ADRIAN- Rachel Elaine Wagner, age 40, of Adrian, died unexpectedly Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. She was born March 1, 1983, in Lebanon, MO, the daughter of Anna (Miller) and David Kozak. Rachel was a lifelong Adrian resident and had attended Adrian High School. Primarily a stay-at-home mother, she also recently worked as a home health aide. She was renown for her "green thumb," and was remarkably skilled at successfully raising any kind of plant--outside or inside. She was also an animal lover, and leaves behind her beloved canine companions, Lily and Daisy. Remembered as an excellent cook, Rachel enjoyed tweaking her mother's recipes, especially potato soup, shepherd's pie, and beef and noodles, making them her own. She loved to plan parties and entertain for any birthday or event that involved her children. Her family will always remember her loving ways, witty sarcasm, unwavering transparency, and her fun-to-be-around wild-side. Rachel was currently engaged to be married this month to the love of her life, Zac Carver of Adrian. He survives. Also surviving to mourn her loss are her mother, Anna (Mike) James of Adrian; and her seven children, Alexis, Kelsey, Bella, Clarise, Emma, Cole and Chloe. She was preceded in death by her father, David Kozak; brother in infancy, David Kozak II; and all of her maternal and paternal grandparents. Cremation will take place. A memorial service for Rachel will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 2:00 p. m. at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian, with Rev. Father Michael Newman, OSFS, officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, from 5-7 p. m. and again on Friday, from 1:00 p. m. until the service begins at the funeral home. Louis Wayne Hall, age 83, of Adrian, Michigan, passed away at Lenawee Medical Care Facility on Thursday, December 7, 2023, alongside his loving family and wife. Wayne was born on October 30, 1940, in Winchester, Tennessee, to Arthur Davis and Myrtle Lucille (Arnold) Hall. He married Carolyn (Vitek) Hall at St. Joseph Church in Adrian, Michigan, on December 31, 1960, who passed away just after him. In October of 1959 he entered the United States Air Force, and proudly served until his honorable discharge in October of 1967. Wayne was known as The Helpful Hardware Man working at both Ace Hardware and Martin's Homecenter until his retirement in 2005. In his free time he served as a member of the Lenawee Conservation Club, and was an avid gardener. Surviving Wayne Hall are his daughters, Darcy Ann Hall, Kerri (Roger) Tornow, Robin L. Lee, and Danea Rae (David) Simetz; sister, Paulette (Lou) Snyder; grandchildren, Adam (Amy) Hall, Andrew (Nicole) Tornow, Aaron Tornow, and Dylan Simetz; and great-grandchildren, Brianna Hall, Carter Tornow, and Cole Tornow. "ADRIAN- Richard "Dick" Albert Firster, 74, of Adrian, Michigan died Tuesday afternoon, December 5, 2023 at his home. Dick was born on July 31, 1949 in Oil City, Pennsylvania one of five children to Theodore and Hazel (Culbertson) Firster. He graduated in 1967 from Cranberry Area High School in Seneca, PA and went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971. On March 30, 1974 Dick married his sweetheart, Kay Lynn Rupert, in Wyandotte, MI. During their 49 years together, Dick and Kay have raised three children and demonstrated to them what love looks like in a marriage. Dick has been a devoted husband and father, and a proud papa to his six grandsons. Dick was a chemical operator and retired from Anderson Development. He was involved with the Lenawee County 4-H poultry program for over 30 years. Dick helped out in many capacities from parent, volunteer, Poultry Barn Superintendent and then again as 4-H grandparent. His dedication and time spent with the program made a lasting impression on so many young 4-H members over the years. Dick enjoyed deer hunting and taking the annual family trip back to Oil City, PA to spend time with his extended family. In addition to his wife, Dick, is survived by their children, Katie Cole (Scott Biehl), Jason (Danielle) Firster and Beth (Ty) Porter; grandsons, Evan and Wyatt Cole, Micah and Holden Firster, and Drew and Ian Porter; bonus family members, Jacqulyne, Kaliegh and Drake Biehl, and Ayla Gray; siblings, Beverly Patton, Donald Firster and Bruce Firster. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Firster; great-nephew, Logan Reinsel; brother-in-law, James Patton and niece, Michelle Rupert. A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 2:00 p. m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian with Rev. Larry Betz officiating. There will be a memorial visitation from 11:00 a. m. until the start of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private at East Rome Cemetery. Robert Paul Soto, age 71, of Adrian, Michigan, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023, at Adrian Bay. Robert was born on October 5, 1952, to Lupe and Noemi (Hernandez) Soto in Adrian, Michigan. Robert worked and retired from Tecumseh Products, Budd Company, and Lenawee Limousine. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, barbecuing, gambling at the casino, and going up north to his cabin. Surviving to honor Robert's memory are the love of his life, Anita Aguilar; daughters, Victoria (David) Kimbrell, Virginia Soto, and Angelita (Jesse) Ruiz; brothers, Edward (Maryann) Soto, Henry (Sheryl) Soto, Joshua (Jen) Soto, and Paul Soto; sisters, Gloria (Joe) Corbett and Paula Soto; grandchildren, Ray C. ADRIAN - Dr. Gretchen Zimmermann Warwick, 81, of Adrian, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, after a brief illness, in the company of her family, at Hospice Home of Lenawee. Gretchen was born on January 14, 1942, in Manhattan, NY, to Paul T. Zimmermann and Mildred Sime Zimmermann. She grew up in Jackson Heights, NY, attended school at Hunter College High School, graduated in 1958 and entered Drew University in Madison, NJ where she majored in sociology and met her husband, Robert J. Warwick. Gretchen graduated in 1962 and married Bob on June 16, 1962, after which they joined the Peace Corps. She trained in Puerto Rico and was sent to Cumena, Venezuela, where she taught English at La Univeridad de Oriente, and then taught swimming to local children at a community center. After two years in Venezuela, she was accepted to the clinical psychology program at the University of Nebraska, where she completed her Ph. D. in 1971. While she was in graduate school, she bore two children, Lynda and David. Gretchen moved to Adrian, MI in 1973 when Bob got a job teaching at Adrian College, and she opened her private practice as a clinical psychologist. Gretchen practiced psychology in Adrian, focusing on children and family issues, often writing reports or testifying in court as an expert witness. In 1981, Bob joined her in the practice, and they practiced together until their retirement in 2011. Gretchen was a bright, curious, energetic woman who was interested in all sorts of things. She enjoyed traveling internationally and visiting relatives on the east coast. She was certified as a PADI scuba divemaster along with Bob. She enjoyed knitting and made afghans for most of the family, and took hundreds of pictures and videos which she turned into compilations for her grandchildren. She loved camping and sailing her sailboat, the Wayward Wind, in the Florida Keys and in the Great Lakes. She was always interested in health and nutrition, and cooked healthy food for the family all her life. After retirement, Gretchen's lifelong interest in fitness blossomed, and at the time of her death she had been running 18 miles a week, doing aquacise and cardio-drumming classes, as well as yoga. She participated regularly in races in the local running community, regularly placing first in her age category of 70+ in 5K and 10K races. Gretchen was very active in supporting her grandchildren, and spent much of her time on weekends attending 4-H and college horse shows, where she cheered on her grandsons as they rode competitively at a high level. Gretchen is survived by her husband, Bob Warwick, her daughter Lynda Warwick and her wife Jennifer Stiles, her son David Warwick, David's wife Brenda Warwick, and her grandsons Jacob Warwick, Jacob's wife Che Chan, AJ Warwick, Robert F. Warwick and Christopher Warwick. She is also survived by her sister, Lafon Zimmermann of Coram, NY, and her cousins. She will be dearly missed by her family and by her beloved running partners, with whom she had decades of friendship. Gretchen was deeply interested in medical science and achieved a high level of comprehension in the areas she studied. Her wishes were that her body be donated to the Anatomical Gift program at the University of Michigan, so that she could participate in training the next generation of physicians. Gretchen's running community may hold a race in her memory at a time to be decided later. Donations in her honor may be made to Hospice of Lenawee. Hal Lee Kaser, age 76 of Sand Creek, Michigan passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the Hospice of Lenawee inAdrian, Michigan after an extended illness. Hal was born December 11, 1946, to Howard Orley and Florence L. (Gentz) Kaser. Hal was the oldest of 8 children. He had 3brothers, Gary, Brad and Keith and 4 sisters Brenda Witt, Colleen Kaser, Kim (Robert) Beverly and Candy (Mike) Weeber. Hal hadmany loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents as well as brothers Gary and Brad. On June 17, 1977. Hal married the love of his life, Mary Lou Rohrer-Benschoter. They had 46 years together enjoying family,gardening, cooking, fishing from their boat, the "Beerwolf", University of Michigan football and working with his wife running Louand Hal's Weston Bar. Hal served in the Army in Vietnam and worked for Stauffer Chemical and then the State of Michigan Prison system at Gus HarrisonPrison in Adrian. Hal had 2 children, Christopher (Dawn) Kaser of South Carolina and Sherrie Kaser of Florida, 2 stepchildren,Ronald (Glenn) Benschoter of Waterford, VA and Cheryl (Bill) White of Hudson, MI, 8 grandchildren Sara Francis and John LukeKaser of South Carolina, Kenneth Kaser and Brandon (Whitney) Kaser of Phenix City, Alabama, Haley (Nate) Lambright, William(Nicole) White, Alley (Tanner) Livingston, Lydia Jessee. ADRIAN-Eleanore M. Becker, age 88, of Adrian, died Saturday morning, December 2, 2023, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. She was born on May 22, 1935, in Wayne, MI to George and Emma (Doletzky) Petrowsky. She lived her early years in that area and graduated from Detroit Lutheran High School in 1953. In 1956 she received a teaching certificate from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN. Her first teaching position was at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Appleton, WI. She came to Adrian in 1958 as the Primary Grades teacher at St. Stephen Lutheran School. On June 18, 1961, she married Max Becker and together they raised five children, two of them being her birth children. In 1968 she returned to teaching as the kindergarten teacher at St. Stephen, a position she enjoyed for 14 years. During this time, she earned a B. A. at Adrian College and M. A. at Siena Heights College. In retirement she became the school Librarian. In addition to being a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church and teaching at St. Stephen School, Eleanore enjoyed singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday School, and being involved in church Ladies Society and the Altar Care Committee. Eleanore is survived by two sons and their wives, James (Rachel) Becker, of Adrian, and David (Kristen) Becker of DeKalb, IL; three daughters and their husbands, Mary (John) Drahuschak of Adrian, Rebecca (Dan) Borck of Clayton, MI and Sharon Boman of Midland, MI; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren with whom she spent many happy hours; a brother, Harold Petrowsky of Wayne, MI; four sisters, Lois Gartner of Livonia, MI, Elaine Henning of New Ulm, MN, Rita Alexander of St. Clair Shores, MI, and Karen Guyor, of Westland, MI; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband, Max, she was preceded in death by her parents, and a precious young grandchild, Jaret Borck. Funeral services will be held on December 6, 2023, at 11am at St. Stephen Lutheran Church with Pastor Brian Keller, officiating. Burial will be in the Lenawee County Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh.
