Ernest Johnson Sr. transitioned from this life to his heavenly home on February 20, 2024, at the age of eighty-two. He was born to the union of the late Jack Johnson and the late Alberta Harris Johnson in Houma, Louisiana and was a resident of Harvey, Louisiana. He was educated in the Houma School System and graduated from South Down High School. He then matriculated at Southern University Baton Rouge, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s +30 in School Administration and Supervision. Later, he received a Master of Arts Degree in Biblical Counseling from Friends International Christian University of Merced, California–an affiliation of Christian Faith Bible College. Ernest began his career teaching at Henderson Dunn Elementary School. He taught all over Orleans Parish and served as Principal at James Derham Junior School, Carter G. Woodson Jr. High, and Martin Behrman Elementary Schools. Ernest met and married his wife of 61 years, Marion Anderson Johnson, a great and virtuous woman, while they were both students at Southern University New Orleans. They are the parents of four magnificent sons–Ernest Jr., Darryl, Steven, and Ronell. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife and an amazing father to his sons. He believed in education and made sure his children and grandchildren were highly educated. An amazing husband and father, he was known for his generosity, and love for his family, especially his sons and grandchildren. Just like Marion, he was a marvelous cook in his own right–he made exceptional eggnog, mustard greens, cabbage, and red beans and rice; his barbecue ribs–the best barbeque this side of heaven–and his liver and grits were wonderful. Oh Lord! He embraced all his sons’ friends and welcomed them into his home with love and open arms. He was a father and role model to so many of them. Ernest accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age in Waterproof, LA at the St. Luke Baptist Church under the pastorship of the Reverend Harrison Gary. As a devout Christian, he loved the Lord with his whole heart and enjoyed witnessing and re-preaching his sermon notes at every given opportunity. Ernest also led many people to Christ, and later became a member of the Hope of Glory Church, under the pastorship of Doctor W. Ron Walker, where he was a faithful member until he went home to Glory. His memory, his legacy, and his life will be cherished by his loving and devoted sons–Ernest Johnson Jr. (Patricia), Darryl Johnson Sr. (Sharon), Steven Johnson (Jill), and Ronell Johnson (Rachel); his siblings–Charles Johnson (Martha), Loretta Jasper, Barbara Parker (Willie), Warren Johnson, Cedric Johnson, Denise Britton (Lonnie), Debra Johnson, and Etta Johnson; his sisters-in-law–Gladys Anderson, Lorraine Judson (Bruce), Gertie Jenkins (Gregory), Nathalie Jones (Phillip), and Sonia Irthum (David); and his brothers-in-law–Alex Anderson, Edward Anderson (Martha), Lee Anderson (Karen), and Chris Anderson (Olga). He was also dearly loved and cherished by his seven grandchildren–Ernest Johnson III, Brandon Johnson, Darryl Johnson Jr., Jazlyn Johnson, Jendaya Johnson, Joi Johnson, and Selas Johnson; his six loving step grandchildren–Mykele, David, Jeremiah, Sharod, Roshuy, and Charles; three great-grandchildren–Jayden, Greyson, and Delina; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Finally, Ernest was a true brother-in-law to Gloria Anderson, and Alberta Anderson. Ernest was preceded in death by his wife–Marion Anderson Johnson; his parents–Jack Johnson and Alberta Harris Johnson; two brothers–Jack Johnson Jr. and Leroy Johnson; one brother-in-law–Raymond Jasper Sr.; one sister-in-law–Denise A. Johnson; parents-in-law– Morris E. Anderson and Lillian Wesley Anderson; and two brothers-in-law–Morris Anderson Jr. and Harold Anderson.
