Beverly Lange

Beverly Lange

Age - 86

November 26, 2023

MARSHALL - Beverly Jean Lange, 89, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, Nov. 23, 2023, after a years-long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Beverly was born on April 1, 1934, the daughter of Arno and Martha Buehler. She called herself an April Fool's baby, but she was no fool. Beverly started grade school early (persistently following her older brother to school), then graduated with honors from Marshall High School in 1951 and the Nursing School at Methodist Hospital in 1954. Beverly married her high school sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Lange, on Feb. 12, 1955. They enjoyed 65 years together and had four children. Beverly loved and was extremely proud of her 50+ year career as a nurse in Madison (Methodist/Meriter Hospital and Dean Clinic) and Mauston (Hess Memorial). Outside of work and after retirement in 2005, she continued that "always willing to help" attitude, caring for her family and her many friends and neighbors over the years. Beverly was involved with different organizations in Marshall, but most importantly for her, was the Methodist Church. She was an active member, volunteering whenever needed, and even serving on several mission trips, two of them to Chile to build churches and homes. Beverly was busy, but not too busy to attend the many sports, musical, and dance events her children and grandchildren were involved in. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at bridge and euchre clubs, class reunions, and other activities, always bringing sweet treats to eat. Beverly and Bob were UW Badgers football season ticket holders since the 1970s and enjoyed traveling to many bowl games and road trips. They became snowbirds and wintered in Tucson Estates, enjoying new experiences, and developing new friendships that she treasured. Although Alzheimer's disease wore her down, Beverly never lost her sense of humor, her respect for others, and her ability to make people smile. Beverly is survived by her children, Dennis (Carol Johnson-Lange) Lange, Dwayne (Gigi) Lange, David (Lois Herfel) Lange and Debra Lange; six grandchildren, Evan Lange, Jordan Lange, Amber Sheff, Hannah (Weston) Kanouse, Casey (Michael) Wehrli and Leah (Ryan) Huston; and three great-grandchildren, Molly Foster, Clara and Andrew Wehrli; sisters-in-law, Gwen Bueler and Mary Ann (Henry) Veith; and brother-in-law Darrell (Carol) Lange. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; and her brother, Kenneth. A Funeral Service will be held at MARSHALL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 318 William St. , Marshall, at 11 a. m. on Friday Dec. 1, 2023, with Pastor Martina Stanton presiding. Burial will be held at Medina Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church from 5 p. m. until 7 p. m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, and also from 10 a. m. until the time of the service on Friday. Beverly and her family would like to thank Senior Helpers, the Sun Prairie Colonial Club, The Knoll and the Meadows at Oakwood Village and Agrace HospiceCare for the amazing people that helped to care for her in her final years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marshall UMC, Agrace HospiceCare, or Oakwood Village. Online condolences may be made at www. gundersonfh. com. John Ropa

John Ropa

Age - 84

November 26, 2023

MIDDLETON - The family and friends of John William Ropa announce his passing on Wednesday, the 22nd of November 2023. John was born to Edna Menge and Leslie Ropa on Feb. 23, 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Arete Kargas Ropa, his son Daniel John, and his brother Robert. John was married to Arete Ropa on Jan. 21, 1963, in a Greek Orthodox ceremony in Des Plaines, Ill. A graduate of Main East High School, John completed his undergraduate schooling at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. , and earned an M. B. A. from the University of Chicago. John also served as a member of the Illinois National Guard from 1963-1969. John was the father to three sons, Daniel, David and Douglas, father-in-law to Heidi Ropa, and grandparent to three grandchildren, Samuel, Benjamin and Darshana. He was also affectionately known as "Clyde" to dozens of nieces, nephews and friends of the family. An employee of Abbott Laboratories for more than 30 years, John worked in the International Trade Division in the area of materials management. One of his most impactful accomplishments was the establishment of an international free trade zone in northern Illinois. An avid writer, John was extremely proud of his novel, "The Non-Product Consolidation Operation," a satiric take on the foibles and ineptitude often found in corporate life. He always had an extra copy on hand in the event he met someone who had not yet read his book. His family suspects some of the people he met lied, and told him they had already read it. An avid gardener, John loved walking his land, growing fruits, veggies and flowers, and attempting to graft fruit tree branches onto the branches of other trees. John hoped that someday, somewhere, a ripe pear would be found growing on the branch of an apple tree. In his final year, the simple act of watching marigolds flourish and bloom was enough to bring great joy. A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave. , Middleton, at 11 a. m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:30 a. m. until the time of the celebration of life on Saturday. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please support the organization of your choice and write a letter to tell the family why that organization touches your heart. There are so many opportunities to give in this world; we should encourage each other to give often. The family extends its sincere thanks to the several communities, staff and residents who cared for John in the final years of his life. We are grateful for Middleton Glen, Agrace HospiceCare and Brookdale West. The family recognizes Regina Wilkins, in particular, whose unwavering love, strength and courage brought John so much comfort and joy in his final years. John was generous in many ways. Most importantly, John liked to give laughter and smiles. He often remarked that if he could make one person laugh each day, it was a good day. It is easy to be sad, it takes effort to make others laugh. Please continue to bring joy and laughter to the hearts of those around you. Online condolences may be made at www. gundersonfh. com. Wanda Williams

Wanda Williams

Age - 93

November 23, 2023

MADISON - Mrs. Wanda Juanita "Nita" Williams was born on Aug. 11, 1930, to Dudley Warwick and Goldie Belle Proctor in Bellefontaine, Ohio. When Juanita was 2 years old, her family relocated to Chicago, Ill. , where she attended school and spent the majority of her life. She was the middle child of five siblings: Frances, Evelyn, and Richard, (all preceded her in death) and Joyce who survives her. She loved being an older sister, a role she fulfilled with honor. She was an inquisitive child and loved reading, roller skating, and swimming. Her passion for reading stayed with her throughout her life. Juanita received Christ in her life at an early age and held true to the Seventh Day Adventist Christian denomination. As an adult she attended the Madison Community Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Pastor Richard Moore. In 1948 Juanita met the love of her life, Atherdore Williams Sr. They were joined in holy matrimony on Oct. 4, 1954. They shared a beautiful life together full of unconditional love and to this union a total of nine children were born: Roger, Terry, James, Goldie, Atherdore Jr. , Clyde, Bessie, Evelyn, and Dorenita. They remained married until Atherdore's death on July 28, 1984. She was a devoted wife and mother and would often reminisce about her late husband while providing words of marital wisdom to those seeking counsel. In 1994 Juanita relocated to Sun Prairie, Wis. , where she spent most of her time enjoying family relationships and sharing her love for "silver screen" movies and musicals with everyone she knew. She enjoyed being with family and often stated how blessed she was to share homes with two of her daughters, Evelyn and Dorenita, respectively. When not at home helping or serving others, Juanita enjoyed traveling and casino gaming. Her dream was to hit a jackpot and give all of her family a financial blessing. As an avid traveler, she would look forward to the next destination. This was especially true when she traveled to Canada to meet extended family. She would recall over the years the beauty of the country and the cousins who treated her like royalty. Juanita relocated one last time in 2018 to Lebanon, Tenn. , a suburb of Nashville where she lived with her eldest daughter, Goldie, and her son-in-law, Lou. Here, she was able to take advantage of the milder climate and to enjoy the Music City sound as she was a lifelong country music fan. Highlights of her life in Tennessee included visits to Graceland, Dollywood, Bellefontaine (Barbara Mandrell's home), Beale Street in Memphis, and Tunica. One of her fondest memories was a night at the Ryman Auditorium where she saw Roseanne Cash perform songs of Patsy Cline, her favorite country singer!Juanita loved the warm climate and people of the south and would spend months at a time in Savannah, Ga. , visiting her granddaughter, Brandi, her husband, Derrick, and their family. They would travel throughout the south, including several cities in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama and Florida. Here she would connect with extended family and friends who also loved her dearly. She was affectionately known as "Grandma Nita" to everyone she met. She loved to celebrate with her family. As the wife and mother of enlisted military personnel, she was a true patriot and looked forward to July 4th festivities. She also enjoyed celebrating Christmas and making sure it was special for everyone, but particularly her children. Daughter, Bessie, recalled how "Mom really made the holiday magical. We really thought there was a Santa and some of us really believed that we saw reindeer flying. " In addition to these celebrations, Juanita's favorite holiday was Thanksgiving. It gave her the opportunity to be surrounded by loved ones, and share delicious meals with warm memories. Juanita loved musicals, singing, reading, enjoying good food, different genres of music, trivia, traveling, puzzles, going to the casino, and just "having fun!" She enjoyed going on evening walks and reminiscing over her many life experiences. She even started doing Zumba in her late 80s and served as a source of inspiration and encouragement for others in the fitness class. As her health declined she often spoke of how blessed she was to be surrounded by family to care for her. Her daughter, Goldie, and son-in-law, Lou, were her primary caregivers, joined by daughters, Dorenita, Bessie, and Evelyn, who would also share in her loving care. She was in hospice care for six months and was thankful to have the wonderful staff of Amedysis Hospice Care visit her and offer prayers and comforting support to her throughout this timeframe. A true star of the "Silver Screen" in our midst, Juanita leaves to mourn her a multitude of family and fans. MIDDLETON - My bride of 50 years, Susan L. "Susie" (Austin) Dunn passed away on Nov. 11, 2023, with her granddaughter by her side. Susie has had many health issues in the last several years and the struggle has come to an end. She was very brave and determined but the odds were against her. Susie was the oldest of three kids, born on May 6, 1954, to Orville and Donna Austin at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. She graduated from East High School in 1972. Shortly after, we met while she was working at my mother's popular restaurant, Bev's Restaurant. After dating for a short time, we moved in together downtown and I would wake up in the morning and go to high school and Susie to work. I graduated in June of 1973, and we were married in August. In Susie's early years she worked at St. Mary's Central Service, Cullen Day Care and then she cooked at the French House on campus for 18 years. She loved cooking for the students and staff. Susie also worked for Felly's Flowers and Beauty Blossoms. We started our new business, Dunn's Import Car Service in 1979. Susie worked there for a few years and then started volunteer work. Susie's passion for caring for others was shared at Pet Pals, Alzheimer's Alliance and different local memory care facilities with her standard poodles. Susie loved to bake, cook, play tennis, volunteer, shop, buy shoes and have good times with her family and friends. You could always tell it was Susie by her "CUBYE" license plate, seen in front of many stores throughout the years. Susie is survived by her soul mate, Jeff; daughter, Kelli; four granddaughters, two brothers, three brothers-in-law and their spouses and friends who all loved her very, very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, and her favorite aunts and uncles.
