Pleasant Lake – DeWayne L. Esselburn, 86, died Tuesday February 27, 2024 at Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn. He was born in Corunna, IN on December 19, 1937 to Jay and Margaret (Holman) Esselburn. DeWayne was a US Army veteran serving from 1954 to 1961 then he served in the Army Reserve thru 1963. He worked for 30 years as a diesel mechanic for Frudhauf Trucking retiring in 1997. He then was self-employed for 15 years with JD Construction. He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Waterloo. He was also a member of the Orland American Legion. DeWayne married Ginette R Naud on February 23, 1957 in Barzan, France and she survives. Last Friday they celebrated 67 years of marriage. He is also survived by a daughter and a son, Linda Fraley of Hamilton, Indiana, and Larry (Shirley) Esselburn of Angola; 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren with another due in August, 5 great great grandchildren with another due in June: sister, Sue Sattison of Garrett, sister-in-law, Pat Esselburn of Paluski, TN and 3 exchange daughters, Klao of thailand, Connie of France and Anna of Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Phillipe Esselburn, a great granddaughter and brother-in-law, Don Sattison Services will be 11 AM Thursday March 7, 2024 at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street, Waterloo, IN with burial to follow in St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery, Waterloo. Stanley Edwin Bremer, 83, of Auburn, Indiana, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024, surrounded by his daughters. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Walter and Marguerite Bremer on August 17, 1940. He grew up in the Woodburn area. Stan graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School Class of 1958, and then graduated from GE Apprentice School. He worked as a tool and die maker for several companies in the Fort Wayne area, retiring in 2004. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn. He married Anita Cook on April 22, 1961. She passed away on September 20, 2023. They were married for 62 years. He is survived by his daughters, Carma Johnson, of Auburn, Julie Bremer, of Auburn and Susanne (Glenn) Wilber, of South Carolina; sister, Lois Cole, of Avon, Ohio; three brothers, William Bremer, of Woodburn, Indiana, John (Pam) Bremer, of North Carolina, and Dave (Terri) Bremer, of Cincinnati, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and sisters, Shirley Klenke and Jane Farver. Barbara was a graduate of Adams High School in South Bend and worked for 36 years at Raco before retiring in 1995. She was a hard worker and a loving mother and grandmother. James Paul “Jim” Martin, 61, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024, at his home in Auburn. He was born April 6, 1962, in Royal Oak, Michigan, to Donald T. Martin Sr. and Jean E. (Coulter) Martin. Jim was a Christian and was raised attending the Lutheran church. He was a 1980 graduate of DeKalb High School and later graduated from IPFW in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in business. Jim was very passionate about his work in hardware. He worked at Do It Best for over 30 years working as manager in the purchasing department for majority of his tenure. He also worked for several years at a local Menard’s. Jim was very proud of the relationships that he was able to develop and remained close to many of his former colleagues. Jim was also passionate about his family. He was an avid skier and enjoyed the many ski trips he was able to take with his family. He also enjoyed playing numerous sports with his children and often served as a coach. More recently, Jim enjoyed golfing with his friends and family. He was able to take his skills from work home, fixing many things around his house and helping out his friends and family. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Josh and Audrey Martin of Carmel, and Zach Martin of Mishawaka; two grandchildren, Evelynn Martin and Cora Martin; five siblings and their spouses, Susan Becker of West Palm Beach, Florida, Julie and Tim McGee of Troy, Michigan, Bea and Augie Imm of Berkley, Michigan, Ken and Kellen Martin of Novi, Michigan, Joan and Rick Wilson of Loveland, Colorado; sister-in-law, Paula Martin of West Bloomfield, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Donald T. Martin Jr., and Douglas W. Martin. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Craig officiating. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. Evana Marie Keener, 84, of Butler, Indiana, passed away Friday, February 23, 2024, at Parkview DeKalb Hospital, Auburn, Indiana. Evana was born May 31, 1939, in Auburn, daughter of the late Lawrence J. and Roberta J. (Charleswood) Lee. She graduated from high school in 1957, and married Jerry L. Keener on February 1, 1957, in Whitley County, Indiana, who preceded her in death on July 8, 2009. Evana took some college courses in electronics and television repair, and graduated from cosmetology school, going on to work as a beautician. For most of her career, Evana was a homemaker, but also spent some time working at the Messenger Corporation and Shinabery’s Store. She was a member of the former Newville United Methodist Church. Evana loved Tom Sellek and watching Gunsmoke, reading mystery books, playing cards, and working on her family genealogy. She also loved coffee, Symphony chocolate bars, Dari Delite, and the Pioneer Woman cookbooks. Evana will be remembered as being a good helper to everyone, including strangers; for having a great sense of humor; and for being a good cook and talented baker, with potatoes and rivels, peanut clusters, pecan pie, and her grandma Charleswood’s chocolate cookies being some of her specialties. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren - every year, Evana would plan a “special day” specific to each grandchild, taking them shopping and out to eat. She was also great at always remembering people’s birthdays and anniversaries. She was intentional with her time, and loved being with her family. She is survived by her three children, Debbie (Danny) Hammer of St. Louis, Missouri, Vicki (Mark) Eckert of McCordsville, Indiana, and Rick Keener of Butler, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Nathaniel (Courtney) Hammer, Matthew (Emily) Hammer, Shea (Daryl) Emowrey, Brett Eckert, Molly Eckert, Ashley (Zac) Smith, Heath (Emily) Keener, Colton Keener, and Morgan (Beau) Fulk; 11 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Danny Boren and Clara (Arkie) Haiflich, both of Auburn; and close friends, Kim Scott, Darlene Myer, and Tona Shinabery. Evana was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents who raised her, Burdett and Faye Charleswood; by her parents; by her husband, Jerry; and by a sister, Judy Freeman. In honoring Evana’s wishes, no services will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526. Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Auburn. She enjoyed reading books, working on jigsaw puzzles and baking treats for her family and friends. She was born on February 24, 1928 in Fort Wayne to Everett K. and Bertha E. (Aaron) Sherwood. Delores married Harry E. Hammer on February 14, 1948 in Waynedale. He preceded her in death on November 20, 2017. She loved hunting for and collecting antiques so it was a natural fit for her to be an antique dealer for over 40 years, owning several of her own antique stores along the way. She was also very artistic, attending art school after high school. She enjoyed and was very good at drawing freehand and painting pictures. Delores love dogs, owning many over the years with Tippy and Molly being the most recent. She loved God, and she had a very strong faith that she passed down to her children. She was a very loving and helpful person who always seemed to put others first. She will be greatly missed! Daughter; Karen Kunnemann of Broomfield, Colorado.
