On November 26, 2023, Callie Mae Knight departed this life peacefully at home and her spirit returned to her Creator. "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. " (2 Corinthians 5:8) She was born on May 3, 1926 to the late Thomas Lee and Esther Byrd Lee in Andalusia, AL. The family eventually moved to Prichard, AL. Callie graduated from Cedar Grove Academy, accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, and became a lifelong member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church where she served as an usher until her health failed. At home, she was often observed reading her Bible, praying, and watching Christian television. Callie married Otis William Knight and lived in Mobile where she was a lifelong resident. She was a great wife and mother of eight children. She made a wonderful home for her family. Known for her quiet, reserved, sweet demeanor, Callie was also fun-loving and fond of hosting family gatherings. She enjoyed cooking, delicious meals and baking desserts for her family. She experienced tremendous joy when surrounded by family. Christmas was her favorite time of the year. She would decorate her house inside and out with little or no assistance. Callie was attentive to fitness and nutrition. However, she loved eating sweets and snacks, which she called "foolishness". She was an avid reader, seamstress, and gardener. She had great fashion sense and would've been a terrific stylist for others. She loved music and would invite us over to watch her Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC's, Aaron Neville, Michael Jackson, and Prince videos. Callie had the biggest heart and was so generous with her time, talents, and finances. She often contributed to charities and helped fundraise for the American Heart Association, March of Dimes, and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She was a Salvation Army Angel Tree volunteer until her health failed. After becoming an empty-nester, Callie worked as a caregiver/sitter for the elderly and children. She aspired to become a nurse but never realized that goal. Callie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Otis, Ruben, Howard, Thomas, and MacDonald Lee, sisters Willie Hale, Minnie Jordan, and Esther Jones, and Thomas Knight (Infant Child).
