Hannah and Leah Hershberger of Orlando, Fl and Paige Hershberger of Morgantown; and a grandson, Garret Hershberger of Morgantown. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Rice and a brother, William Hershberger. Jim dedicated his life to education, starting as a classroom teacher and guidance counselor at various high schools, including Replogle High School, Northern Bedford County High School, and Spring Grove Area High School. He later became the Director of Curriculum and Guidance at Spring Grove Area School District and an instructor in Continuing Education at Penn State University. In 1968, he became a professor of guidance and psychology at Kutztown State College until his retirement in 1986. Jim's contributions to education were recognized when he was named Outstanding Practitioner by the Pennsylvania Association of Educators and Supervisors in 1983. He was also invited to be a visiting scholar and guest of Penn State University's College of Education. He finished his career in private counseling and as Director of Wholistic Health Care for Good Shepherd / Topton Lutheran Home. Jim served briefly in the United States Army, with an honorable discharge. Outside of his professional life, Jim actively participated in the Lutheran church, serving as a lay minister, classroom teacher, and member of the choir. He found joy in reading fiction and thriller novels and staying well-informed by reading multiple regional newspapers. Jim also coached little league baseball and enjoyed attending sporting events for his children and grandchildren. He had a green thumb and spent time working in his gardens, cultivating strawberries and undertaking various landscaping projects. Golf, family and friend reunions, and get-togethers were also sources of happiness for him. Jim's love for his wife's Hickory Nut Cake was legendary, and he always welcomed friends, family, and neighbors into his home. He also had a passion for music and enjoyed collecting Early American Pattern Glass. Thomas Guyer

Thomas H. Guyer May 16, 1955 August 20, 2023 Thomas H. Guyer, 68, died Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg, following an extended and courageous battle with Huntington's disease. He was born in Roaring Spring on May 16, 1955, a son of Robert W. and Eris I. (Shaw) Guyer. Tom was a 1973 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg, where he wrestled and played baseball. He earned a B. S. degree in Ceramic Science from Penn State in 1977, after which he joined Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS). Placed in Brigham City, Utah, he served at the Intermountain Indian School under the direction of Reverend Eldon Coffman. Moving back to PA when his service year ended, he worked briefly for Pittsburgh Corning. Still intrigued by the West, he returned to Utah, settling in Salt Lake City for over 30 years. He made a career of taxi and shuttle van driving, at one point owning five cabs. An advocate of recycling, Tom also worked as a used book dealer with area universities. His love of all things outdoors often found him on Utah's premier ski slopes, hiking and biking trails, and other parts of nature's vast countryside. When he wasn't walking for Habitat with Humanity with President Jimmy Carter, you might find him bicycling across open spaces. His highlight bicycle trip was a four-week trek from Salt Lake City to the New Jersey shore. With travel and adventure in mind, he knew off-the-beaten-path trails and scenic views in Utah's impressive National Parks. Fascinated by the enormity of western terrain, Tom also loved visiting Yellowstone National Park. In another adventure he spent a month exploring Europe with his best friend Al Pacheco, seeing the crumbled Berlin Wall. He and Al even illegally hopped a California freight train. He nicknamed himself "Nomad" to honor his many wandering exploits, in addition to the fact he was so easygoing. Tom cared about all of God's people and creation. For nearly 20 years he volunteered one day a week for Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity and generously rented rooms in his spacious home to college students and fellow cabbies. Only when his disease progressed did he leave his beloved West, returning to the Cove in 2011 where he could interact more easily with family and friends. His renewed love of Pirate baseball, along with Penn State and Steeler football, found him avidly pursuing those seasons. Tom leaves behind three sisters: Carol L. Detwiler of San Antonio, Kim D. Wagner of State College, and Sandy K. Caporuscio (Jim) of Martinsburg, as well as six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by older brother Robert B. and an infant sister. Tom's life will be honored on Friday, September 1, 2023, with friends received from 9:30 AM until the 11:00 AM service at Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, rural Martinsburg, where Tom was a life member. Eric Van Pittman of Martinsburg, PA passed away on August 3, 2023 at UPMC Pittsburgh after a long battle with cancer. He was born on December 31, 1958 in Everett, son of the late Arland Pittman and Arlene Pittman of Homewood in Martinsburg. He is also survived by a son Ty Pittman and granddaughters Adalyn, Aubrey, and Avery of Altoona; aunts Joyce Criswell of Everett, Velma Morris (Clyde) of Everett, and Joyce Pittman of Pittsburgh; and cousins Connie Micatrotto, Kirt Morris, Jill Payne, Cindy Speck, and Lana Timmins. He was also preceded in death by his uncles Wilmer Lashley, Dan Dears, and John Criswell. Eric graduated from Central High School. Before he retired, he was employed as a Sales Clerk at Sears & Roebuck, Pittman Insurance Agency, and Cove Shoe Co. Eric always had a passion for music and enjoyed watching old movies. Lillian Margaret "Peg" Miller, of Martinsburg, PA, died at the age of 91. She was born in Everett, PA, the daughter of Robert and Nellie (Calhoun) Diehl. On February 21, 1953, she married James Miller of Bedford, PA. Surviving are her children: Cheryl Dellasega of Hershey, PA, Carol Waltersdorf (husband, Robert) of Vestal, NY, James Miller Jr. (wife, Elizabeth) of Baltimore, MD, and Elizabeth Cook (husband, David) of Harrisburg, PA; grandchildren: Jason Waltersdorf, Matthew Thorn, Amy Gould, Ellen Dellasega, Joseph Dellasega, Anthony Dress, Katherine Miller, Josephine Dress, Sydney Miller, Seneca Cook, David Cook, and Aurora Cook; great-grandchildren: Krysta Thorn, Blaire Dellasega, Emalynn Thorn, Andrew Gould, Janzel Dellasega, Madelyn Gould, Juno Dellasega, Hannah Waltersdorf, and Evan Waltersdorf; a sister, Nellie Howser (husband, Jim); and a brother Thomas Diehl (wife, Marie). She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; a son, Timothy; and a son-in-law, Paul Dellasega. Peg was a registered nurse, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked at the Bedford and Bellefonte hospitals as well as in a private medical practice in State College, PA. Upon her husband's graduation from Penn State and their move to Vestal, NY, she became a stay at home mom, caring for her children through their school years. Peg was very active in her church, teaching Sunday school, chairing the Altar Guild, and taking Stephens Ministry and Bethel Bible Series classes. Peg was a hospice volunteer and worked for the Vestal Board of Elections for 12 years. When Jim retired in 1992, they moved to Fayetteville, PA, where Peg continued caring for others as a member of the church Barnabas team, visiting nursing homes and shut-ins and mentoring young people from the church, becoming a certified Adult Ministry Specialist. Throughout her life, Peg's love of quilting, sewing, needlepoint, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, hat making, memory books, holiday decorations, and more resulted in countless keepsakes and mementos shared with friends and family. Some of the more than 100 quilts she made were exhibited in shows and now keep her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren warm with memories of the love she stitched in them. Peg's faith was strong. She loved to talk about the Lord and set a good example for her family and friends. Merle Lamar Bange, 39, of Martinsburg PA, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 while working on their family's farm. He was born in Lancaster, Pa, son of Mark A. and Mary J. (Shertzer) Bange. He is survived by his parents of rural New Enterprise; his girlfriend, Lindsey E. McCreary of Martinsburg PA; a sister Marie E. Bange; a brother M. Laverne Bange (wife, Allison); a sister, Marla J. (Bange) Zeiset (husband, Lindon); two nephews: Emmett Bange and Julian Zeiset; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. Merle was a kind-hearted, caring, compassionate man reaching out to his friends and family in every capacity. He enjoyed horseback riding, raising longhorn cattle, farming with his father, spending time with family, and coffee. He worked as a contractor for I. B. Roofing as well as farming. John D. Croft, 85, originally of Ore Hill, rural Roaring Spring, residing at The Village of Morrisons Cove, died Wednesday evening, June 28, 2023 at the home. He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Eldon M. and Irene M. (Shehan) Croft. On January 4, 1958 he married Hazel I. Royer at Clover Creek Church of the Brethren. She preceded him in death on January 16, 2009, after 51 years of marriage. Surviving are two daughters: Deb Detwiler, of Lancaster and Donna Litzenberger, of Imler; a son, Bob Croft (Idella), of Midlothian, Virginia; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ruth Morningstar (Gary) of Huntingdon. John was a 1957 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School and was a member of Foot of Ten Independent Bible Church, Duncansville. He retired from Blank Book as a supervisor and in his younger years, served as a Martinsburg Police Officer and Volunteer Fire Fighter. John enjoyed spending most of his time outdoors, gardening, and attending functions through local Sportman's Clubs, where he was a member. Lois M. White, 84, of Williamsburg, passed away Thursday morning, June 22, 2023, at The Village of Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg following a lengthy illness. She was born in Williamsburg, daughter of the late Carl R. and Laura Mae (Detwiler) White. Lois was the last of her immediate family and is survived by nieces and nephews. Miss White retired on disability from Central Bank as a loan officer and branch bank manager. She was employed at the bank for 21 years, serving at both the Williamsburg and Wye Switches offices.
