Philip Mumford Obituary

Philip "Birdie" Sherman Mumford III, 64, of Bethlehem, NC passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 at his home. Born April 22, 1959 in Hartford, CT, he was the son of Philip Sherman Mumford Jr and Priscilla Muller Mumford of Hickory, NC. Phil was a member of Corinth Reformed Church in Hickory, NC for 17 years where he taught the high school Sunday school class. He was a Fund Accounting Analyst with Principal Financial Group. Phil loved to hike and play golf. He was a Nebraska Huskers and Philadelphia Phillies fan. In addition to his parents, Phil was survived by his wife, Tammy Jo Nickerson Mumford of the home; his daughter, Cassie Leigh Lowry and husband Josh of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Elizabeth Mumford and Carolyn Clark, both of Glastonbury, CT; two nieces and one nephew. A celebration of Phil's life will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 20, 2023 in the Bost Hall at Corinth Reformed Church with the Rev. Dr. Bob Thompson officiating. The family will greet friends following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Corinth Reformed Church designated to the "HOPE Garden". Bass-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Mumford family.
