Renate ReifBorn in Bonn, Germany on July 14, 1935, passed away peacefully at Suburban Hospital on June 18th, 2022. Renate is survived by her three children, Michael Reif, Andreas Reif, and Christiane Langman, their spouses Lynn Reif and David Langman and her many grandchildren, Erika, Andreas J. , Hannah, Rebekah, Shoshanna, Wesley, Josiah, and Christiana. Renate has been a long time Bethesda resident. She and her husband Guenter and three children moved from Germany to Bethesda in 1966. Guenter was employed by the World Bank but sadly predeceased her in 1994. Renate was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she enjoyed Bible Study, the Katies Ladies Group and singing her favorite hymns during service. She was also committed to local charitable programs such as the Manna Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army and Hospice Care. In the last years, Renate spent many hours enjoying the beautiful flowers and landscapes at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton throughout all seasons. She was so appreciative of the team of volunteers who spent endless hours tending to the gardens which brought her so much joy and solace, particularly as she struggled through her illnesses. A memorial service for Renate Reif will take place this Thursday, June 23rd, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church (7730 Bradley Blvd. , Bethesda) at 11am. In lieu of flowers, Renate would appreciate donations in her name to Habitat for Humanity, the Manna Food Bank at Emmanuel Lutheran or the Salvation Army.
