Ralph Joesph Hernandez, age 65, passed away at home on August 26, 2023. He was born June 29, 1957 in Denver, Colorado to Sarah Jimenez and Henry Hernandez. Ralph worked various jobs throughout his life time, but the last job he held was at the Brighton ARC where he stalked their shelves with all the products the store was to sell. Ralph is survived by a son, Philip Hallum of Oklahoma. Sisters; Diana Welch of Brighton, Colorado, Eunice (Mike) of Westminster, Colorado, Slyvia (Tim) of Westminster, Colorado, Cynthia of Denver, Colorado, and Doreen also of Denver, Colorado. Alos by nuimerous nieces and nephews. Ralph was reffered to by the nickname "Uncle Joe:" by his family and just babout everyone who knew him. Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Jimenez and Henry Hernandez. By his brothers; Henry Henrandez, Gilbert Hernandez, and Anthony Medina, and sisters, Tina and Roseanna Archuleta.

ichard James Edelen, aged 69 passed away on November 28, 2023, in his home with his family beside him. Rick was born February 25, 1954, in Denver, Co to Beulah and Gerald Edelen. Rick met the love of his life, Donna, while attending Golden High School. They met on Donna's first day of high school and the two married July 1, 1972. Rick and Donna have built a beautiful life raising three wonderful children, Jim, 50 (Tammy), Shane 48 (Ashley), and Victoria, 44 (Nate). Fourteen beautiful grandchildren and 4 great grand babies and as Rick would say, and 1 in the hopper. Rick began his career in concrete flatwork, starting at J&D Concrete then to All States Concrete Pumping with his father-in-law and Nissen Concrete before a long-standing career at Peterson Concrete for many successful years. In 1995, Rick took a leap of faith by following his dreams and opened his own business, Denver Concrete Services. The business was run from his home until he saved enough money to buy land, build an office and shop in 2000. DCS became the largest residential flatwork company in Colorado, which is still fully operational and ran by his sons. In 2000 Rick attended his first of many SCI conventions which blossomed his passion for hunting around the world. In 2013 he earned the Hunting Award for achieving well over 220 species, and in 2017, Rick was honored with the Safari Club International World Conservation Hunting Award and also presented with one of six World Hunting Rings, in Las Vegas. He also has received many awards including 2 Grand Slams, Animals of Africa - Gold and 5 - Diamond Awards. Rick was asked to share what got him into hunting; I first became interested in hunting as a young boy, I went out with my dad every chance I could. Before I was old enough to drive, my mom would take me out to a field and leave me there so I could hunt small game. I took a long break from hunting while raising my family. My children and some of my grandchildren have hunted with me numerous times. Hunting has allowed me to travel the world and to see things that a tourist would never see, I love the adventure of it. I have completed the Capra 30, Ovis 20 and the North American 29. My favorite hunts are mountain hunts for sheep and goats. I am a life member of Grand Slam, Ovis, Wild Sheep and SCI. In 2018, Rick chose to try photography and as he would say he was a photo hobbyist who dabbled in photography and has a lot to learn. Needless to say, his family, friends and strangers from around the world strongly disagreed as his photos captured the way of life many will never see. As one guide stated, when Rick would enter a remote village, or crowded marketplace, he instantly greeted strangers with his beaming smile. In the markets, he'd hug the vendors and joke around with people. He was like the Pied Piper with kids in every country he visited, with a multitude of fans in tow. Often times he'd buy a round of sodas or ice cream for the kids that gathered around him. Rick visited 115 of 195 countries. Since 2003 he traveled to Africa 29 times. He built a stunning home for Donna in Mazatlan, Mexico. No matter where his travels took him, he always remained connected to his family at home as he was a devoted family man and loved them most. He made a goal to create a family that grew together. His family is his treasure. He lit up a room while speaking of them. Rick is proceeded in death by his father Gerald, mother Beulah and brother Bill Edelen. He is survived by his sister Judy (Ron) brother Donald (Jan) and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews. Horst Dietz

Horst Kurt Dietz 6-14-1943 - 11-21-2023 Horst Dietz, 80, a longtime resident of Brighton, Colorado suddenly passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. He was born June 14, 1943 to Kurt and Hildegard (Borchmann) Dietz in Meinengen, Germany. He and his family moved to Frankfurt, Germany where Horst Lived a full, loving, family-filled life as the oldest brother of four. Horst graduated in Frankfurt, Germany with his Master's degree in Cosmetology. In 1968, immigrated to the United States and became a US citizen in 1979. Horst enjoyed cosmetology for many years, participated in Hair Shows in the US and Internationally. He owned two successful beaty salons, La Normande in Indian Harbor Beach, FL and Carefree Curls in Colorado Springs, CO. Horst taught cosmetology at Northeastern Junior College. After many years in cosmetology, Horst pursued his career in the restaurant and bar industry. Horst owned the Home Cafe in Cripple Creek, CO and Big Daddy's Famous Hamburgers in Brighton, CO from which he retired. Everyone knew through the years, he enjoyed traveling with his family, cooking for his family and friends, camping, cruises, going to the mountains, the beach, scuba diving, hiking, outdoors, making friends wherever he went. Horst was a stranger to no one and found great purpose sharing in the successes, joys, and challenges of those around him. Horst was authentically and wholeheartedly there for those in his life. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. Horst was proceeded in death by his parents, Kurt and Hildegard Dietz, his loving wife, Patricia (Linville) Dietz, sister, Renate Dietz and brothers, Edgar and Manfred Dietz. Horst is survived by his children, Angelika (Dietz) Temple (Randall Temple), Christian Dietz, Stefanie (Dietz) Simpson, Renate Dietz, Kurt Dietz. His grandchildren, Amber Temple, Brandon Temple (Amber), Alyssa Garcia (Antonio), Taylor Forsythe, Travis Dietz (Amber), Katelynn Schwartz (Brandon), Dalton Dietz, Derrick Simpson, Julie Simpson and 11 great grandchildren. There are several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends that will miss him dearly. He truly loved each of them- and if you him, you knew it. Noah Jesus Garcia Noah was born in Brighton CO to Sharon Aguilar and Jesus Garcia. He was the youngest of two siblings. When his mom remarried in 2004, Noah inherited 3 brothers and one sister. He was closest to his sister. Noah grew up in Brighton. He loved sports, especially playing football. He was very competitive. He was very close to his mother. He often sat in the car with her sharing his favorite music. He shared his life with his mom, always in conversation, with friends and even girls. She was blessed to see Noah as no one else was. In adulthood, Noah had huge struggles he finally overcame. His life was his oldest son. In 2019 he became a stepfather. He married in 2019 and became a father to two boys. He loved being a father and spending his time with his boys, all four of them. He adored them. William Hilborn

Age - 93

W illiam J Hilborn was born November 25, 1929 in Cheyenne County, Kansas in a soddy hut to Raymond and Pearl Hilborn. He had four siblings, Raymond, Jeannie, Errol, & Elaine. Married to his one true love Phyllis E Daniels on December 19, 1948. Phyllis passed away on May 3, 2003. John passed away peacefully in his home in Englewood, Colorado. John joined the Marines on March 26, 1952 to March 15, 1954 during the Korean War. John received the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, and United Nations Service Medal. He has survived by his two brothers Raymond and Errol, two sons John (Dale) and Craig (Peggy) and one daughter Debra (Mark), five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren It is difficult, as best, to attempt to honor our dad in words. Porferio Candelaria

Age - 86

orferio Edward Candelaria, also known as Ed to friends and Chito to his family. He was born on March 14, 1937, in Pinones Colorado to Saturnino and Luisa Candelaria. He was their eleventh child out of seventeen. He married Hope Martinez on June 25, 1960, in Avondale Colorado. Chito served in the Navy. He settled in the big city starting a career at Gates Rubber Company where he worked there for 38 years and retired in 2000. Throughout this time, he and Hope were supportive of their vast extended families. Their door was always open to anyone in need. They did lots of work with the church and with their dedication to the Blessed Mary. He together with Hope sought new adventures with and for their family. An example being a trip to Italy with 2 of his grandchildren, his sisters and sister-in-law. Soon after his retirement they moved to Brighton to be close to their daughter Elizabeth and their 3 grandchildren. He was often found at one of his grandchildren's many games and events, becoming Grandpa to their friends and teammates. Chito dedicated his life to helping those in need. He cheered on his Denver Broncos, no matter how well or poorly they were doing. He enjoyed spending a couple of hours at the Casinos in Blackhawk. He enjoyed working with the Knight of Columbus and his church community. Anytime he spent with family was precious to him -he loved having his 6 great grandchildren around even if they caused a ruckus. Chito is survived by his daughter Elizabth (Fidel) Balderas, along with 3 grandchildren, Lucia Balderas, Angelica Espinoza, and David (Gabby) Balderas; his 6 great grandchildren, Audri, Ximena, Bruno III, Noah, Nalanie, and David Jr. Also, his 2 sisters Mary "Lola" Martinez and Lydia "Lily" Finn and in-laws Rebecca, Maxine, Fermin, and Janice. He is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Hope, his parents, and numerous brothers and sisters, in laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mark Sems

With heavy hearts, we share that Mark Sems passed away on November 8, 2023, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Mark was born in Holdrege, Nebraska, on November 13, 1962, to Ray Sems and Lana Doll. He then spent the majority of his years in Colorado, where he worked in the construction business as a heavy equipment operator, a level of skill that he was proud of, and we of him. Survivors include his partner Beth Swan, Sherri Qualls who was the mother of his children and with who he shared a life-long bond until the very last day. His three children; Matthew (Katy) Sems, Rochelle (Jayson) Caton, and Rebecca Sems. As well as his siblings; Brian (Kim) Sems, Max (Stephanie) Sems, Debbie (Winston) Allart, Joe (Carol and family) Bunton, John (Amber and family) Bunton, and Mark (Karen and family) Mayfield. Nephew; Ben Sems. Nieces; Crystal (Tom) Wagner, Ashlynn Sems, and Brooke Sems. Grandsons; Keenan Sems, Maxon Sems, Abel Caton "his little fishing buddy" and a precious granddaughter; Regan Caton. As well as numerous other family members who he loved dearly, and called often. All of whom share a special bond with him, that is just theirs. He was preceded in death by many, but most notably his parents, Ray Sems, Lana, and Burel Doll. We know they welcomed him into heaven with open arms. To know him and love him was a gift as he was very caring and thoughtful. His sense of humor will truly be missed. As the sorrow will lessen over time and the laughter will resume, will do our best to answer a few more Jeopardy questions correctly, make a perfect pot of green chile, and fish every chance we get! While we would have loved even one more day with him, we know that he is in a peaceful place with a restful heart, and we will someday get to his him again. Donna Olson

Age - 90

November 21, 2023

Donna H. Olson was born on February 4, 1933 in Cincinnati Ohio to Anthony and Clara Banack. She spent most of her growing up days in Minneapolis, MN. As a child she and her brothers dug and sold worms to fishermen at the family owned resort on Long Lake. She attended Saint Margarets High School where in addition to chasing boys she was a star on the girls basketball team. She met the love of her life Wally, while she was a soda jerk at a drugstore in Wayzata. For their first date much to her dads chagrin Wally showed up on his Indian Motorcycle. They were married Oct 24, 1953 in Minneapolis and raised 4 children in Minnetonka. In addition to being a mother and housewife Donna had many jobs including being a key punch operator at Honeywell where she played on the company basketball team as well, a school bus driver, and later she helped in the family business and sold goodies at Wally's Home Bakery in Brooklyn Park. Donna was quick to point out and frequently said, "I am not a baker!" She was a hard worker and queen of the cleaning and dishwashing. Wally's baking career moved the family to Bemidji in 1968. While in Bemidji she was a Girl Scout leader and she worked in the bakery and various departments at John's SuperValu. She finally got of the bakery going to work at Bemidji State University where she was in charge of the audio visual department and also worked in admissions. After 12 years in Bemidji an ad to buy a bakery in a trade journal landed the family in Brush, Colorado where they owned the Honey Bun Bakery and had their grand opening in January 1980. Donna was back at selling fresh baked goods and washing dishes. Time in Brush brought on some additional entrepreneurial opportunities including running the concessions at the Brush and Ft. Morgan softball games, the Ft. Morgan Swimming pool and golf course. As if she didn't have enough dishes to wash and candy to sell, she bought a food truck and sold the bakery items at auctions all around Northeastern Colorado. The Honey Bun Bakery was sold in 1990, Wally bought an RV and off to be snow birds in Mesa AZ they went. They ended up at the Country Cousins 55+ park where they planned on living in the winter and enjoying their RV in cooler ares in the summer. They enjoyed the people at Country Cousins so much they discussed buying a mobile home there. Unfortunately Wally passed away in 1992. Donna made the big decision to go ahead and do it on her own and she lived there year around. Living in Country Cousins, Donna literally became a cousin to all. She played competitive shuffleboard, served on the activity committee, hosted regular "Happy Hours" and game nights on her patio. Her favorite time of the year was when she would host a burrito feed for the other park residents when her grandkids from Colorado were in town. Somehow she found the time to work as an usher for the Arizona Diamondbacks, in addition she was the go to driver to and from the airport for many in the park. After several years, Country cousins sold out to a big corporation and "just didn't feel right" any more and she moved to two other parks until her Daughter Patty moved to the valley and Donna has basically lived with Patty ever since. She loved playing Bingo and her annual trip to Las Vegas with her three daughters. This past February she celebrated her 90th Birthday with almost all of her children, grand children and great grandchildren attending the party in her honor. She passed away peacefully November, 7th at her home in Apache Junction, AZ with all of her children and her beloved dog Cinderella at her side. Donna is proceeded in death by her parents, Tony and Clara Banack, Her husband Wally, and her Brothers Jerome and Duane Banack. She is survived by her brother Jim (Nadine) Banack, Minneapolis MN, daughters Sandy (Chuck) Sprenger, of Fair Oaks Ranch TX, Patty Olson (her caretaker), Apache Junction, AZ, Judy (Ken) Kreutzer, Brighton CO, and son Ed (Susan) Olson, Queen Creek AZ. Grandchildren, Zac & Abby Sprenger, Brandon Olson, Missy White, Johnny & Ben Kreutzer, Kenny Owen, Summer, Tiana, Amanda, David, Thomas & Robby Olson, and 7 Great Grandchildren. Laura Church

Laura Lynn Church, peacefully passed away on November 13, 2023, at her residence in Brighton, Colorado, at the age of 56. She was born on April 6, 1967, in Maryland. Laura was a loving, spiritual, and strong individual with a beautiful light and infectious laugh that touched the lives of those around her. Laura is survived by her beloved daughter, Cara Church-Underwood, her mother, Betty Church, and her brothers Richard "Rik" Church, William "Bill" Church lll and dog Hershey. She was preceded in death by her father, William "Bud" Church Jr. Laura attended Brighton High School and furthered her education at AIMS Community College. She had a passion for camping, art, genealogy, gardening, history, music and enjoying life to the fullest. Laura was a student of the Bible but also practiced white magic and collected crystals/gems. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends and watching the Bronco games with her family. These hobbies brought her joy and allowed her to connect with those she loved. A memorial service will be held to honor Laura's life on November 26, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton, Colorado. Following the service, a celebration of life will take place from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Jordinelli's in Brighton. All are welcome to attend, and the family kindly requests that those attending the celebration of life bring a dish to share. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Laura's memory to Walk MS, a cause that was close to her heart.
