Edward A. Payne, 82, of New Concord, OH, passed away peacefully at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House on February 5, 2024. He was born April 14, 1941, to George B. and Evalyn (Kirk) Payne. Ed married Alice (Hicks) August 9, 1963. They would have celebrated their 61st Anniversary in August. He retired from General Electric and The New Concord United Methodist Church. Ed and his wife attend Cornerstone Full Gospel Church, Duncan Falls, OH. He loved to be outside mowing grass and helping with hay on the family farm. He enjoyed long drives to the Amish Country, as well as looking for antiques, as well as tending to their spot at the National Rd Flea Market, and rescuing shelter dogs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Vinesca D. Payne; and sister-in-law Shirley Payne. Surviving in addition to his wife Alice (Hicks) Payne are his sons, Vincent “Vinny” and his wife Julie, and David and his wife Lisa, all of New Concord; five grandchildren, Kacey (CJ) Baker, Genna (Dakota) Norton, Leaha (Josh) Fitch, Zachary “Zach” Payne, and Michaela (Jon) Piper; ten great grandchildren; one brother Richard M. Payne; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Per Ed’s wishes, a caring cremation and private graveside service will take place at a later date. John D. Shipley, 72 of New Concord, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at his residence, with his loving family by his side. John was born on May 4, 1951, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Webster and Estelle (Ginther) Shipley. He worked for the New Bakery in Zanesville for twenty-eight years before retiring. John loved spending time with his family, especially when he was fishing with his sons and grandchildren. He also enjoyed Crosley cars and car shows with his brother, woodworking, collecting coins, and model trains. John is survived by his second wife, Karen E. (Weiser) Shipley, whom he married on February 29, 2020; his sons, Steven (Michele) Shipley, David (Kelly) Shipley, Dan (Amanda) McNeilis, Robin Stephens, and Robby Rice; his grandchildren, Alissa McNeilis, Elizabeth Kelley McNeilis, Jacob McNeilis, Jessica McNeilis, Bryer Shipley, Alexis Shipley, Michael Reynolds, Tabitha Stephens, Tyler Stephens, Madison Pride, Ava Pride, Brady North, Dominick North, and Devin North; his great-grandson, Ralphie Lee; his siblings, Estelle (Tom) George, Bill (Sallie) Shipley, Chuck (Jan) Shipley, Susan (Matt) Berilla, Ray Shipley; as well as several nieces, nephews, and countless friends. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his first wife of thirty-eight years, Virginia D. Jamie D. Moody, 48 of New Concord, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Beckett House with her family by her side. Jamie was born on October 7, 1975 in Cambridge, Ohio. She is the daughter of Terry Phipps and the late Julie E. (Vickers) Aikens. Jamie attended and graduated from John Glenn High School in 1994. She was a devoted mother and wife, her life centered around ensuring her family was loved and cared for. Jamie is survived by her husband, Brian C. Moody, whom she married on May 17, 2006; her two sons, Matthew Hutchins and Caleb Moody; her brother, Jon Phipps; her aunt, Mary Ruffel and uncle, Jody Vickers; as well as several siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. In addition to her mother, Jamie is preceded in death by her son, Justin Hutchins, who passed away in December of 2009; as well as her brother, Danny George. Lola Irene Boney, age 95 of Caldwell, Ohio, died Saturday, January 6, 2024, at The Beckett House at New Concord. She was born June 20,1928, in Dexter City, daughter of the late Clarence and Edna Addlesburger Schneeberger. Irene was a 1949 graduate of Dexter City High School and graduated from cosmetology school in Akron. She owned and operated Irene’s Hair Salon on Chapel Drive for many years. She was a longtime member of New Harmony Baptist Church and attended Ragans Chapel. She loved to read the Bible and watch various ministers on television. Irene was devoted to her family.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Irvil Boney, whom she married November 7, 1964, and who died July 29, 2014; an infant brother, David Schneeberger; one sister, Kathryn Boyd; and two brothers, George F. “Fred” Schneeberger and Paul E. Schneeberger.Surviving are her daughter, Lola L. (David) Todd of Caldwell, with whom she made her home for several years; her grandchildren, Jacob Lee Darnell (Cole Hall) of Littleton, Colorado, and Alisha (Pastor Andrew) Thompson of Caldwell; her brother Raymond Schneeberger of Caldwell; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, James and Beth Ann Miley and family.Friends may call Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 11AM-1PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 1PM. Mary Ann Showman, 76 of New Concord, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, December 31, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Mary was born on March 15, 1947 in Newark, Ohio. She is the daughter of the late Paul E. and Clarabell (Buchanan) Glecker. She worked as a nurse’s aide, and at Longaberger. Mary loved square and round dancing with her husband. Mary is survived by her devoted husband of fifty-three years, Larry Showman, whom she married on October 16, 1970; her children, Bill (Laura) Gartner, Michelle (Chris) Welsh, Mary Gartner, Dale (Heather) Showman, John (Ronni) Showman, and Richard (Nicole) Showman; her sixteen grandchildren; her eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul, and a sister, Barbara; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by two brothers, a brother-in-law, and a grandson. Martha K. Hughes

Martha “Marti” K. Hughes, 79 of New Concord, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2023, at the Beckett House in New Concord. Marti was born on July 26, 1944 in Muskingum County. She is the youngest daughter of the late L. Gail and Elsie (Elliott) McLees. Growing up in the hills of Rix Mills on the family dairy farm, Marti showed the prized Jersey cows at the Muskingum County Fair, throughout her 4-H years. She graduated from New Concord High School where she was Salutatorian. Marti was also a part of the National Honor Society, as well as a cheerleader, and was a member of the Homecoming Court in 1961. Marti was very involved with her community, becoming a member of the Norwich Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, as well as a member and officer for the Norwich Chapter of Children’s Conservation League, and she volunteered for the Good Samaritan Hospital for many years. Marti was married to her husband, Dick, for sixty-one years. They had a small vow renewal ceremony on June 30, 2023, at the Beckett House, attended by family and close friends. During their marriage, Marti was a full time homemaker, wife, and mother. Marti shared her love of animals with her husband, especially horses, which they referred to as Hughes Quarter Horses. They won several awards from the All American Quarter Horse Congress and the World Show that is held in Oklahoma. Marti had a variety of interests throughout her life. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, playing cards and board games with her family and friends. In her earlier years, Marti loved to sing and was a part of the College Drive Presbyterian Church, and would sing as a soloist for her family and friends’ weddings. She was an avid reader of a variety of genres, completing crossword puzzles, and within the last six years, watching and playing along with Jeopardy. Marti could not be interrupted during this time, and kept a daily record of all of her correct responses. Marti is survived by her daughter, Heidi Hughes of Canal Winchester; her two grandchildren, Whitney Hughes and Dallas (Taysa) Hughes; her great-grandsons, Grayson Flowers and Jaylen Hughes; her sisters, Gayla (Earl) Smith and Janet (Larry) Sebach; her sister-in-laws, Margaret Hughes of Michigan and Carol Bradford of Coshocton; her aunt, Edith Hahn; her special friend, Morgan Nash; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. In addition to her parents, Marti is preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard “Dick” J. Hughes, who passed away on July 7, 2023; her son, Richard “Rick” Hughes II; her sister, Eleanor (Neal) Aven of Texas; her brother-in-laws, Darrel Hughes, Roger Bradford, and Bill Aven. Visitations for Marti will be held at 10:30 am to 12 pm, January 6, 2024, at the Rix Mills United Presbyterian Church, 2770 Rix Mills Road, New Concord, Ohio 43762. Ruby Shook

Ruby Marie Garrett Shook, 93 of Blue Rock, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2023 at the Beckett House in New Concord. Ruby was born in Morgan County, Ohio on January 26, 1930. She is the daughter of the late Sidney A. and Emma L. (Darringer) Garrett. She was the first person hired at the Ohio Power Plant in Philo, and she worked there for several years. She also worked for Colonial Flower Shop in Duncan Falls and as the office secretary for Muskingum County Clerk of Courts for many years. She was a member of Solomon Lutheran Church in McConnelsville, Ohio. Ruby was an active and involved person who enjoyed traveling and helping others. Whether it was volunteering for Lutheran Social Services, tutoring for adult literacy, being a voting poll worker, playing piano and organ for her church, teaching Sunday school, sewing dance and Sweet Adelines costumes, a 30 year member of Sweet Adelines, participating in garden club, or attending events of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Ruby enjoyed life. She was so grateful that she lived long enough to watch her great grandchildren grow up. Ruby is survived by her two daughters, Rondah Wilson and Patricia (Bill) Schlosser; her grandchildren, Erin (Jim) Beane, Jessica Wilson and Lindsey Schlosser; her great grandchildren, Cambria and Hannah Beane, Sydney, Adam and Olivia Perrin, and Max Gardner. In addition to her parents, Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Richard Shook; her son-in-law, Howard Wilson; her brothers, Charles Garrett and Jim Garrett; and her sisters, Vivian Richardson and Carma Kalb. Camrian D. Mills, 19 of Zanesville and formerly of New Concord, passed away at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center on November 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Camrian was born on July 24, 2004, in Zanesville. He is the son of Shawn M. and Heather J. (Clark) Myers. He attended John Glenn High School with the class of 2023, and he was active with the choir and swim team. He worked as a lifeguard for the Village of New Concord and he participated in robotics and also the coding club. He enjoyed camping, traveling, and cherished the time he spent in Florida. He previously attended the Chandlersville Church of Christ. He had a love for all animals, especially, his dog Butch. He was a hard working man, who enjoyed working with his hands, and that showed through with his work at Elvira Farms in Zanesville. Most important to Camrian was time spent with his friends, family and the love of his life, Adraina Henning. In addition to his mom and dad, Camrian is survived by Adraina; also his siblings, Christian (Gloria) Mills, Alyssa Mills, Branden Myers, Aliyah (Ethan DiBlasio) Mills; his maternal grandmother, Michele Clark; his paternal grandmother, Ethel Mullins; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Camrian is preceded in death by maternal grandfather, David Clark; maternal aunt, Amanda Cochran; paternal grandparents, Gary and Anna Myers.
