Marcella "Marcy" Mays

Marcella "Marcy" Mays, age 88, of Massillon, Ohio passed away at home on Sunday, February 18, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Marcy was born July 14, 1935 in Huntington, WV to the late Norma and Abel Reed. She was part of a very large and beautiful family. Marcy was one of two sets of twins. There were a total of 15 children (8 boys and 7 girls). Her surviving younger sister, Joan (Dick) McCoy of Orlando, Florida (also a twin). Marcy lost the love of her life, Kenneth Mays on May 6, 1982. May they now be reunited and rejoice together again in heaven. Kenneth was her rock and he has been truly missed by the entire family. Survived by her children, Melody (the late Rick) Dalman, Sue (Larry) Mays Parks, Steve (Janice) Mays, Angela (Tony) Brunner. She has 4 grandchildren, Melissa Presutti, Andrea and Jarrod Blanc, Matthew and Emily Mays, and Mark Dalman; and 7 great-grandchildren, Nicholas Presutti, Jackson Blanc, Maxwell Blanc, Evelyn Mays, Anderson Mays, Mackensie Dalman, and Isabella Dalman. Marcella will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved the beach, especially Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Pompano Beach, Florida. Her fondest memories were made on these family vacations. She enjoyed thrift shopping and finding little treasures. She especially loved the Red Birds (cardinals) and loved to feed the birds. She really enjoyed playing Bingo, the lottery, and enjoyed going to the casinos to play video poker. Special thanks to Melissa Bergmann, Hospice Nurse, and Fay Parks for their loving care of Marcy. Services will be private for the immediate family.

She worked Republic Steel as an account where she met her husband, Joseph. Joe worked for Brewster Cheese for 20 years. He was previously a member of Teamsters Local 92, and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish/St. Mary's. Joe's life was devoted to his family and grandchildren. Joe enjoyed fishing, golfing, and bowling. He was a die hard Pittsburgh Steelers and Ohio State Buckeye fan; and a proud former Massillon Tiger. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Debbie (Dodson) Peters; sons, Joseph Jr. (Amber) Peters and Benjamin (Jessica) Peters; daughter Lyndsay (Harrison) McCreery; a bonus son, Jeff Kennedy and family; grandchildren, Rhys, Isabella, Ayden, Jordan, Kanndralyn, Liliana, Wyatt, Braxton, and Krislyn; brothers, Kenneth (Myra) Peters and Walter Peters; and sister, Adele Guilliams. He was an Army veteran serving in Korea. Bob retired in 1991 and had worked at Grisom-Russell, Babcock-Wilcox, and Seifert Technologies. William (Bill) Edward Cunion, a man of honor, dedication, and unwavering love, passed away on February 12, 2024, at the age of 87. Born in Zanesville, Ohio, Bill spent much of his youth in Massillon, Ohio, where he worked at a local movie theater, sparking a lifelong appreciation for classic films. After graduating from Washington High School in 1954, he embarked on a journey of service to his country, joining the military as a proud Marine for three years and later serving as an airman for eight. During his military service, Bill welcomed two daughters into the world. Upon leaving the military, Bill married the love of his life, Karen, and returned to Massillon. He pursued higher education at Kent State University, earning a degree in English. This marked the beginning of his dedicated career as an English teacher at Timken High School, where he shared his knowledge and inspired countless students until his retirement in 1995. Upon retirement, Bill indulged in his greatest passions: spending quality time with his ever-growing family and enjoying rounds of golf. His impact as a teacher, father, and mentor will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Throughout his life, Bill continued to expand his family, welcoming both biological and numerous foster children. His commitment to family was evident in the love and support he provided to his wife, Karen, for an enduring 59 years. Bill's legacy lives on through Karen and his children: Reyna (Tim) Hardecki, Aurora (Dan) Northrup, James (Toylene) Farrabee, William (Jesse) Cunion II, and Robyn (Scott) Lori. Bill found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to Megan (John) McKenzie; Garrett Northrup, Megan Farrabee; Will, Jes, and Genevieve Cunion; and Samuel and Zak Lori. His great-granddaughter, Leia Nonno, brought an additional layer of happiness to his later years. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Beulah Cunion, his brother, Charles Barner, and his daughter-in-law, Kathryn Cunion. A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Monday, February 19, at Heitger Funeral Home - Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Ave NW at 12:00 pm with Rev. Cecil E. Thayer officiating. North Lawrence -- Richard "Dick" Horst, age 97, of North Lawrence, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Amherst Meadows in Massillon, following a period of declining health.Dick was born on November 29, 1926, in North Lawrence, to the late Ralph and Florence (Huff) Horst, graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1944, and served as a Seaman Second Class in the United States Navy during World War II.  He married Helen M. Wright on July 1, 1949, in Salem, Ohio, and she survives. They would have been married 75 years this July.He worked as a Supervisor for Ohio Bell Telephone for 38 years, retiring in 1984 and was a member of the Ohio Bell Pioneers.Dick was a member of the Tuslaw Local Schools Board of Education for 28 years and was a past president of the board; a member of the R.G. Drage Career Center Board of Education, where he was the first Board President and was instrumental in the financing and construction of the school. Dick was a charter member and a past President of the Tuslaw Lions Club; a member of the Tuslaw Booster Club, where for many years he was the "phone man" for the coach's phones in the press box. He enjoyed gospel music, and the family cabin at Piedmont Lake in Belmont/Harrison counties. His favorite hobby was attending activities of all generations of his grandchildren.  He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by daughter, Kathy (Nevin) Nussbaum of Orrville; son, Bob (Dawn) Horst of North Lawrence; four grandchildren, Jenny (Cory) Wilson of Davison, MI, Brent (Sarah) Nussbaum of Falls Church, VA, Cody (Elise) Horst of North Ridgeville and Cara Horst of Cincinnati, seven great grandchildren, Alexis, Ty, Avery and Harper Wilson, Norah and Maddie Nussbaum, Elena Baird, and soon to be Hudson Horst, brother-in-law, Bob (Marge) Boals of Magnolia and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by brothers, Dr. R. She was born on February 13, 1948 to the late Floyd and Dorothy DeHoff.In 1968, Nancy married Rob, the love of her life. Their devotion and love for each other was an inspiration to their children. Nancy and Rob spent as much time together as possible, and enjoyed each other's company more than anyone.Nancy was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church, she read her bible every day and was a devout Christian who loved Jesus. She enjoyed baking, tending to her garden and house plants, reading and spending time with her family. Nancy had a love for animals, especially Lady, her cat. Above all, her grandchildren meant the world to her. She will be remembered for her kindness and ability to deeply care for others. She would do anything for anyone.
