Richard Cockrum, age 94, of Afton, TN, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Durham-Hensley Health and Rehabilitation. He was a past Post Master in Greeneville with 32 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Greeneville where he had served as deacon, teacher, and interim choir director as well as sang in the choir. He was involved in local mission work with the Baptist Men of First Baptist Church and with the Southern Baptist Mission Board where he served voluntarily in Zimbabwe, Africa. He was a U S Navy veteran. He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law: Richard Cockrum, Jr. and wife Pam of North Richland Hills, TX and Michael Allen Cockrum of the home; grandchildren: Beth, Brent and Nathan Cockrum, John Olmo, Danielle Olmo, and Casey Cockrum, Eric and Michelle Henson; great grandchildren: Lauren Cockrum, Lily Cockrum, Ethan Henson, Mila Olmo, Polina Kopylova; a brother: Joe and Lois Cockrum of Talbot, TN; a sister: Mary Jane Poling of Knoxville, TN; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the son of the late John Cockrum and Maggie Rines Cockrum. He was preceded in death by his wife: Greta Cockrum; a son: Steve Cockrum; and seven brothers and one sister. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home preceding the funeral service at 6:00 pm. Rev. Dr. David Green will officiate. Interment will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be: Men of First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Baptist Men of The First Baptist Church, 211 North Main St. , Greeneville, TN 37745. Kiser-Rose Hill is in charge of arrangements. "On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, Robert F. "Bob" DeRuvo, 86, of Afton TN took the Lord's hand and began his journey home. Survivors include his loving wife of seven years, Constance "Connie" Denniston, son Anthony (Mimi) DeRuvo, daughter Elizabeth (Pat) Kelly, four adoring grandchildren: Alexandra and Anthony DeRuvo Jr, Shane and Brendan Kelly, and his beloved maltipoo Lilbit. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margaret DeRuvo, sister, Marilyn Romano and his late wife and mother of his children, Loretta DeRuvo. Bob was born in Albany, New York and during his school years Bob was active in both music and baseball. Immediately following high school, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Upon completing his military service, Bob embarked on a career with Ford Tractor that would span thirty years and lead into retirement. Bob was an avid golfer from an early age, starting as a teenage caddie at Cobleskill Country Club and ultimately retiring as a starter at Graysburg Hills. Other passions included fly fishing, enjoying the beauty of nature (especially the mountains of Tennessee), traveling and tending to his beautiful yard and flowers which was his daily \u0026quot;job\u0026quot;. He was a dedicated lifetime member of the Notre Dame Catholic Church Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge and the American Legion. Everyone who met Bob knew right away of his big heart and his infectious smile which could light up the whole room. He did everything with honesty and integrity, his handshake was his word, and he always looked for the good in everyone. Bob married the late Loretta Jean Dyer DeRuvo in May 1962. Over the ensuing forty-nine years, they were blessed with two children: Anthony Robert (Tony) and Elizabeth Anne (Betsy). They made countless friendships and lasting memories as they moved from Clifton Park, New York to Memphis, Tennessee to Rochester, Michigan and finally settling in Afton, Tennessee. In 2015, Bob and Connie met at a \u0026quot;celebration of life\u0026quot; for the mother of a mutual friend and on October 15, 2016, they became one to share and enjoy their love for the remainder of their lives. From this union Bob was gifted with an \u0026quot;extended family\u0026quot; who also loved and admired him - adult children: Colleen Averdung (TN), Craig Averdung (WY), Christine Lavelle (Jerome) (NC) and 5 more beautiful granddaughters. The family expresses a special thank you to the staff at Durham Hensley Nursing/Rehab and Amedisys Hospice for their special care during his time of need. The family will receive friends from 4 - 6 p. m. on Sunday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a. m. Monday, October 16th, at Notre Dame Catholic Church. A military graveside service will be later that afternoon at 3 p. m. at Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. The Greene County Honor Guard will convey military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or to Notre Dame Catholic Church Building Fund. John T. Gerhardt, of Afton, TN, passed away May 24, 2023 after an 18 month battle with Cholangiocarcinoma (liver bile duct cancer). He died at home with his wife, Jennifer, and his parents, Tom and Lynda Gerhardt, by his side. John was 41. John is survived by his wife, Jennifer Gerhardt of Afton, TN; their daughter, Eva of Afton, TN; his parents, Tom & Lynda Gerhardt of Glendale, AZ; his siblings, Erin (Matt) Parrack, Sophia & Natalie, of Prescott, AZ; Patrick (Stacy) Gerhardt, Haylee, Ayden & Olivia, of Bentonville, AR; his grandmother, Carolyn Harding of Clark, SD; his in-laws, Dennis & Lorraine Raczkowski of Glendale, AZ; his sisters-in-law, Christine (Brock) Domin, Avery, Elliott & Finley, of Vienna, VA, and Erin (Adrian) Retamoza & Amelia, of Phoenix, AZ; & his brother-in-law, David (Lauren) Raczkowski of Phoenix, AZ. John was born in Sioux City, IA on October 23, 1981 to Tom & Lynda (Warkenthien) Gerhardt. He attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School in Sioux City, IA, North Scott High School in Eldridge, IA, and graduated from Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, AZ in 2000. John loved sports and participated in football & track. His love of all sports continued through his adult life. John was an avid fan of the University of Notre Dame football program and the Green Bay Packers. John graduated from AZ State University in 2004 and received his MBA from the University of South Carolina in 2019. He worked for JELD-WEN, Inc. for 17 years (2001-2018). Promotions moved John and his family from Phoenix, AZ to Sacramento, CA and then to corporate offices in Charlotte, NC, where he was Associate Product Line Manager. John was then recruited to Big Ass Fans in Lexington, KY by former JELD-WEN, Inc. executives. He was Global Senior Product Manager of Large Overhead Fans & Controls from 2018-2021. John pursued his passion in the building materials industry again by joining Westlake Royal Building Products in Bristol, TN. He held the position of Director of Product and Marketing for Cellular Products division until taking medical leave in late 2022. John is predeceased by his grandparents, James L. & Jane Gerhardt and Darrel Warkenthien; his step grandfathers Harland Palmquist and Robert Harding; his aunt Barbara Ritterbush Haberman; his uncles James P. Gerhardt and David Ritterbusch; his cousins, Jimmy Gerhardt and Michael Warkenthien. John's positive attitude, infectious smile, sense of humor and character served him well. Although his life was far too short, John positively impacted so many people, including family, friends, and colleagues. He treated everyone with respect, compassion, and dignity. We have been told that one of John's greatest attributes was his ability to quickly create and sustain meaningful relationships. John, you fought your battle with such strength and grace in the spirit of a true warrior. You were such an inspiration and have earned the right to rest peacefully. A Celebration of Life was held on June 24, 2023 in Lexington, KY at BAF corporate headquarters. John's memorial service will be at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Glendale, AZ at 10:30 am on July 20, 2023.
