Ralph Robert "Bob" Barker, 78, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away October 6, 2023, at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River, Kansas He was born November 28, 1944, in Covina, California, the son of Ralph and Loretta Duarte Barker Bob has resided in Lyons since 1964, formerly of West Covina, California He graduated from West Covina High School, with the class of 1962 Bob was a farmer and carpenter He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing slow pitch softball, and watching sporting events In 1963, Bob was united in marriage with Toni Chewning They later divorced She preceded him in death on April 15, 2017 He is also preceded in death by his parents; and a niece, Rebecca Bob is survived by his three children, Kim Miller and husband Rick, Jennifer Barker, and Bobby Barker, all of Lyons; brother, Bill Barker and wife Susan of Lyons; sister, Jeanie Berger of Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren Nick Miller, Luke Miller, Lauren Jones, Jesse Hursey, Ella Darling, Lyndsey Barker, and Lexey Barker; two great-grandchildren, James Joseph Miller and Braylynn Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews Graveside service will be at 11:00 A M , Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, with Pastor Joel Grizzle officiating Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P M , Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P M Memorials may be given to the Lyons Recreation Center (for the baseball and softball program) or North Pole Fire and Rescue in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons To to the family, please

Floyd Lee Mathews, 80, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away November 17, 2023, at the Sterling Village, Sterling. He was born September 14, 1943, in Sterling, the son of Bert and Nellie (Nickel) Mathews. Floyd was a lifelong Sterling resident. He graduated from Kansas Automotive Technical School with a degree in Master Diesel Overhaul. Floyd was a farmer and mechanic. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Sterling, Pretty Prairie Saddle Club, The Moose Lodge, State Fair Promenaders, Salt City Shakers, and the Sterling Saddle Club. Floyd enjoyed driving his #46 dirt track racing car, trail riding, driving wagons, square dancing, watching sports, and especially loved being with his mules, donkeys, and dog. On August 24, 1971, Floyd was united in marriage with Esther Martha Bailey in Lyons, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2005. He is also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, James Rasnic, and Kenneth Rasnic; daughter, Kelly Youngblood; and brother, Leslie Mathews. Floyd is survived by his three sons, Phillip Mathews and wife Lorri of Raymond, KS, and Jeff Neill and wife Annabelle of Manhattan, KS, Chase Mathews of Palm Springs, FL; five daughters, Louise Hauschild and husband Rick of Sterling, KS, Doris Curran and husband Chuck of Grove, OK, Laura Miles of Topeka, KS, Maryoletta Osborn of Blackwell, OK, and Cindy Mathews Hamm of Dallas, TX; sister, Leota Bushell of Sterling, KS; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A. M. , Saturday, December 2, 2023, at the United Methodist Church, Alden, with Pastor Rob Bolton officiating. Burial will follow at the Sterling Community Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P. M. , Friday, December 1, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P. M. Donna Sue Darling, 66, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away November 13, 2023, at her home. She was born November 22, 1956, in Lyons, Kansas, the daughter of Donald M. Sr. and Millie R. (Moore) Nelson. Donna was a lifetime Rice County resident. She graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1974, and later received her Certified Med Aide and bookkeeping certificates from Cranford College in Hutchinson, Kansas. Donna was a Certified Med Aide for many years. She loved being outdoors, going to garage sales, was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family. Donna is survived by her son, Curtie Darling of Lyons, KS, daughter, Jenny Darling of Alden, KS, foster son, Duane Otott; six sisters, Shirley Loader of Alden, KS, Tena Lawson and husband John of Hutchinson, KS, Janet Pitts and husband Bob of Alden, KS, Bonnie Gillespie and husband Mark of Sterling, KS, Cindy Nelson of Hutchinson, KS, and Kristi Klein and husband Greg of Sterling, KS; two granddaughters, Keandra Darling and Ella Darling; and one great-grandson, Kason Darling. Donna is preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael "Mikey" Darling; brother, Donald Nelson Jr. ; and two sisters, Becky Ann Nelson, and Debbie Davis. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 A. M. , Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Alden Community School Building, 305 4th St. Alden. A private family burial will take place at the Alden Valley Cemetery. Mark "Dutch" Kuhn, 70, went home to be with the Lord on October 3, 2023, at home in Sterling, KS He was born May 15, 1953, in Hays, KS, to John F Kuhn and Bernadine (Homler) Kuhn Dutch graduated in 1971 from Ellis High School and in 1973 from Kansas Technical Institute, Salina with an associate degree in Electronics Before his marriage, he worked for General Battery and traveled to their plants across the United States from Los Angeles, CA, to Selma, AL, and Redding, PA Dutch worked as a concrete foreman for Sherwood Construction and Wildcat Construction before beginning a long career as a self-employed carpenter On September 10, 1977, he was united in marriage with Shirley Ann Ludwick in Hutchinson, KS They were married for 46 years and raised three children After living briefly in Wichita, western Kansas, and Broken Arrow, OK, they made their home in Sterling Dutch liked woodworking, light construction, grilling, gardening, and later in life cooking breakfasts for his grandchildren Dutch was a member, Deacon, and treasurer at Faith Baptist Church in Hutchinson, KS Dutch could often be seen at concerts, plays, and races cheering on his children and grandchildren Dutch is survived by: his children, Rebecca Kuhn (Alan Newton) of Baton Rouge, LA, John Kuhn of Sterling, KS; and Michelle (Travis) Leonard of Sublette, KS; and grandchildren Judah Kuhn, Israel Kuhn, and Marah Kuhn, of Sterling, KS; and Cason Leonard, Cara Leonard, and Isaac Leonard of Sublette, KS He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers David Kuhn and Darrell Kuhn A service will be held at 10:30 a m Monday, October 9, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home in Sterling, KS Visitation will take place from 2-4 p m on Sunday, October 8, at the Funeral Home Burial will follow at the Alden Valley Cemetery In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the youth and AWANAs programs at Calvary Baptist Church, Sterling, KSShow more

Stephanie Anne Vaughn, loving mother, daughter, sister and friend, died on September 19, 2023 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kan. at the age of 51. Stephanie was born August 17, 1972 in Emporia, KS to Steve and Kathleen Inwood who survive. Other than a few years of college, Stephanie was a life-long Emporia resident. She graduated from Olpe High School class of 1991 and attended Pratt Community College on a basketball scholarship and later attended Emporia State University where she studied marketing. Stephanie worked for Brown's Shoe Fit, Dolly Madison, but her greatest job was that of being a mother to Kennedy Vaughn. Stephanie loved to cook. She loved animals, especially dogs, but did love the cats. Stephanie had no greater joy than being a mother. She was a passionate protector of her family and spent hours driving her parents to appointments and being their primary caregiver. The love she had for both of them was evident. Stephanie is survived by her daughter, Kennedy Vaughn; her parents, Steve and Kathleen Inwood all of Emporia; her brother, Brian Inwood and wife Nancy of Sterling, KS; nephew and nieces, Cameron, Katie and Paige Inwood of Sterling; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 A. M. , Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, with Father Carter Zielinski officiating. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Emporia. Terry Gene Graff, passed away at 10:40 A. M. , Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Lyons Medical Center. Terry was born to Frederick and Alta Graff on July 17, 1954, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. He graduated from Central High School in Camp Point, Illinois in 1973. Terry entered military service in the United States Army on August 22, 1977 as a 19E armor crewman. He served six years and five months before being honorably discharged due to medical reasons. He obtained the rank of Staff Sargeant (E-6). After leaving military service, Terry entered employment with The Department of The Army as a civilian, where he retired after thirty years of service. Terry enjoyed family cookouts, where he always had two helpings and then would remark the food tasted like, we will just say 'sub-standard'. He also enjoyed horseback riding, working with the Junction City Rodeo Association, and being outdoors. He would always help family and friends whenever he could. Terry is survived by his wife, Shannon Lynn Graff and his son, Cody Allen Graff of Geneseo, KS; daughter, Melinda Sue Graff of Junction City, KS; three brothers, Roger Graff and wife Barbara, Dennis Graff and wife Karen, and Melvin Graff all of Illinois; sister Betty Utterback and husband Gene of Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews. Terry is preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents. A celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and friends. Marilee (Kinne) Mace, 89, of Sterling, KS, passed away on March 19, 2023, from congestive heart failure. Marilee was born on September 17, 1933, to Marcus and Bessie Kinne in San Benito, TX. She attended Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma. Spring semester 1955, she met her husband Glenn Mace. They were married July 20, 1956. She worked for Civil Service at Kelly AFB, San Antonio, TX, while Glenn was stationed there as a general instructor of recruits. In 1956, Glenn was transferred to Altus AFB, OK, where Keith was born in 1958. After leaving the Air Force in 1959, Glenn was appointed student pastor of Morning Star Methodist Church, Guymon, OK. Marilee was now a pastor's wife. While there, she completed her last year of college at Panhandle A&M, obtaining a B. S. in Business Education. After moving to Oklahoma City in 1961, she attended graduate school at Central State University. During the years of 1961-1964, she worked as bookkeeper, secretary, and again pastor's wife, living 2 years in Union City, OK, and 2 years in Cleo Springs, OK, where Mark was born in 1964. In 1968, Marilee and Glenn moved to McAlester, OK, where she taught G. E. D in Adult Education at the Oklahoma State Prison, Women's Ward in McAlester. When they moved back to Oklahoma City in 1969, she went to work at the Oklahoma City Skill Center, developing a hospital ward clerk training program for Oklahoma Vo-Tech schools. She also taught high school part-time. In 1972, she and Glenn purchased his father's beekeeping and honey production business in Sterling, KS. She worked with Glenn as co-owner of Mace Honey Company, producing and processing honey commercially and also managing honeybees for agricultural crop pollination. From 1957 to the present, she and her husband were active members of the United Methodist Church in TX, OK, and KS. She served as Sunday School teacher, student pastor's wife, UMW president, Missions Committee Coordinator, and coordinator of adult mission trips. In 2003, Marilee and Glenn retired from the honey business and moved back to Sterling, KS, and remained there until her death and going home to be with Jesus! Marilee is survived by her husband, Glenn; her son, Keith (Elizabeth) and their children, Nina (Zack), and Dashiell (Jen); and her son, Mark (Valerie) and their children, Brenda (Bryan), Aiden, and Avery. Marilee and Glenn also have three great-grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for 2:00 PM Saturday, April 1, 2023, Sterling First United Methodist Church. A reception will be held at the church after the service. Flowers may be sent to Sterling First UMC. Memorial donations may be sent to Sterling Kids Cove (sterlingkidscove@gmail. com, 620-278-6045).
