Shirley Moorehouse, 97, passed away peacefully with her daughter and son-in-law by her side on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Maple Ridge Care Center in Spooner, Wisconsin. Shirley was born in 1926 to Walter and Eleanora (Krause) Glaser in Chicago, Illinois. The family made their home in Riverside, Illinois where Shirley lived with her parents and older brother, Wally. She graduated from Riverside Brookfield High School in 1944 and worked at Marshall Fields & Co. after graduation. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Riverside and met her future husband, Richard "Dick" Moorehouse, in the choir at church. Needing extra choir members for a program, Richard joined her choir from his church in Chicago. He sat behind Shirley in the choir and the rest was history. They were married in 1946 after Dick returned from the Army WWII. They moved to North Riverside and had one daughter, Joan. Eleanora Glaser "Nonnie" also lived with them after her husband Walter died at the age of 45. Shirley was employed by Ford Motor Company as a cashier, in billing and payroll for 16 years in the Chicago suburbs. She also worked for C & C Foods as a cashier. In 1980, Shirley and Dick moved to Springbrook, Wisconsin where Shirley worked for U. S. Forest Service in Hayward, WI. for 5 years until retirement. They lived near to her daughter and family and spent a lot of fun time with their two grandchildren at their lake home. Shirley’s family was always the highlight of her life. In 1989, Shirley and Dick moved to Two Harbors, MN. to be nearer to their daughter and family. They were married 44 years when Dick passed away. Shirley later moved to Spooner, WI. where she lived independently at Goslin Courts for 19 years. Over the years, Shirley was the family faithful "prayer warrior. " She had attended Trego Community Church, WI. and First Baptist Church in Two Harbors. She also attended Grace Lutheran Church services via television in her later years. She read her daily devotionals and read the entire Bible. She loved Jesus. Shirley was a breast cancer survivor for 25 years. Her cancer never returned. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard in 1991; and brother Wallace Glaser. Shirley is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Joan (and "son"-in-law Peter) Wainer of Chippewa Falls, WI. ; grandson Kale Wainer; granddaughter Kylie Wainer; and five great-grandchildren, four nieces and one nephew. The family wishes to give special thanks to Maple Ridge Care Center to the wonderful staff and excellent care given; St. Croix Hospice staff for the compassion, comfort and care given; and awesome neighbor and friend, Gloria, for all the kindness shown to Shirley and her family. Also, Meals on Wheels, Faith in Action – Neighbor to Neighbor (Lori), and Economart grocery order and delivery for helping to keep my mom live independently. Donna Jean Fink, age 92, a current resident of Eau Claire, WI and formerly a long-time resident of Solon Springs, WI, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Heritage Court Memory Care in Eau Claire from the progression of Alzheimer's. Donna was born July 8, 1931 in Superior, WI, the 10th child of Jeremiah and Florence (Lobb) Noonan. She graduated from the former East High. She married Charles Fink December 15, 1956. They moved to Solon Springs in late 1962. They resided in Solon until moving to Cedar Ridge Assisted Living in Superior in late 2018. In May of 2022 Donna moved to Eau Claire. Donna enjoyed knitting, crocheting and doing crossword puzzles. She also liked singing in the church choir at the Presbyterian Church in Solon as well as the Woodtones, a women's musical group. Donna worked for many years at the grocery store in Solon. She looked forward to annual bus trips to Florida with Charlie and helping with the American Legion Auxiliary projects. According to her grandchildren, Donna Made the best applesauce ever. Donna is survived by her children, Jeanine (Dave) Maenner, Mike (Linda Trepanier) Fink, and Renee (Dave) Vaara; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; her brothers, Gerald, Harry, Jack, Lawrence "Buzz", and William; her sisters, Dorothy Mahoney, Corrine McDonald, Marian Van Overeiren, and Beatrice Sislo; her brother-in-law, Robert Fink; and in-laws, Julius and Katie Fink. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A. M. on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Solon Springs Funeral Home, 9005 E. Biller Loop in Solon Springs, where visitation will be held from 10:00 A. M. until the hour of the service. Interment will take place at 1:30 P. M. at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI The family would like to express thanks to St. Croix Hospice for the care and compassion they showed mom. Melanie Meacham, age 72, a resident of Spooner, died on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Spooner Health in Spooner. Melanie was born on July 11, 1951, in Menomonie, Wisconsin to parents Dwight and Josephine (Edmunds) Poquette. She was the youngest of 5 children and was raised in Elmwood, Wisconsin. At the age of 13, her father died and the family then moved to a farm near Plum City after her mother remarried. Melanie was an avid motorcycle rider with her high school friend Jane and graduated Elmwood High School in 1969. At the age of 19, she was married, and although later divorced, 2 children were born to this union. Melanie worked at the Elmwood Heritage Nursing Home until 1980 when them moved to Pepin. While in Pepin, she worked at the Pepin Manor Nursing Home until her move to Red Wing, Minnesota. While living in Red Wing, she worked in management at the Treasure Island Resort and Casino for many years. In 2000, she moved to Spooner where the family had vacationed for many years. Melanie found work in Spooner at Economart where she worked in management also. In 2007, Melanie was united in marriage to Francis "Fritz" Meacham in Spooner. Melanie is survived by her children Jennifer Girard of Spooner and Matthew Girard of Spooner, grandson Daniel Girard, brother Ellis Poquette of Elmwood, WI, nephew Christopher Radtke, niece Chelley Radtke, special friends Carol Strenke, Connie Bradway, Denise Marcks and family, Shawn and Rosie, and many other extended family and friends. Melanie is preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters: William Poquette, Suzie Radtke, Jeffrey Poquette, infant brother Edward, and niece Tracey Radtke. Michael John Warner, age 83, a resident of Spooner, Wisconsin, died at his home on Bass Lake on November 8, 2023, following a valiant fight against Alzheimer's disease. Mike was born in Whitehall, Wisconsin, the first child of Donald and Charlotte (Anderson) Warner on April 9, 1940. As a boy of the 40's and 50's, he grew up focusing on the great outdoors- hunting, fishing, camping with the Boy Scouts, delivering papers, and setting pins at the bowling alley. He graduated from Whitehall High School in May 1958, leaving home to attend UW- Stevens Point. In 1960, Mike was off to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri for six months as a recruit in the U. S. Army Reserves, returning to Wisconsin and duty with the Army Reserves for six years. On August 4, 1962, Michael Warner married the love of his life, JoAnn Kay Carlson in Whitehall, Wisconsin. An ideal, hardworking, loving couple, they lived in a number of communities in Western Wisconsin due to Mike's work with Thorp Finance which became ITT Financial. They eventually settled in River Falls, Wisconsin, a great place to raise a family and enjoy an outdoorsman's ideal setting. They lived in River Falls for 30 years where Mikde was a founding member of the Kinnic Bass Masters Club. Like his father before him, Mike brought fish, fowl, and venison home for dinner frequently. The Warner's bought a cabin on the shores of Bass Lake, eventually building a year-round home and moving to Spooner full time. Mike is survived by his wife JoAnn, son, John Michael Warner of Eagan, MN, sister, Charlene (David Holtfreter) Warner of Eau Claire County, WI, brother, Patrick (Sherri) Warner of Whitehall, WI, sister-in-law, Julie Warner of Pigeon Falls, WI. He shared his love with his amazing nieces and nephews on both sides and his brothers and sisters-in-law. Mike is preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Karen Ann Warner, his parents, Donald and Charlotte Warner, along with his beloved brother, David C. Warner. A goodbye to Mr. Bass, aka, The Kingfisher, will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at the Lakeside Community Lutheran Church, 28626 County Road H, Webster, Wisconsin 54893. Always in the fast lane, A. J. Foat, finished the final race on Monday, November 6, 2023 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN. Anthony Joseph Foat, known to many as "A. J" or "Tony" was born on October 2, 1957 in Waukesha, WI to Scharol "Jerry" and Anna (Weyer). Spending most of his life in the Barnes area, Tony graduated from Drummond High School. At a young age, he spent time learning about cars and engines and he began racing stock cars. A. J. Foat is a name that many knew from the 80's into the early 2000's. He has many dirt track records that he still holds to this day and countless wins throughout his racing career. He loved racing on the dirt tracks and was well known for his success in Ashland, Superior and Proctor. He was self-employed in construction and was truly a jack of all trades. He was a small-town legend and sped off way too soon. He is survived by his daughters, Amanda Bounting of Hudson, WI and Deanna (Bobby) Culhane of St. Cloud, MN; his three grandchildren, Troy, Julia and Ellington; his siblings, Sherry (Bob) Paszak, Mike (Cindy) Foat, Pat (Kara) Foat, Chris (Dick) Webb, Marie (Dave) Hughes, and Barb Heintz all of Barnes, WI; and his nieces and nephews, Dan, P. J. , Melissa, Buck, Nicole, David, Deanna, Derek, Darren, Kari and Brian. In addition to his parents, Tony is preceded in death by his daughter, Mara Krysiak; his stepfather, Carl Johnson; his brothers-in-law, Dan Wilkinson and Don Heintz; and his nephew, Patrick "Spike" Wilkinson. Our dear, sweet Joanie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on September 20, 2023. On November 6, 2023, she left her home on Nelson Lake in Hayward, WI with Jesus. Joanie was preceded in death by her parents and sister Kathi Moore. She is survived by her husband, Greg, her daughter, Mary (Christian) Juarez, and sister, Wendy (Dennis) Powers. Joanie was born on October 1, 1952, in Sacramento, CA to Richard Roettger and Verla Whyte. After her father died, the family moved to Pendleton, OR to be closer to family. Upon graduation from high school, Joanie was accepted to the University of Oregon to earn her degree in nursing. After graduation, she moved to San Diego, CA to work as a newborn nurse. Later, Joanie moved to Salt Lake City, UT, and she worked in the Newborn Intensive Care Units of the University of Utah Hospital, then Primary Children's Hospital. While at Primary she held nursing and managerial positions in the NBICU. She retired in 2010. Over this time, Joanie suffered through breast cancer, chemo, multiple surgeries, and later melanoma. All without complaint. On June 16, 1984, Joanie married the love of her life, Greg Henning, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Sandy, UT. They traveled the world together, made lifelong friends, and experienced many cultures. Along the way, Joanie converted to Catholicism and became very devout. In Utah, they built a second home in Moab, UT, and enjoyed the beauty of the desert. While here, Joanie became a gifted quilter. Their first attempt at starting a family ended with a miscarriage. Later, they were blessed with their greatest joy, a baby girl, on December 7, 1987. They named her Mary, after the Blessed Mother. Mary became mother's primary caregiver in a magnificent manner after Joanie's diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. In retirement they moved to Hayward, WI, and joined St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where they were very active. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon on Friday, November 17, 2023, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 10586 Dakota Avenue, Hayward, WI. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the mass from 11:00 AM to Noon. Daniel Joseph Murphy III passed away peacefully at his farm on November 3rd, 2023 with his loving wife LaVonne, all of his children, and his dog Chief by his side. Dan was born the youngest of three children on January 3rd, 1953, at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO to Lt. Col. (Ret. ) Daniel J. Murphy II and 1st Lt. (Ret. ) Ruth Elinor Murphy. His parents' Army careers took him, his brother Brian and sister Patricia to many locations across the United States and Europe, including Fort Snelling, Fort Campbell, and Baden-Baden, Germany. The family eventually settled at Ruth's family cabin at Birch Point on Lake Vermilion in Tower, MN in 1961. Dan attended grade school in Tower until 1965 when the family moved to Duluth, MN. Dan began school at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School in 7th grade, where he met the love of his life, LaVonne. Dan graduated from Duluth Cathedral High School in 1971. After high school, Dan attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth and earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts and eventually a Master of Environmental Health and Safety. Dan married LaVonne D. Zervas in 1975 and they resided in the French River area where they built their first home together. During this time, Dan worked as a Volkswagen mechanic. After completing his schooling, Dan began a career in safety, beginning at Reserve Mining in Silver Bay, MN. This vocation later took him and his family to Four Corners, NM, Tucson, AZ, and St. Paul, MN. He ended his career close to where it all began in the Twin Ports area. Dan was a tireless advocate for construction worker safety and was recognized for his life-long effort in this field with the National Safety Council's Distinguished Service to Safety Award. Dan served on numerous boards and committees dedicated to improving workplace safety and his passion inspired all those he encountered. Dan was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. He was proud of his family and always ready to help anyone who needed it. He loved repairing machinery and problem solving on the farm, driving tractors, and spending time with his dog. Dan will be remembered for his blue eyes, big smile, warm heart, quick wit, poised demeanor, and his daily "to-do" lists. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife LaVonne, son Daniel Murphy IV (Andrea), daughter Dr. Laura Murphy (Ross Oestreich), son Timothy Murphy (Rachael), and his grandchildren: Cormac, Ronan, Gemma, Augustus, Louis, and Olivia.
