Richard Briley Obituary

Richard Thomas Briley, 61, of Wills Point passed away on April 21, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Richard was born in Dallas, Texas on November 3, 1961, to Rhea Bernarr Briley and Shirley Green Briley. He grew up in Wills Point, attending Wills Point Schools, graduating in 1979. Richard received his bachelor's degree in 1983, and his master's degree in 1985 from East Texas State University. Richard married the love of his life, Sandra Gayle Bradford on November 18, 1989, in Commerce, Texas. Richard was of the Methodist faith and attended College Mound Methodist Church. He was employed at Hunt County Health Department and The City of Garland Health Department where he retired on June 30, 2017. He was an Elton John Enthusiast and enjoyed reading and gardening. He had a cattle business raising Simmental cattle. Richard was a Professional Registered Sanitarian with the State of Texas and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Sanitarians. He was a member of the Lab Safety Committee at A&M Commerce, a first responder, and a member of the Cattle Raisers association. He was also an active and a longtime member of the Texas Environmental Health Association and the Texas Association of Municipal Health Officials. Richard is preceded in death by his mother and father, and brother Robert Briley. He leaves behind his wife, Sandra Gayle Bradford Briley, two daughters Lacey Renee Briley and Chelsea Nicole Briley, one brother Ron Briley and wife Jeri, one sister-in-law Nelda Briley, and nephews, Beau and Chris Briley. Services will be held at Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 11:00. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home. A private interment will be at Mesquite City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to the Van Zandt County Library located in Canton, Texas
