Raymond J. Laursen of Fairgrove, age 88, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Brian's House in Hampton Twp. Ray was born December 20, 1934 in Detroit, the son of the late Ray and Gladys (Brady) Laursen. He graduated from Fairgrove High School with the class of 1953 and went on to serve in the U. S. Army as a tank mechanic during the Korean War. Upon returning home, Ray happened to meet the former, Sharon K. Ackerman in Caseville. It was love at first sight and were united in marriage on September 28, 1957. Their marriage was blessed with sixty-six years, four children, and countless memories. Ray worked on the family farm, sold DeKalb Corn, and was the Fairgrove Twp. Treasurer for over forty years. He was a dedicated member of the Caro First Baptist Church and a devout Christian, studying his bible diligently every day. Ray loved his faith and was an active prayer warrior. He enjoyed travelling all over the United States, camping, and time spent in Florida. Ray adored his grandchildren, making sure to never miss a sporting event and could always be caught sneaking his granddogs treats. Above all else, Ray loved being with his family, they were the lights of his life. His faith and love will be missed for generations to come. Ray leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Sharon; children, Debra (Rich) Haebler, Diane Coronado, Laura (Tim) Mowry, and Brent (Stacey) Laursen; grandchildren, Jensen (Tabitha), Matt (Talia), Jennifer (Jay), Kayla (Grant), Rachel (Steve), Brianne, Jacob, Nathan, Joel, Abbie, and Noah; many great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Barbara) Laursen; brother-in-law, Scott (Beth) Ackerman; sister-in-law, Charlotte Ackerman; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dave and Emma Ackerman; son-in-law, David Coronado; brothers-in-law, David Ackerman and Ed Ackerman. A private family funeral will be held and burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove. Joann Ruth Tomlinson of Caro, age 93, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at McLaren Bay Region. Joann was born July 14, 1930 in Caro, the daughter of the late Reid and Ruth (Joslin) Thurston. She graduated from Caro High School and later went on to work at Schall Elementary School as Secretary for thirty-two years. Joann met Robert Tomlinson and they were married on December 15, 1948. They were blessed with forty-nine years of marriage and many cherished memories. She was a dedicated member of the Caro United Methodist Church. Throughout life, Joann enjoyed her flowers, playing cards with friends, crocheting, knitting, NASCAR, but most important to her were her family and friends. Living at Heritage Hill, they always said she had more visitors than anybody they had ever seen, which was a testament to the kind and loving woman she was. Joann appreciated each and every phone call and visit. Her legacy is one of faith, friendship, and love. Joann leaves behind cherished memories with all who knew her. Albert "Al" Harris, Jr. of Caro, age 65, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, November 27, 2023. Albert was born July 27, 1958 in Flint, the son of the late Albert, Sr. and Anna (Kowalski) Harris. Albert began working for the State of Michigan in 1979, eventually transferring to the Caro Center in 1989. He retired on January 31, 2018, after nearly forty years of dedicated service as a resident care aide for the facility. On October 3, 1997, Albert married the former Betty Yax at the courthouse in Caro and the couple cherished over twenty-six years of marriage. Albert's life was a melody composed of his love for music, a fervor for baseball, and the tranquility found in gardening. His collections of baseball cards were a testament to his love of the sport, and the flowers adorning his yard were evidence of his green thumb. When he wasn't watching baseball or gardening, Albert entertained himself with video games such as Bejeweled Blitz and Farmville. Above all, Albert's greatest joy came from time spent with his family. Whether it was taking long drives through the country or singing karaoke together, his love for his family shown bright and he will be missed for years to come. Left to cherish Albert's memory are wife, Betty Harris of Caro; four children, Jackie Harris of Millington, Amy Barrons and her husband, Chris, Ryan Harris, and Jayla Hypes, all of Caro; four siblings and their spouses, Alberta & Fred Hess of Caro, Rosetta & Jim Abbott of Birch Run, Sharon Case of Tennessee, twin brother, Delbert & Pam Harris of Reese; and too many nieces, nephews, and cousins to count. Eugenia "Gena" Lurine Specht, age 73, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 24, 2023 after a courageous battle with ALS. Gena was born October 19, 1950 in Flint, the daughter of the late Eugene and Lola (Marshall) Lerche. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School and in 1968 she married John Specht, sharing fifty-five years together. Gena went on to work as a health aide for St. Luke's/Covenant Health Care for over forty-seven years before her retirement in December 2015. In her spare time, she enjoyed camping with her family and loved to watch the Hallmark Channel. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Bridgeport and adored her church family. Throughout her life, Gena maintained an unwavering devotion to the Lord and her family. Her most cherished role was being "Grammy" to her grandchildren, who she considered her greatest blessing and the light of her life. Gena was a devoted spouse, a loving parent, and a cherished friend. Her legacy is one of faith, love, and kindness. Gena leaves behind cherished memories and lessons in faith for all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Gena is survived by her loving husband, John Specht; beloved daughter and best friend, Melody & Kyle Sutton, and their daughters, Iris & MacKenzie; daughter, Paula Crouch and her children, Kelly Hoard and Alex Crouch; son, Bill Thompson; cousins, who were more like siblings, Doreen & Sterling Huffman and Dale & Betty Lewis; special niece, Amy & Andy Pringle; special nephew, Eugene Nicks; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Michael William Bauer of Auburn Hills, formerly of Caro, age 55, passed away unexpectedly on November 22, 2023 at his home. Mike was born July 16, 1968 in Flint, the son of Gerald and Barbara (Press) Bauer. He graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1986 and went on to attend Central Michigan University and Delta College. Mike worked as a cost accountant at Oerlikon for many years and was a member of his condo association. He was always known for helping his neighbors and lending a hand in any project they were completing. Mike enjoyed being outdoors and tending to his yard. He loved to watch any sport on TV and was a die-hard University of Michigan fan. Mike adored house-sitting his best furry companion, Delta, and cherished time spent with his family. Mike is survived by his father, Gerald Bauer; sisters, Terry Stoveken and Tina (Rick) Enos; and nieces and nephews, Douglas Bauer, Cole Stoveken, and Ericca Bauer. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara. Ronald "Borody" James Borodychuk of Caro, age 73, passed away suddenly on the morning of Friday, November 24, 2023 at his home. Borody was born March 25, 1950 in Cass City, the son of the late Alexander and Evelyn (Hool) Borodychuk. He attended Unionville High School and graduated with the class of 1968. Borody worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years at Mean Industries, Inc. in Vassar, Michigan Sugar Company, and La Buddy. He finished his working career at the age of sixty-seven, working as a CNA for Fisher Senior Care & Rehab Center. On August 23, 1980, Borody married the love of his life, the former Linsey Dee Karpovich on her family homestead in Watrousville. Borody was very active; he was a 4-H Leader, a former FFA member, the former Vice President for Tuscola County Normal, and a member of the Michigan Dairy Goat Association for over forty years. He loved his time spent in the garden, tending to his small livestock farm, and most recently he could be found foraging for herbs, flowers, and berries to make different tinctures and medicinal remedies. Borody was a big family man and absolutely adored his wife Linsey, his children, and grandchildren. Borody leaves to carry on his legacy, his loving wife of forty-three years, Linsey; children, Shannon (Justin Ill) Borodychuk of Watrousville, DeeDee Borodychuk of Wasilla, Alaska, and Zandy Borodychuk of Fairgrove; grandchildren, Landon and Leyton Borodychuk-Cherniaski, Madison Haddeling, Zadi Borodychuk, Jade, Ruby, and Onyx Spohn, Cole Theaker, Finn and Aryx Borodychuk; great-grandchildren, Grey Theaker and one on the way; beloved dogs, Guya and Heyu; siblings, Kerry & Linda Borodychuk, Leatha Cudworth, Janet Robarge, Diane Mathis, and Shelly & Kevin Youngert; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Alice Eldora Campbell of Caro, age 90, passed away on the morning of Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper. Alice was born September 24, 1933 in Owendale, the daughter of the late Edward and Hannah (Forestner) Schulz. She graduated from Owendale High School and went on to work at Caro Regional Center for over thirty years as a housekeeper. Alice and David Campbell crossed paths on the dance floor and their connection quickly blossomed into love, and the couple was married on December 9, 1967. They were blessed with over fifty-five years and many cherished memories. Alice was a devout Christian and a dedicated member of the Caro Assembly of God Church. She taught Sunday school for many years and absolutely adored her Sunday school children. Throughout life Alice enjoyed camping, bike riding, and bowling. She was wonderful at knitting and made many gifts for her grandchildren. Alice leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, David; children & their spouses, Sandra & Tim Holmes, Donny & Karen Martin, Norma & Dan Abbott, Randy & Patty Martin, and Tom & Shallen Campbell; sixteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Maeda Nixon; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Ray was born October 27, 1940 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of the late Michael DeFrates and Wanda (Maxwell) DeFrates. His journey into the world of business and amusement began as a passion, evolving into a remarkable career where he became known for his incredible ability to entertain and amaze. As a clever businessman, Ray had a vision that transcended the ordinary. His ventures in the amusement industry were marked by creativity, innovation, and a commitment to delivering fun experiences. Ray's ability to bring joy and laughter through his unique talent was a testament to his charisma and showmanship. It was at the fair Ray happened to meet the love of his life, Ann. Their love knew no boundaries, and their devotion to each other was an enduring testament to the depth of their connection. Beyond his professional endeavors, Ray was a true gentleman--a beacon of class, dignity, and kindness. He never met a stranger, and his interactions with others were marked by genuine warmth and respect. Ray had a knack for woodworking and carpentry; his hand-crafted pieces were a testament to his meticulous craftsmanship and artistic vision. He loved to tend to the animals and farm he and Ann built together, that they fondly referred to as "The Ranch. " Ray enjoyed riding around on his tractor, playing with his dogs, and collecting the chicken eggs each day. Above all else, his family was the center of his universe; he shared a special bond with his daughter, Dawnie and her family. Ray's unwavering dedication and sacrifices were proof of his love and commitment. He approached every decision, every action with the well-being and happiness of his family at the forefront of his mind. Marilyn Ruth Sylvester of Caro, age 78, a devoted child of God, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023, following a lengthy illness. She was born September 14, 1945, in Pigeon, the daughter of the late Clare and Lena Volz. She went on to marry George Sylvester and he preceded her in death. Marilyn enjoyed sewing, creating handmade greeting cards and floral arrangements, gardening, canning, hunting and soap operas. She was especially fond of Dark Shadows' character, Barnabus Collins. Marilyn often chose red, white and blue in her clothing and decorating to express her patriotism. She deeply loved her daughter and grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Marlene (Stephen) Forbes; two granddaughters, Megan (S. Matthew) Franklin, and Kendra Walker, all of Caro. She proudly referred to herself as "Grandma the Great" to Madalyn and Emma Franklin. Marilyn is also survived by two brothers, Wallace Volz and Dale (Lisa) Volz of Sebewaing. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Clare; and brother, Melvin Volz; as well as Melvin Spencer, her partner of twenty-six years. A graveside service for family and friends will take place on Friday, November 24, 2023, at 11:00 a. m. at the Ellington Township Cemetery with Rev. Cameron Steele officiating.
