Age - 79
September 12, 2023
Alamosa, CO
Revere Eugene Berryman was born on March 1, 1944 to Revere Alden Berryman and Wilma Edith Locey Berryman. He was the middle child with 2 older siblings Don and Larry, and 2 younger siblings Linda and Wyllie. He was raised in Mosca, CO and graduated from Sangre De Cristo High School in May of 1962. After graduation he joined the Army and was relieved of active duty three years later in June of 1965. He continued with Army reserves for another three years and was honorably discharged in June of 1968. On November 7, 1970 Gene married Nancy Rae Glynn and in December of 1971 they welcomed their first daughter, Shannon. In June of 1976 they adopted their second child, a son, Cody. They raised their children "in town" in Alamosa until 1983 when they purchased property from Nancy's parents ten miles south of Alamosa. Gene affectionately dubbed their new place "El Rancho No Gotte" and had a sign made with that name to hang above the gate entering the property. He also proudly wore hats with the same title. Gene worked for Public Service, most of that time being spent working as a meter reader. He would occasionally have stories of being bitten by a dog or finding interesting odds and ends as he fulfilled the duties of going house to house reading meters. He retired in 2010 after over 30 years of service to the company. Gene loved to hunt and to reload shells for his hunting trips. He also enjoyed going on guided mule packing trips and would take them yearly after he retired. He would attend "Mule Days" celebrations across Colorado and Wyoming. He loved animals, especially his dog, and would feed the wild cats that showed up around his house. He would make weekly visits to Shannon's house for supper and loved that time spent with his grandkids. In 2022 he sold all of his belongings, bought an RV camper and moved to Arizona to enjoy the health benefits of living in a warmer climate and lower elevation. He lived there for seven months before moving to Texas to be closer to his son Cody. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wyllie and Larry, sister Linda (Serve) and grandson Ty Wyatt Berryman. He is survived by his brother Donald, children Shannon (Kirk) Jarvies and Cody Berryman, and grandchildren Douglas (Kortney) Jarvies, Alyssa (Brock) Miller, KC (Ireland) Jarvies, Rebekah (Wylan) DePriest, Amanda Jarvies, Sean Jarvies and Janie Crowther and six great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Monday, September 18 at Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa starting at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the Speiser Cemetery in Hooper. Rogers Family Mortuary is in care of the arrangements. To leave online condolences, tributes and words of comfort for Gene's family, please visit www. RogersFunerals. com
