"I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun; Of happy memories that I leave when life is done."

Henrietta M. Cutler

Mar 08, 1929 - Feb 18, 2024

location-icon

Tampa, FL

Henrietta M. Cutler, age 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024. She was born on March 8, 1929, in New York to first generation immigrant parents Henry and Bertha (Hozak) Mielke. She grew up a city girl through and through and loved every minute of it. In her twenties, Henrietta, more often known fondly as “Micki,” worked as a merchandiser for Macmillan Publishers. She married her beau, Bernard Robert Cutler, in November of 1950. Throughout her thirties, Micki raised three children and worked part time to help support the household while Bernard worked days and took college courses in the evenings. During this time, she was the consummate Mom: ferrying kids to music and dance lessons, serving as a girl scout leader, and joining various school committees. In her early forties, Bernard passed away (January 1976). Despite this sudden loss, she continued to care for her family while also stepping into a new role as the director of environmental services at a local retreat for children with disabilities. Micki enjoyed this new position and had a knack for working with children. She worked at the retreat up until retirement at 68, after which she moved to Tampa, Florida. Even having formally retired, Henrietta continued to work with children as a part of a Hillsborough County After School Program, called HOST until the age of 87, at Canella Elementary. Micki loved to read. She was voracious, going through several books weekly. She loved to travel and eat delicious food, Italian being her favorite. This wise woman loved her carbs! She loved on her friends, her family and her grandchildren, as well as her favorite tiny adopted chiweenie dog named “little man”. Micki’s entire life was a shining example of love, strength, compassion, and kindness. She is survived by her eldest child Martin Cutler, his wife Lisa and their daughter Madisen, her eldest daughter, Alison Briars, her husband Brian, and their four children: Sean Walsh and his wife, Victoria; Ryan Walsh and his wife, Anna; Shelly Baker and her husband, Cedric and their two children Brooklyn and Kerri; and Justin Briars and his wife, Kaitlin. Her youngest daughter, Susan Johnson and her husband, Joshua. As well as her granddaughter Jacqueline Lee. Please join us, each in your own way, in celebrating Micki and a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, Micki preferred you donate to a cause or charity of your choice in her name. Thank You. To view Micki’s remembrance page please follow link:
