On June 8, 2022, Richard Hughes, loving husband and father of three, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 56. Richard was born on March 26, 1966 in Medford, Oregon to Vernon and Mary Hughes. He grew up in Happy Camp, and spent his childhood with good friends and amazing neighbors. His family moved to Montague, and they eventually settled in Yreka. Richard graduated from Yreka High School. He played baseball and football. He once won the Punt, Pass and Kick competition. He started his career falling timber, grading and operating various kinds of equipment. He also worked for George Mott Logging. When his father retired, Richard worked for Crawford Logging, until he sustained an injury that prevented him from continuing to work. On April 24, 2004 Richard married Veronica Dasalla Paa, and together they raised two sons, Clarence and Kyle. Richard had a passion for hunting, fishing, gazing at stars, bird watching and he loved 80's rock music. Richard was preceded in death by his father and sister, Rhonda. He is survived by his wife, Veronica, two sons, a daughter, his mother, a brother and sister, several cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Richard's health started to decline in 2018. Richard, his wife and two sons want to give God all the praises and honor for seeing them through in times of life's challenges - providing all their needs and surrounding them with good friends. A Celebration of the Life of Richard Hughes will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Bethel Assembly of God Church, 1115 Lane Street in Yreka. Richard would have loved to have his friends and people that he had good relationships with to attend his memorial.
