He was educated in Woodrow Wilson High School.As a child he participated in club scouts at Third Baptist Church. Friz also played football for Churchland High School. He lived to laugh, joke, rap, dance & swim. He enjoyed spending time with friends & family; no matter what the circumstances were. Larry, a devoted and God-fearing Christian, showered his love upon his beloved wife Loretta and cherished children: Keon, Latrice, LaTeshia, Yeshua, and Dion. His heart swelled with pride for his grandchildren Makeja, Kylie, and Krystopher.He attended Churchland High School and Tidewater Community College, Larry was a hardworking individual at Craney Island, forming lasting friendships. His dedication extended to the US Army, where he served honorably from May 22, 1979, to June 13, 1989. Larry’s commitment to community thrived at Calvary Revival, where he served on the usher board and contributed to the food pantry.Larry’s legacy lives on through selfless acts of service, generosity, and the love he shared with his family and community. May he rest in eternal peace, his memory a beacon of love and compassion.Larry’s passions included praying snd reading his bible,health and fitness by running and swimming, travel, fashion, exploring new restaurants. Patricia (Pat) Johnson, 83, died on March 1, 2024 peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Pat was a native of Augusta Springs, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, William “Billy” Johnson; and parents, William “Frank” and Gladys Langford. Pat was an avid duckpin bowler for many years at Collinswood Lanes and Victory Lanes in Portsmouth. She volunteered with Olive Branch Little League and was past President of the Olive Branch Softball Association. Pat also worked as a District Manager for the Virginia Pilot/Ledger Star for many years in charge of delivery and collections.She is survived by her three sons, Michael R. Johnson and wife Debbie, Danny K. Johnson and wife Michelle, and Jeffrey S. Johnson and wife Tracie; five grandchildren, Shari Solis and husband Nick, Staci Hudson and husband Trey, Ryan Johnson and wife Carol, Lucas Johnson and Lillian Johnson; and eight great-grandchildren, Lexy Solis, Brayden Peszko, Braggeston Hudson, Maelyn Solis, Brooklynn Hudson, Summer Johnson, Connor Johnson and Brynleigh Hudson.A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, March 4, 2024 from 6:00 - 7:30 PM.In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to the American Cancer Society.

Patricia Joan, "Patty Jo" Nama passed on February 27, 2024 in Portsmouth, VA. She previously lost her brother, George Nama and sister-in-law, Carol Nama. She is survived by her husband, Thomas R. Potter; two brothers, James Nama and John Nama, and sister-in-law, Carol Nama. She adored her many nieces and nephews who were like her children. Pat also brought countless amounts of fun and joy to the numerous close friends she collected throughout her life.Born June 2, 1954, she spent her life in Michigan until venturing out to Chicago, Grand Rapids, Albuquerque, and Suffolk. She made a home in each of these places, finding new friends and appreciating the unique treasures and opportunities each had to offer. Pat’s greatest characteristics were listening, laughter and her love for dogs. She was the best listener; giving you her undivided attention and probing questions to help you process. Always quick to laugh at even the simplest, silliest or irreverent of things; it seemed her laughter came from the deepest parts of her soul. Rarely without a dog in her house, Pat had a special fondness for Golden Retrievers often rescuing them and giving them a new safe home.Honoring Pat’s values, there will not be a service. The Life of Savannah L. PhillipsDeaconess Savannah L. Phillips was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. On the evening of February 13, 2024, Savannah entered eternal rest at Maryview Hospital surrounded by her children. Savannah was born to the late Roger and Lillie Greene. She worked for forty-five years at Smithfield Foods before retiring. Savannah was an active and faithful member of her church, Greater Mount Zion C.O.G.I.C. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially spoiling her grandkids. For those that knew her knew she loved to talk. Savannah enjoyed taking care of others because she never met a stranger. Every person in the world, to her, was just family she hadn’t met yet. She leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters LTC(R) Danielle Eley, Shanikqua Eley, Kendra Spratley and bonus son Roderick Spratley; five grandchildren Erica White, Michael Gaynor, King Gaynor, Gabrielle Moody and Radnaisa Spratley; three siblings Roger Greene, Anita Lane and Earl Greene; brother-in-law David Hicks and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her passing leaves a great void and many with heavy hearts remember she may be gone in body but she is still with us in spirit. We will cherish every memory of her.Mom, your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. Carl is survived by his wife, Barbara Gray Murphy, three children, Carl Murphy Jr., Lisa Phillips, and Michelle Murphy as well as three stepchildren Gary Lassiter, Jeff Lassiter, and Jonathan Lassiter. He is also survived by one sister, Patsy McGuley, a stepbrother, Donald Merrett and predeceased by two brothers, Ken Murphy, and William C. Murphy. He is survived by 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10am at Restore Church, 600 Port Centre Parkway, Portsmouth VA. Brady “Boo” Dallas McAuley, 24, of Morristown, TN, passed away on February 17, 2024, in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was born on December 13, 1999. He was a beacon of laughter and cherished as a wonderful husband, father, and brother. Brady served his country in the Navy as an Interior Communications Electrician for five years, displaying the same dedication and spirit he carried throughout his life. He was a graduate of West High School in Morristown, TN, achieving his Eagle Scout Honor. As well as an enthusiast of the French Horn, which he played with passion in the marching band throughout high school. Boo’s life was marked by his commitment to his family, evident in his unwavering loyalty and his role as a loving father. His unique sense of humor brought joy to those around him, even in dark times. May his humor, love, and loyalty be cherished by all who truly knew him. Remember to celebrate his life with stories, laughter, and perhaps a playful ghost of Boo’s signature jokes. Brady is survived by his son, Wayland; wife, Jessica Neilson; sister, Lindsey Walker and husband John; niece and nephew, Lillian and Wyatt; mother and father, Sabrina and William McAuley; mother-in-law, Marjorie Neilson; brother-in-law, Ian Neilson; uncle, Neil Babb and wife Evelyn.
