Richard Joseph Boye, 90, of Menominee, MI passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born in Menominee, MI on March 6, 1933 to the late George and Gladys (Johnvin) Boye. He graduated from Menominee High School class of 1951. Richard married the former Shirley Cummings on September 4, 1954 at Epiphany Catholic Church in Menominee. They were married over 61 years before she preceded him in death on July 25, 2016. He was a member of Resurrection Parish in Menominee. Richard dedicated 42 years of honorable service to his country in the U. S. Army, from 1951 to 1993. He retired as a Command Sergeant Major. He received The Legion of Merit Award. He also was a founding member of the local Military 20 Year Club, proudly preforming military honors to fallen veterans until just recently. Richard also belonged to the Auxiliary Police Department and the Menominee American Legion. His work history included Sales Manager, Stone Mason, Insurance Sales, a Journeyman Pattern Maker (Prescott/Giddings & Lewis) and Foundry Superintendent (L. E. Jones)Richard is survived by six children, Ricky (Maria) Boye, MaryAnn (Tom) Van Gaal, Daniel (Mary Jo) Boye, David (Corrie) Boye, Judy (Chris) Lemke, and Janet (Perry) Woods, 15 grandchildren including, Nicole (Scott) Bal, Amber Boye, Tia (Justin) Walk, and Tyler (Cassie) Boye, Katie (Jordan) Miller, and Tommy (fiance Amberly Summ) Van Gaal, Alec (Catherine) Boye, and Adam (fiance Brinnan Wilson) Boye, Eric (Kimberly) Boye and Brian Boye, Nolan and Landon Lemke, Aaron and Ryan Woods and Jennifer (Tom) Hilbert, 10 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Nolan, Julia, and Braedan Bal, Dani Boye, Jackson Benedict and Lawson Miller, Harper Walk and a baby on the way, Annabelle and Eloise Boye, two great-great grandchildren Jaxon and Gianna Bal, his brother Roger (Diane) Boye, a sister-in-law Nancy Lukszys and other family and friends. His wife, parents and two sisters, Beverly Gibour and Shirley Wentz, preceded him in death. Although he accomplished so much during his lifetime, nothing brought him more joy than his 61 years of marriage to Shirley and the family they built together. His family was his pride and joy and he beamed anytime he spoke about his children or grandchildren. Richard's impact on both the country he proudly served, and the people he loved so dearly is immeasurable, but will forever be felt by those who were fortunate enough to know him. His family will miss him dearly but take comfort knowing he is rejoined with his wife Shirley in Heaven. Visitation will be held at the Cadieu Funeral Home on Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 1pm until the time of prayer services at 3pm with Deacon Bob Kostka presiding. Military honors will immediately follow. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee, MI. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Richard's name.
