Ruth Rose Rohac, at the age 96, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Meadows.  She was born October 29, 1927 to Roy J Ives, a traveling Wesleyan Minister, and Alma B (Kendall) Ives in the Omer, MI hospital. Her family lived on a farm in Bunker Hill, Mi. While traveling for his ministry, her father lost his life in a tragic train accident in 1932, when Ruth was five. He left behind Alma and her 7 children. Alma sold the farm and moved her family to Dansville when Ruth was six.Ruth’s Aunt Carrie taught her how to sew. She later took Home Ec classes to improve her skills and began making clothes for herself, as well as for her sisters. She continued this skill, sewing outfits and prom dresses for her own girls.Alma moved the family to Owosso when Ruth was a high school junior. There Ruth attended Bible Holiness Seminary School. She loved sports, so she joined the girls’ basketball team. She also took violin lessons while in high school. When Ruth was 16, she and her sister Lois found employment at Redmond’s. There, in 1946, she met a nice gentleman, Robert (Bob) Rohac. They then began to date. Ruth’s mother was concerned about their age difference (Robert was 10 years her senior), so Ruth decided to further her education and enrolled in Wilmore College in Kentucky. Before long she was homesick and missed Robert. He drove to Kentucky to bring her back. They married before a judge in a small town nearby, and headed back to Owosso, where they had their marriage blessed by the Catholic Church.Robert’s parents owned a bakery/grocery store, which Robert bought from his mother when his father passed and named it Rohac’s Market. It became the source of his income to raise his family…which grew to 6 children. Ruth worked there part-time. She helped operate a small ice cream store called The Shack, which they built next to the market. She later worked in billing at Owosso Florist.Ruth’s favorite pastime became reading novels. One after another. She belonged to St. Joe’s women’s guild in her earlier married years. Later she joined a women’s bowling team and golf team. When Robert passed away in 1998, she sold their large Copas Rd house and moved into a condo. She enjoyed the independent life, and she decided to enhance it by purchasing a red Cougar sports car.New paragraphShe did like her peace and quiet, but also treasured all of her children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s visits.
