Sally Jones

Sally Jones

Age - 78

November 13, 2023

Sally E. Jones, age 78, returned to the One who loved her most on November 10. She loved and served the Lord passionately, but realized that a time would come when this earthly tabernacle would be dissolved, and that she would live eternally in the prepared place that awaits all who love and live for the Lord. She was surrounded by her beloved family who will miss her immensely. She was born in Sussex County on October 22, 1945 to the late Eddie and Mamie Graves. She was a lifelong member of Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church in Waverly where she worshipped and served faithfully until her health began to decline. Even when her physical body made it difficult for her to be as active and independent as she desired, she mustered up enough strength to make her way into the House of the Lord until she could no longer do so. Sally was educated in the Sussex County School System and happily received her GED the same year that her daughter, Tracey, graduated from high school. That was truly a joyful time because she boldly went back to school in her 40s while she also worked a full time job. She worked numerous jobs and let her light shine at them all. Former employers include Seward Luggage, Masonite Corporation (later known as International Paper), Standard Motor Products, and Sussex County Public Schools. Her motto was "let the work that I have done speak for me. " When she retired from Sussex County Public Schools as a head custodian in 2016, she found favor there because she believed in working as unto the Lord. This reflected in the "extra touches" that she would always add in every room that she cleaned, every space that she entered, and every person that she was blessed to speak with each day. She was an amazing listener and intercessor; lives were enhanced by her presence. Over the last year of her life, she reignited her love for art and began creating and framing beautiful projects that she created and would share with others as the Spirit of the Lord led her to do so. She was an encourager and used her gifts and talents in what would be known as "Sally's Heart", a budding non-profit organization in her name that did random acts of kindness to lift the spirits of others. That was who she was and what she believed in. Daily she strived to leave individuals and places better than how they were when she found them. Not only did she give framed artwork to local family and friends, but she also shared them with patients at Virginia Oncology in Williamsburg, the cancer center where her daughter, Tracey, received chemotherapy treatments. Sally is loved and honored by three children who were the joy of her life: Michael (Karen), Maureen (Dennis) - her loving and faithful caregivers, and Tracey (Rodney, Sr. ). She was also adored by her grandchildren: Edwin, Lakisia (Luke), Alisia (Tahali), Kendall, Wendell, Rodney Jr, Jordan, Jamie, Michael Jr, and Xavier. She was also blessed with 6 great grandchildren. Sally is survived by two sisters and one brother: Alma West (John), Dr. Mary Jeter, and Cleveland Graves. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Joseph, Vernon (Ophelia), Clifton, Wallace, Ella, Patricia, Lucille, and Catherine. She is also dearly beloved by many nieces, nephews, other family members, friends, the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church family, and so many more. To know her is to love her; that is her legacy that will continue to live on in her children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to really know her. The children would like to extend a special acknowledgment to the Rose of Sharon Church family and all of mom's close friends who checked on her daily and weekly. She also thanks the following medical supports: NP Heather Darden of Horizon Health, Trinity Hospice, Dr. Nikolas Krishna of the Levinson Heart Failure Clinic at Chippenham Hospital, Heartland Hospice, and the Senior Citizens of Sussex County. You touched mom's life in a very special way and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We thank you in advance for continued prayers. A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday November 18, 2023 at 2 p. m. at the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church, 438 Elm Street Waverly, VA , with the Pastor, Bishop Tyrone R. Harper, Sr. Eulogizing, and Bishop Marvin J. Drew, Sr. , Pastor of Lily of the Valley Deliverance Center, Officiating. Interment will follow at the Waverly Cemetery.
