Lewis Cook, of Burke, Virginia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Lewis will be remembered as a kind southern gentleman, fun-loving, generous and entirely devoted to his family. He was the youngest child of Eldred and Dorothy Cook, born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He graduated from Kingsbury High School, then the University of Alabama, earning his degree in Commerce and Business Administration. After school he was employed by the Navy but took time away from work to travel and ski in Aspen and Europe. He eventually settled in Arlington, Virginia where he worked for Raleigh Haberdasher and Nordstrom's and met his wife of 43 years, Bonnie. They shared a life filled with wonderful family, neighbors, co-workers, and friends, and immersed themselves in raising their two sons, Cannon and Drew. A humble man, Lewis found the happiness in every day. He extended himself for others, while lifting the spirits of all who encountered him - always ready with a joke, a tease, or some Memphis memories. He was dapper and handsome, strong and kind, and kept the family grounded in the things that really matter in life. He is survived by his wife Bonnie; his two sons, Cannon and Drew; his brother, Derry Cook (wife Edith); his mother-in-law, Jacquelyn Spurlock; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Kevin McCarthy, and Raine and Jim Weiss; and his nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews, Heather Proffen (husband David and children Cassidy, Dash, Felicity, Adeline and Graham), Jackie Woodyard (husband Woody and children Miles, Fisher, Ellie Mae, and Ivy), JD Gerblick (wife Liz and children JR, Emma, and Shea), Michelle Siska (husband Erik and Reagan, Ainsley, and Corrine), Ryan Gerblick, Curtis Cook, Andy Cook (wife Shannon and children Davis and Caroline), Derry Cook (wife Laura and children Derry and Avery), and Troy Lucas (wife Katharine and children Brooke, Morgan and Kati). Friends and family are welcome to attend his viewing from 3-8 PM on Tuesday, September 26th, at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home (9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22032). A service celebrating the life of Lewis will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, September 27th, at Messiah Methodist Church (6215 Rolling Road, West Springfield, VA 22152).
