"Ran Thi Pham, 88, formerly of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Regency Nursing Home in Canton, Michigan. She was born January 1, 1935 in Hai Phong, Vietnam to the late Phong Pham and Ben Thi Bui. Ran was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church for many years and most recently of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith praying the Rosary regularly and she enjoyed walking to church. Ran liked to volunteer by sharing her talent of cooking every year for the church socials to help raise funds for many church activities. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, and especially loved cooking for her family and friends. Ran is survived by her son, Phillip and his wife Ly Bui, daughters, Chung and her husband Moi To, Sao and her husband Robert Fleming, Chien Minning and Loan and her husband Richard Gordon; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Ran was preceded in death by her husband, Giang John V. Bui; and son, Duy Bui. Visitation will be from 1:00 p. m. to 5:00 p. m. Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave. , Evansville. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a. m. to 10:00 a. m. Monday, September 25, 2023 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2301 N. Stockwell Rd. , Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a. m. at the church with Father Zach Etienne officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2301 N. Stockwell Rd. , Evansville, IN 47715. Judith Marie Volker, age 83, of Canton, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Loving mother of Cindy (Rick) Trzcinski, Chip (Colleen) Mach Jr. , and Holly (Chad Cohen) Mach. Beloved grandma of Jordan (Kristin) Blanchard, Whitney (Andy) Hess, James Mach III, Austin (Elyse) Mach, Abbey (Jarek) VanOrder, Camden Anderson, Machlain Anderson, and Caroline Cohen. Proud GG of Duncan, Charlie, Stevie, and Sunny Hess, Violet Graham VanOrder (in honor of "Graham Cracker"), and Abby Deuby. Dear sister of Peggy (Larry) Booher and Fred (Christy) Lang. She will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Judith was preceded in death by husbands James Mach and Charles Volker, parents Fred and Edna Lang, and sister Carol LaLonde. Judy had many talents. She was a hairdresser, flower arranger, cake decorator, quilter, painter, seamstress, and cook. She made the best roast ever and her family often requested her strawberry parfait pies and black-bottom cupcakes. She was known as "Grandma Doolittle" for her love of animals. Music was magic to her even until the end, she was able to recall lyrics and sing along to her favorite songs. Most importantly, she loved her family so much and cared for everyone. A memorial gathering will be held Tuesday, December 5, from 11:30am-5:30pm at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd. , Livonia, MI 48152, with a memorial service beginning at 5:30pm. Carolyn Margaret Kolte Pels, 84, of San Jose, California, and Canton, Michigan, passed away after a brief illness on November 26, 2023, in Canton, Michigan. Carolyn was born August 6, 1939, to Ivan and Marion Kolte in San Jose, California. After Carolyn graduated from Campbell High School, she attended San Jose State University (College). While attending college, Carolyn met her future husband Richard Heskins Pels of San Francisco. After marrying Richard, they moved to San Francisco to raise their children, Julie and David. Carolyn's family moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, so Richard could finish school at New Mexico State University. After Richard's graduation, the family moved back to the Bay Area settling in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose. Sadly, Carolyn was widowed after almost 30 years, and she remained in the family home for 50 years before relocating to Michigan. Carolyn had a long professional career and retired from Bank of America after more than 25 years of service and then from Kaiser Permanente after 15 years. Although Carolyn retired from working, she never retired from her passion of raising her kids and focusing on her extended family and close friends. She was a hardworking, fair minded, loving, and engaging woman who celebrated life, knew who she was, and ALWAYS lived life on her own terms. She was a force of nature. Carolyn was predeceased by her husband Richard, mother Marion and father Ivan Kolte, brother Dick Kolte, sister Kathie Kolte Yaggi, mother-in-law Gertrude Pels Teale, father-in-law Lionel Pels, and brother-in-law Barry Pearsall. Carolyn is survived by her daughter Julie Pels (John) Neilson, son David (Daniel) Pels-O'Neill, grandchildren Katie Neilson (Robert) Graham, and Laura Neilson (Nick) Molencupp, great granddaughter Alexandra Molencupp, sisters Nancy Kolte (Don) Leach, Arlene Kolte Smith-Pearsall, Janis Kolte, sister-in-law Judy Pels (Bryan) Saasta, Nancy Kolte, and brother-in-law Larry Yaggi. Carolyn had many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Carolyn will be remembered for her yummy bouillon rice, macaroni and cheese, and her cups of coffee! Carolyn will be interred with Richard at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Carole Naomi Hansen, age 81, of Canton, Mi passed away on November 29, 2023 atAngela Hospice in Livonia, Mi. Carole was born on March 23, 1942 to Richard and Glenna Kaiser who resided inWayne, Mi. She attended Plymouth schools and married her high school sweetheart. Loren's family and Carole's family both attended First Baptist Church of Wayne. Carolehad mentioned that she had first noticed Loren in middle school, but they started datingwhen she was 16 after Loren was invited to her 16th birthday party. The rest is history. Loren and Carole were married at the Martha Mary Chapel at Greenfield Village in thewinter of 1959. They honeymooned in Florida and soon after began their family. Sherriewas born in March of 1961. Susan soon followed in May of 1962. Sheila was born inJune of 1966, with Loren (Sonny) in the spring of 1968. After the children were in school, Carole worked a couple of retail jobs until she wasneeded to run the office at their family owned business, Standard Printing Company. Carole enjoyed antiques and decorating their beautiful home. She loved her family andchurch friends. She also enjoyed hosting parties at her home. One love of both her andLoren was camping and traveling. They explored many areas around the world andespecially enjoyed going on cruises. They even took the whole family on two cruises -one for their 50th anniversary and the other was a Disney Cruise that the grandchildrenjust loved. Carole is preceded in death by her favorite grandma, Naomi Bigler, with whom she hada special relationship. She is also preceded in death by her loving parents, Richard andGlenna Kaiser, and her granddaughter, Jill LaRocque. She is survived by her loving husband, Loren, and four children, Sherrie (Dave) Snyderof Livonia, Sue LaRocque of Manchester, Sheila (Barry) Meyer of Milan, and Loren(Susan) Hansen of Grand Rapids. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 11great grandchildren, and her brother Lynn Kaiser. On Tuesday, November 21, 2023, Rose Merenda "Living Doll" Price of Canton, MI, peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to her eternal home. She was born in Martinsville, VA on February 28, 1964, to Buford Roland Price, Sr. and Rosabell Hairston Price. Those that preceded Rose in death, in addition to her parents were her older brothers, Buford R. Price, Jr. , Bernard Price, and Pastor Mark E. Price, Sr. Rose was a lifelong member of Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church and attended until she moved out of town. Family members left to cherish her memory are two sons, Christopher (Jernelle) Martin of Canton, MI, and Ryan (Christina) Martin of Detroit, MI; three sisters, Brenda Yellock, Tarama (Odell) Lynch, and Verdale (Danny) Wright all of Martinsville, VA; one brother, Joe Baxter (Priscilla) Price of South Boston, VA; seven grandchildren, Makiah Martin, R. J. Stockton, Maryiah Martin, Christian Martin, Zachery Martin, Kaitlyn Martin, and Krstana Draypon; one aunt, Sarah Craighead of Martinsville, VA; one uncle, James Price of Augusta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11 a. m. at Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church, 929 Bethel Ln. , Martinsville, VA. The burial will be private. Charles (Chuck) A. Powers, of Canton, Michigan, passed away on November 17, 2023. Chuck was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to the late Grace and Paul Powers. Chuck is survived by his wife Alice Powers, his two daughters Kimberly Ives and Cyndy (Walt) Loomis, and three grandchildren Michael Ives, Allison (Josiah) Bonewell, and John Loomis. Chuck is survived by his two brothers Phil (Marguerite) Powers and Stan (Diane) Powers and sister-in-law Diane (Leroy) Anderson. He is preceded in death by his sisters Helen (Ron) Teel and Lovella (Al) Akagi and brother Harold (Charlotte) Powers. Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family and was so proud of his two daughters and three grandchildren. Chuck was instrumental in promoting their independence, love of traveling, obtaining a good education, and tackling challenges presented to them. Chuck's interests included enjoying nature by camping, hiking, traveling to many state/national parks and attending 60+ Road Scholar programs nationally and internationally. He enjoyed reading nonfiction books from the Canton Public Library, playing board games and cards, disc golfing as well as lawn and beach croquet. He loved being with the grandchildren and telling "Sloppy Joe" stories to them at bedtime. To them he was affectionately known as the "Jokester". While young, Chuck lived on a farm in Illinois with his parents and five siblings. He married Alice Anderson in Quincy, Illinois on August 21, 1960, and they celebrated their 63rd anniversary this year. In Illinois Chuck taught physics, chemistry, and math at Media and Peoria high schools. When they moved to Shabbona, Illinois, Chuck taught physics for 28 years at Kishwaukee College near DeKalb. On occasion, Chuck would teach unique courses such as Solar Energy (1980s). They lived on a 9-acre farmette where he had an extensive vegetable garden, fruit trees, and a flock of sheep with lambs. He and Alice liked to enjoy nature while walking and cross-country skiing at the Shabbona State Park and Shabbona Forest Preserve. In 1999, Chuck and Alice moved to the Links of Pheasant Run in Canton, Michigan. In the early years at the Links, he was a part of a group who volunteered to do outdoors projects at the complex. He was instrumental in getting the Canton Township to plant wildflowers and other vegetation around the township pond to help prevent erosion of the banks and discourage geese from entering the yards. In the spring, he would don his hip boots and collect the trash in and around the pond. He and Alice frequently walked around the complex as well as to the library and Heritage Park. Chuck enjoyed living at the Links and spent many hours looking out the kitchen door windows at the birds, animals, and the changing seasonal scenery. He loved living at the Links and was liked and respected by his friends and neighbors. Visitation will be held at the L. J. Griffin Funeral Home, located at 42600 Ford Road in Canton on Tuesday, November 28 at 10:00 a. m. followed by a "Celebration of Life" service at 11:00 a. m.
