John "Jimmy" James Presley Black, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024 at Courtland Terrace in Gastonia. He was born on November 20, 1943, in Gaston County to the late John and Fannie Black.Jimmy's life was a beautiful harmony of joy and laughter. Known for his love of singing and listening to gospel music, he found solace in the melodies that touched his soul. His kind heart led him to regularly visit nursing homes, where he generously shared his time with the residents, singing and bringing comfort and companionship to those who needed it most.A true jokester at heart, Jimmy had an infectious laugh that could brighten even the gloomiest of days. Making people laugh brought him immense joy, and he would go out of his way to bring smiles to the faces of others. His playful spirit will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.Jimmy's talents extended beyond humor. He excelled in various sports and took pleasure both as a player and coach. He played and coached volleyball, softball, and tennis with great enthusiasm and dedication. His commitment paid off as he proudly led the teams to three League Softball Championships throughout his sporting journey. He was also an avid league bowler.Jimmy had a true unwavering faith in God. A member of Grace Baptist Church in Cornelia, GA, he shared a deep love for the Lord and tirelessly spread the gospel message of Jesus Christ. You could often find Jimmy in the parking lot of Walmart in Cornelius handing out gospel tracks with boundless compassion. Jimmy truly embodied the spirit of a servant of God.Family meant everything to Jimmy, and he cherished each moment creating precious memories with them. He adored his grandchildren and played an active role in their lives. Whether spending quality time together or taking them on adventures to feed the ducks, Jimmy's presence made every moment truly special.In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Black, in 2002, and his sister, Francis Medford. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever echo in the hearts of those he touched.Jimmy is survived by his children, Regina Pressley (Joe), Lisa Turner (Richard), Pastor Steve Black (Linda), and Leah Messer (Larry); his sister, Joyce Lingerfelt; and Helen Skelton, Jimmy's devoted companion of 19 years and brought immeasurable happiness to his life. His memory will be carried on by nine grandchildren: Amber, Stephanie, Jamie, Ben, Ryan, Chris, Nick, Lauren, and Taylor. Additionally, he leaves behind nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren who will cherish their time spent with their loving great-grandfather.A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Maranatha Baptist Church located at 104 Downey Lake Rd in Dallas. Danny was known for his love of electronics, computers, and games. An avid Star Trek fan, Danny collected Star Trek memorabilia and also cherished his dirt bike riding adventures in his spare time. Danny was most proud of his grandchildren whom he adored dearly. He will be remembered for his kind heart and unwavering love for his family.Danny is preceded in death by his wife, Karen Owens in 2021, and his brother, Jeff Rice. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories to be carried on by his surviving family members.Survivors include his sons, Danny Owens II (Alicia) and Jameslee Owens (fiance, Brianna); sister, Colleen Rice; brothers, Terry Rice and David Rice; six grandchildren, Michael, Noah, Lexi, Jamison, Lily, and Caleb; as well as several nieces and nephews.Danny D. She was born January 13, 1957 in Flint, Michigan to the late Jimmy Arthurs and Shirley Lail Brittain.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 5 year old brother, Todd Arthurs; and her husband, Timothy McGinnis.Survivors include her daughters, Mindy Dyson, Stevie Hoyle, and Whitney McGinnis; brothers, Doug Arthurs (Janet), Dan Arthurs, and Spunk Arthurs; eight grandchildren; and long-term friend and companion, Douglas Neill.As the only girl in a family of boys, Tracy was devoted to her family including the care of her mother while undergoing treatment for cancer. She enjoyed vacations and spending time at home with her family. She was fun-loving with a witty sense of humor and always accepting of others. She was a great cook and dearly loved her animal companions. A Celebration of Life Service will be held later this summer on Saturday, August 17, 2024. She loved yelling BINGO on any given weekend. She worked 10+ years at R.A. Serafini but her greatest joy was the time she spent as a stay-at-home mom.She was preceded in death by her Mother Margaret Stone, Sister Jean Holland and Granddaughter Alissa Revels.Lisa is survived by her loving husband of 42 years Jack Adair, her 5 children who she cherished; Randy Revels, Jenny Long (Derrick), Brittany Adair (Ray), Phillip Adair (Kim), Jacob Adair and 18 grandchildren who were the absolute light of her life.A service celebrating her life will be held on Friday March 1st, 2024, at 1pm. DATELINE: KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA Mary Ellen Davis Mary Ellen Davis, 92, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on February 25, 2024 at Peak Resources in Gastonia, NC. She was born in Cleveland County, NC, daughter of the late Clarence and Thelma Ross Watterson and was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Norman Davis and her sister, Valiree W. Carroll. Mary Ellen retired from Kings Mountain District Schools while serving in the cafeteria. She was a longtime member of Kings Mountain Baptist Church. She loved visiting and taking church groups to South Mountain Baptist Camp every year for 50 years. Mary Ellen enjoyed fishing with Norman, sewing, and growing beautiful flowers. However, she was always happiest when she was near her family. She always placed them at the center of her life. Mary Ellen was never seen when she was not smiling and always had a joyful and uplifting spirit. She was a wonderful mother, friend, and grandmother to several generations of grandchildren. "Kenneth Edward Griffith, age 83 of Gastonia North Carolina. passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at his home following an extended illness. Kenneth was born July 5, 1940, in Richlands, Virginia, and was the son of the late Clyde Griffith Sr., and Veta Goforth Griffith. Kenneth graduated from Richlands High School in 1958. He received a B.S. degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, a master’s degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, and was granted a teaching fellowship from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., while enrolled in a doctoral program. Kenneth accepted the position of Associate Professor at the University of Richmond and later held a similar position at the College of Charleston, in Charleston, S.C. He changed his career goals and entered the Human Resources field and was appointed Director of Employee Relations at Brookwood Hospital in Homewood Alabama. He also served as Assistant Director of Human Resources at Barnes Hospital in St. Louise, MO, and later retired from the Group Health Association in Washington, D.C. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde Griffith, Jr. Those that survive him are his: Wife, Beulah Carole Meadows Griffith of Gastonia, N.C.
